Daily Devotional: Doing My Part

Who, what, where and when…

Policeman, lawyers and reporters should stick to the facts.

Christians know the importance of proclaiming the truth. A good witness backs up their testimony with God’s inspired word.

“All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NASB).”

Scripture, God's word...

The Bible says much about the love of God. Indeed, 1 John 4:8 tells us that God IS love. Jeremiah 29:11-14 is one of the best passages for realizing God’s active love and compassion toward those who devote themselves to Him.

Verse 11 contains God’s desire to have responsibility for His people’s welfare. He says, “I know the plans I have for you…, to give you a future and a hope.” God’s desire is not that His children have a boring, hum-drum life with

Throughout 2006 I decided to do a study on Proverbs 31 via a blog. It was partly an exercise to practice using the software and I'd always wanted to explore this book in greater details so combining the two seemed an ideal way to do it. I had no idea that the blog would end up being a very popular one which still draws in thousands of visitors every month a year after I began writing it.

During the course of doing this study it became clear to me that the Proverbs 31 Woman

Luke 15:11-24 contains perhaps one of the most well-known parables in the Bible, the prodigal son. In it, a young man asks his father for his inheritance, so that he may be the master of his own destiny, so to speak. Soon, however, he runs into serious problems, and learns that his own desires led him to a dark place. We can learn much from this story.

First, we learn that security for the future is found only in God. Just a few verses into the st

I am so excited about what I’ll be discussing with you all today. It is probably a topic you have heard a couple of times but it’s not a topic you should not listen to consistently. Why you say? Because you are in the world and as long as you are in the world, the devil always throws darts at you in different ways, through different methods all to ensure that you lose focus and begin to doubt God. Can you guess the topic by now? Never give up on trusting God. The lyrics of a beautiful song says

Philippians 4:11 “For I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”

The young lady had come from Arizona to South Carolina to begin her freshman year in college.  As she gave her introductory testimony in class, she quoted, “I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”  I doubt if the apostle Paul was thinking about Arizona or South Carolina when he wrote this verse, but her testimony did generate many laughs.

What can we do for our pastors?

First and foremost, they need our prayers.

… “and pray in my behalf, that speech may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel (Ephesians 6:19 NASB).”

Yes, they need prayers and more. Most pastors would hesitate to request personal comforts; yet, we should try to make their study areas comfortable. Pastor’s offices are frequently used in Bible study, sermon prepa

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Do you toss and turn all night?

Maybe you’re blessed with a good night’s sleep.

Do others tip-toe through the house to avoid awakening you?

Mothers of newborn babies look forward to the day when their children will sleep through the night and during naps. That will allow mom to catch up on her own sleep and housework during nap time.

Aren’t you glad that God never sleeps? His prayer room is always open.

In faith, we can rest easy. He’s awake and watching over us.

A life transformed…

Saul’s life was completely changed by the Lord, Jesus Christ.

He would never be the same.

“Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?’

And he said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’

Then the Lord said, ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’

So he, trembling and astonished, said, ‘Lord, what do You want me to do?’

Then the Lord said to him, ‘Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must

"We know that all things work together for good, for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose?" Romans 8:28 NRSV

Believers, you, I, and we are personally and intricately loved by God whose holiness grasps hold of each human being. It is the pursuit of divine love who is orchestrating all events, all circumstances, and all challenges, inviting each one nearer to his passion.

The ‘things’ that occur can be ones allowed, consequences from poor choices, an

II Chronicles 7:14 “If my people which are called by my name, shall HUMBLE THEMSELVES, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Humility is not a common character trait today.  In fact, the very opposite seems to be encouraged.  We are urged to build our self-esteem and help others build self-esteem.  All people have worth or self-esteem simply because God loves us a

One day, as I was thinking of some different areas that frustrated me about my life, I came to a startling conclusion. Many of my so-called problems were simply a lack of self-discipline. I made a little list of improvements to incorporate. Maybe something here will help you, too. These may seem
oversimplified, but sometimes I need to get back to simplicity!

1. Regular Bedtime and Wake-up time.

When I work during the week, I am forced to comply with this. But as a te

Life is full of opportunity, and in between its chance to move forward lies many difficulties. For instance, if we desire to move forward, life often presents us with challenges of progressing with situations that can be challenging. For example, if we want to live or vacation on a beautiful island or in a vibrant, exciting city but are unemployed or have substantial debt going to those places may seem impossible.

In the instance that our finances prevent us from reaching

No matter what happens, giving up should be the last thing on your mind. Life can throw all it can on you but you must choose not to give up! You should choose to hope. Hope for the best. What are you passing through now? Are you downcast? Are you helpless? Are you afraid and you think that God has forgotten you? Do not be dismayed because the Lord will never leave you nor forsake you. He says that no matter what happens in life, he will be right there by your side, just like a Father. He will k

Is it turkey dressing or stuffing?

Who’s to say? There is a difference. Not all cooks stuff the bird.

Thanksgiving dressing (or stuffing) serve as spiritual reminders.

Luxurious dressing is provided by the Father.

My soul will be joyful in my God;
For He has clothed me with garments of salvation,
He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness,
