christian living (1409)

It's not always easy to stay motivated when you're trying to achieve a goal. Some experts say that the "goal" itself should be enough to inspire unwavering diligence toward achieving it...and there is an element of truth in that. However, the reality is that the discomforts of striving for a particular goal can sometimes cause us to lose focus.

Practice Non-Random Acts of Kindness
“Kindness is a language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see” (Anonymous).

You have probably seen the bumper sticker that reads, “Practice Random Acts of Kindness.” The point is that acts of kindness will neutralize random acts of violence. Biblically, acts of kindness are not meant to be random, but via the Holy Spirit, they are to be a way of life (Galatians 5:22).

“Kindness” has been defined as “benevolence in action.” It is basic

I remember gym class; I don’t remember it fondly.

I’ve never been athletic or very interested in sports. Exercise in elementary school was okay but I dreaded physical education classes in junior and senior high school. New York State believed it was part of a student’s full rounded education. Unwillingly, I went to the locker room to change into my gym uniform and then into the gymnasium. It was not enjoyable. Yet, I did exercise.

Decades later, I began to see the need to stay physically fit

Have you ever taken a long, hard look at your life and felt depressed when you thought about things that it lacked? Chances are, you have. No one has a perfect life. Jesus himself affirmed his disciples when they expressed a desire to be first. He told them exactly how to do it. Shouldn't we conclude that even Jesus understood that some people simply get more excited when they have the ability to compete against other people? If we can introduce that dynamic back into faith somehow, won't we reach a lot of men who feel that Christianity is a good story but is lacking something?

I want to begin with Psalm 32:2. It said…

How blessed is a person whose guilt the Lord does not take into account,

And in whose spirit there is no deceit!

The word spirit here is the Hebrew word ruach, which means spirit, breath demon, spirit, spirit of God.

It also means mental disposition, and here we can accurately translate an attitude. Mental disposition is attitude. The word attitude is not found in the Bible, but we understand this concept. Let me read it to you that way. Blessed is t

Be Healthier With Veggies

The new food guidelines issued by the United States government recommend that all Americans eat between five and nine servings of fruits and vegetables each and every day. When you first hear that number, it may seem like a lot, but it is actually much easier than you think to fit that many servings of fruits and vegetables into your daily diet. For one thing, the shelves of the grocery stores are fairly bursting with fresh fruits and vegetables. In addition, vegetables and fruits are some of th

I Stay Motivated

I am enthusiastic and inspired.

I remember my purpose. I focus on the reasons behind my actions. My job is more satisfying when I think about taking care of my family or using my skills to help others. I enjoy working out more when I see results like weight loss and fewer sick days.

I set specific goals and write them down. Clear objectives help me to develop effective strategies and evaluate my progress.

I give myself a pep talk. I celebrate my strengths. I repeat positive affirmations

We face battles every day of our lives. As believers, the enemy is always out to get us. He is out to make our lives not worthwhile, but the Bible says that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but spiritual. So that means that we're not fighting a physical man or woman we're not carrying guns or bombs to fight a physical war. Now the moment you said yes to the gospel, you became an enemy to the devil. The enemy works through men to cause you to stumble or fall.

The reason why it seems li

Pastor Rich Villodas weighed in on the dangers of “celebrity-ism” that has infiltrated many churches and highlighted the role every Christian has to play in combating the ideology he warned is “incompatible with the Christian faith.”

“Generally speaking, celebrity and Christianity are not necessarily contradictions in terms because notions of celebrity are often projected onto people,” Villodas, the Brooklyn-born lead pastor of New Life Fellowship, said at the Q 202

I cry aloud to the Lord; I plead aloud to the Lord for mercy. I pour out my complaint before Him; I reveal my trouble to Him. Although my spirit is weak within me, You know my way. Along this path I travel they have hidden a trap for me. Look to the right and see: no one stands up for me; there is no refuge for me; no one cares about me. I cry to You, Lord; I say, “You are my shelter, my portion in the land of the living.” Listen to my cry, for I am very weak. Most of us are fond of at least one product that has the effect of a stimulant and that eventually becomes an addiction. These products include exercise stimulant drinks (they come in cans and look like cola), fizzy aerated drinks, tobacco, betel nut, betel leaf, strong coffee, strong tea, ma huang (an ephedrine-like compound consumed in china), and alcohol.

Before I tell you why we shouldn’t consume these products, I’d like to deal with the question of why we do consume them in the first plac

3 Know that the Lord is God.

   It is he who made us, and we are his;

we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
