Apple Inc. unveiled its latest iPhones as the company seeks to reignite sales of the smartphone that has propelled much of its extraordinary growth over the past decade.

The new phones, called iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, removes the traditional headphone jack but includes a force-sensitive “home” button, a new two-camera system and a sharper screen, among other different features. Questions, though, remain whether the changes will be enough to reignite excitement about the iPhone.

When Chinese tech giant ZTE started selling phones in the United States, it pounced on a niche market and stuck stubbornly to it: obscenely cheap phones running Google’s Android operating system. Its first strong budget phone, the ZMax, debuted for $200; and its successor, the ZMax 2, hit the street for $50 less ($150). That strategy proved to be a good one: Last year, ZTE sold more than 15 million handsets. Now it’s back with the $100 ZMax Pro.

BlackBerry is back with another phone. But does anyone care?

The struggling phone maker on Tuesday unveiled the BlackBerry DTEK 50, its second phone powered by Google’s Android mobile software. Unlike the company’s first Android phone, the Priv, the DTEK 50 does away with BlackBerry’s signature physical keyboard and opts for a full screen. It will sell for $299.

BlackBerry hopes the DTEK 50 addresses one of the key complaints about the Priv: its lofty $700 price tag, which put it above highe

Metal designs, thinner profiles and pleasant aesthetics have surged in the smartphone market, but they come with a sacrifice some of you may not be willing to live with. Removable batteries have become a dying breed.

Even if battery life is generally improving, being able to carry extra batteries and swapping them to your liking is an advantage that is hard to give up. In an industry in which all the best phones tend to sport a unibody design, where are the handsets that still offer the versat

Alphabet officially vaulted Apple to become the most valuable company in the U.S. in Tuesday trading , rousting the iPhone maker from the perch it held for more than four years.

Alphabet shares (GOOGL) jumped 6% after Google’s parent reported estimate-topping fourth-quarter results after Monday’s close. Its combined share classes were then worth $554 billion, surpassing Apple (AAPL), which had a value of about $534 billion and whose shares were down slightly after hours.

Gone are HTC’s days of being “quietly brilliant,” and innovating on the sidelines. The humble Taiwanese company is back and it’s bristling that no one took notice of its early achievements. That seamless all-metal iPhone you love so much? HTC made it first with the One M7. Those cool Live Photos Apple yammered about in September? HTC’s Zoe had them years ago.

So, whatever you do, don’t tell HTC that its One A9 looks like an iPhone. Yo

Let’s start off by saying one thing, Youtube, and Google, are businesses. A business’ goal is strictly to make money, that is the only goal, anything else is merely a solution to a problem that rises from the question of “How do we make more money?”

There is no real other question in the world of business that matters, only solutions, and this brings up the subscription feature that YouTube is looking to launch.

The subscription feature is expected to cost in the range of $10 and cover two se

Why the Apple Watch is flopping

ENGADGET ENGADGET

The Apple Watch, despite years of hype before it was even announced, appears to be flopping after all.

It wasn't a good sign when Apple announced shortly before the Watch release that they weren't going to be breaking out sales numbers. Now, a new report from third-party analysts Slice Intelligence not only show that Apple Watch sales are down 90% since launch—a big deal, since it implies early adopters aren't regaling more cautious buyers with glowing word-of-mouth—but also tha

android-vs-apple-one-sword.jpg?resize=660%2C330Apple's iPhone is the world's most famous smartphone, but there are many reasons Android takes 57 percent of the U.S. market and as much as 80 percent in other countries. Apple provides a completely catered, top-down experience in which it dictates exactly which apps you can run and which features your phone can have. But Android takes off the training wheels and lets consumers have a swath of hardware and software to choose from, along with access to key technologies, such as NFC pairing and h
