In John 15:1-8 stands the well-known passage in which Jesus portrays Himself as the vine and His followers as the branches of that vine. Strictly speaking, He must mean that He is the trunk of the vine and we are the branches. He surely doesn't mean that He is the whole vine, both trunk and branches, and that we are also the branches, since that would hardly make sense of verse 2, where we are told that God prunes the branches that bear fruit. Pruning here symbolises God's discipli

The Minnesota Vikings will open their optional team practices this week without Adrian Peterson.

The star running back has told coach Mike Zimmer that he will not attend the three days of team work that begin Tuesday, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Sunday night. The person requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly on the issue.

Peterson did attend the optional workouts last summer while Zimmer was orienting himself in his first

Motherhood is not easy, and at times it feels like the to-do-list just keeps on getting longer every single day making it difficult for us to experience true joy and peace that can be found in God, our children as well as the Gospel. "A mother's work is unending", the old proverb goes. There is much joy to found in the process of raising our kids, but it is so often the case that this joy is laced with frustrations and exhaustion.

The importance of the faith is never lost on Chri

In this fast-paced and success-driven society, it's so easy to lose track of your faith and place it on the sidelines in favor of the more "pressing" matters in life. However, you soon realize that living life as if you're on auto-pilot and not taking the time to strengthen your spirituality can be damaging not only to your spirit but also on your health.

If you feel like something's not right or something's missing in your life, it may be time to stop the current pace of

Ozay Moore shares, "From the time of the Trayvon Martin case, the amount of conversations I've had with folks who do not identify with the black experience in America (but) have come to settle on disturbing conclusions about race and class has been unsettling. Have you ever been in a situation, where you have been praying about certain circumstances, and your faith levels are high. However when you don't see the manifestation of that situation you start to doubt? Then you hear a Word or read a passage of scripture and miraculously your faith levels are high again, however you're still waiting for the manifestation and now you're starting to doubt again.

I have done this on many occasions. I call this yo-yo faith, because one minut

In Tuskegee speech, she was talking about ‘double duty’ blacks have to our country and race.

I hope people who attended Tuskegee University’s commencement on Saturday got Michelle Obama’s message. I hope they paid more attention to what she said than how some news media organizations portrayed the first lady’s speech to graduates of the historically black Alabama school.

I don’t want them to think People magazine got it right when it ran as the headline her dismay over being pictured as a f

Stephen Curry with Mark Jackson

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has become a popular name when it comes to the MVP debate, but to Curry’s surprise his former coach isn’t part of that chorus.

ESPN analyst and former Warriors coach Mark Jackson said Wednesday on the “Dan Patrick Show” that while Curry, Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder and LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers, are all worthy candidates, he’d give his MVP vote to James Harden of the Houston Rockets.

Lies_Hip_Hop_Told_Me.jpg

I was 21 years old when I first heard the gospel message of who Jesus is and what Jesus has done. Prior to that, virtually everything I knew about religion in general and Christianity in particular I learned from hip-hop culture.

Hip hop’s music, movies and books communicated diverse views on religion with some explicitly endorsing a particular religion (such as Ice Cube’s album Death Certificate), others choosing pieces from several religions (such as Common on “G.O.D.”) and others rejectin
