In the Bible, prayer is an integral part of the Old and New Testaments. In fact, the Bible's first reference to prayer is in Genesis, where the first book of the Bible says humankind called on (prayed to) the Lord. (4:26). There is some wisdom in the old adage that it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out, and remove all doubt. What this means, of course, is that keeping quiet is better than saying something foolish, and saying nothing at all is sometimes profound in its eloquence. This precept is found in Proverbs 17. There we read:

Because there is a danger, in the present move of God, to over-emphasize the Gifts of the Spirit, it is necessary to bring a balance by giving proper attention to the study of the "Fruit of the Spirit".
