I’d like to honor the single Christian woman who is working late tonight instead of being taken out to dinner. (But, please keep reading even if that’s not you. If you’ve ever been disappointed with God, I hope this encourages you, too.)

The longing for family

A 38-year-old, single Christian friend of mine told me recently that she got a promotion. The only problem, she said, is that she’d rather be a stay-at-home mom, “packing school lunches.”

This isn’t someone who’s simply dreaming about th

SPIRITUAL PRINCIPLES OF SUCCESSFUL WOMEN

1. In everything you do, always put GOD first.

Many of us have a habit of putting other people first or putting ourselves before anyone or anything. This is what we are taught to do, but it is incorrect and it is damaging. Eloihim must always come first. Everything you do, whether at home or the workplace you must do for him. He comes before your spouse, your boss, your children, your customers. If you put GOD first, all

The Black woman in America is in bondage and we allow Satan to keep her that way. African Americans will not rise until the Black woman is brought back to life. After the Civil War the chains came off but today we still are not free. No our wrist and ankles are not chained but our minds are. LAS VEGAS -- Becky Hammon made history when she became the first female head coach in NBA summer league. Leading the San Antonio Spurs to the Las Vegas Summer League championship just made the experience that much sweeter.

Hammon coached the Spurs to a 93-90 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Monday in the title game.

"It was a grind," Hammon said. "They've been together for 17 days. They really started to jell the last two or three games. They listened, and they played really hard for me. I

Articles about privileged white women trying to “have it all” ignore the fact that women of color have been balancing life and work out of necessity.

The only thing I have grown to hate more than the term “having it all” is the debate about whether or not women can have it all. To be clear, I have been roped into this debate myself on more than one occasion, but I usually find myself doing what I just did: critiquing how pointless it is in some ways.

But in a powerful new essay for the Natio

A Guide to True Beauty

4520-butterfly.220w.tn.jpg

The Proverbs 31:10-31 woman is a model of a woman who lives a godly life. It is practical advice given by a mother to her single son about what to look for in a future wife. Therefore, it is advice for single women as well as married women. I was single for over twenty years of my adult life. Now I am married so I might be able to offer insights for both single and married women.

Most of all, this idyllic icon is a woman who decides to learn and grow in all the areas of her life. She protects

This PowerPoint slide shows some of the unauthorized hairstyles for women. (Army)

Thousands of soldiers and others have signed a White House petition calling for the president to order the Army to reconsider just-released appearance and grooming regulations they contend are “racially biased” against black women.

The update to Army Regulation 670-1 was published Monday , and among the rules are clarifications for Army-appropriate hairstyles. For example, the Army does not allow twists or multi

portfolio5.jpgThe funny thing about stereotypes is that they often have some measure of truth to them. As black women in America, no group has been more stereotyped, or misunderstood, or more devalued than us. As we begin the countdown on the year that was 2013, it is time for us as black women to look toward our future in the New Year that is 2014.
As someone who has traveled the country for the last two years, talking and engaging almost exclusively with black women in corporate America, in universities,

Dating expert, advice columnist and author Deborrah Cooper blasts traditional Black churches and charges that they are the root cause for the high numbers of single Black women in the U.S.

With all the media coverage (CNN, Nightline, NY Times, ABC) of the “plight” of the single black woman, and the blaming of Black women for being single, this author felt it past time to examine other reasons which could be important contributors to this sad statistic:

Black women have an inordinate amount of

I imagine that the editors of the paper think that men will see the ad and show it to their wives and girlfriends so they might consider reshaping their image. Or, perhaps the women who browse through the section will see it and ponder how they might develop a better image – physically and emotionally.

The same ad appears in the current issue of Today’s Charlotte Woman magazine.
