Do we have thankful hearts?

7936049855?profile=original

Self examination is an important part of the Christian life. The believer, being a child of God, should readily seek to know if our conduct, our conversation, our witness, our attitude, conform to the life of faith we are attempting to live. Keeping short accounts with Our Lord means contemplating the choices we make, the values we hold, the concerns and thoughts which hold us captive.
In the matter of thankfulness, we are all too often guilty of neglecting to discern the personal way in which Our Lord works in our lives. Do we first of all thank Our Savior for saving us? Do we understand that He paid the cost we miserable sinners could not pay? Do we appreciate the food on our tables, the roof over our heads? Do we appreciate the kindness of family and friends in our lives? What about the casual acquaintance or the helpful stranger who assisted us in a time of need? Do we thank God for those who have prayed with us and for us, who have touched our lives with genuine Christian love? Do we recognize the hand of God in these things, and the work of the Holy Spirit in nudging and leading us day by day?
The child of God needs to strive to be a humble and grateful individual, never hesitant to thank God for His daily provisions and benefits, both spiritual and physical, borne of His love, mercy, and concern for His children. To forget to give Our Lord the glory for even small things is to live carelessly, a way of living that should be foreign to the believer.
At the same time, Christians may sometimes experience suffering, perhaps a trial, a personal tragedy, a catastrophic loss or circumstances that bring us to the edge of despair. Yet, the worst of tribulations will pass, and we have the blessed assurance of Our God that He will never leave us or forsake us in this life or in the life to come. For this assurance, we must also be thankful to Him.
By a serious reading of the word of God, we are reminded by Jesus in numerous verses that our outlook, when transformed by the gospel, will give us the kind of peace and strength that words cannot describe, and as such, we have much to be thankful for as we live out our days on this earth.

Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow's very public Christian faith has been praised - and parodied. In spite of all the jokes, a new survey shows a lot of people think the Broncos quarterback "is" getting help from above.

The Poll Position website conducted a telephone survey of 756 people and found 43 percent think divine intervention is playing a role in Tebow's success.
The percentage is higher among young people age 18-29 (52 percent), Republicans (54 percent), African-Americans (60 percent), and Hispanics (81 percent).
The percentage is lower among whites (38 percent), Democrats (35 percent), and independent voters (35 percent).
Father Peter Eaton, the dean of St. John's Cathedral in Denver, says when a superstar like Tebow talks about God, people listen.
"It's a fascinating, it's a fascinating thing. It may not be the way that I would talk about it and it may not be the way you talk about it. We should welcome the conversation from wherever it comes," Eaton said.
Eaton believes God plays a role in everything, including life's wins and losses.
"There must be a balance. So what I would hope Tim Tebow does, is that Tim Tebow is equally able to praise God for his defeats, as he is to praise God for his victories," Eaton said.
For some fans, including Cody Galloway, the question remains of whether God has performed miracles at Sports Authority Field at Mile High and other places the Broncos have played.
"It's certainly fun to think about. There are some convincing things to the story like the halo over Mile High," Galloway said.

Michelle Obama has weighed in on the buzzy new book The Obamas by New York Times reporter Jodi Kantor. She isn't thrilled about the chatter it's generating about her alleged clashes with West Wing staff and dominance over the administration.

"I guess it's just more interesting to imagine this conflicted situation here," Mrs. Obama, who claimed that she hasn't read the book, said in an interview with CBS News' Gayle King. "That's been an image people have tried to paint of me since the day Barack announced, that I'm some kind of angry black woman."
The White House also pushed back on the deeply sourced book, which came out this week, calling it an "over-dramatization of old news" that relied on interviews with "people who the Obamas have not spoken to in years." But after flipping through the book, I don't think the first lady has much to be worried about -- the portrait that Jodi Kantor paints of her isn't all that scandalous. By now you've read some of the gossipy excerpts:
* Michelle Obama was unsure about uprooting her daughters to move into the White House immediately after inauguration, and considered remaining in Chicago until they'd finished the school year.
* She was initially unenthusiastic about having to show up for ceremonial events and photo ops. When White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel scheduled her for a Florida event appearance without consulting her, she attended -- but showed her irritation by doing very few midterm campaign events.
* She was angry when Democrats lost their Senate supermajority by losing Ted Kennedy's former seat to Scott Brown in the Massachusetts special election. The president voiced her displeasure about their ineffective strategy to his advisers.
* The president's advisers felt that taking on health care reform was too ambitious and encouraged him to focus on smaller, more practical legislative wins. The first lady, however, prodded him to pursue his lofty campaign pledge.

hcsp.jpgDirector George Lucas says it took 20 years to get his latest film made, "because it's an all-black movie".

Speaking on The Daily Show, Lucas said he had to self-fund Red Tails, the true story of a group of African-American pilots who fought in World War II.

He claimed major film studios would not back the movie because "there's no major white roles in it at all".
"I showed it to all of them and they said, 'No. We don't know how to market a movie like this,'" he said.
"They don't believe there's any foreign market for it, and that's 60% of their profit," he added.
Lucas co-wrote and produced Red Tails, which which was directed by Anthony Hemingway.
It features several well-known names - including Oscar-winner Cuba Gooding Jr, Terence Howard and R&B star Ne-Yo - and shows how the pilots were segregated and kept on the ground for most of the war, until they were called up to fight for their country.
The real-life airmen featured in the drama were given a Congressional Gold Medal by then-President George Bush in 2007.
'Invisible' audience
Lucas put $58 million (37.8 million) of his own money into the movie. It will be released by his company Lucasfilm, and distributed by Twentieth Century Fox.
He is putting a further $35 million (£22.8 million) towards the distribution costs, said trade paper The Hollywood Reporter.
"It's a reasonably expensive movie," Lucas told Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. "Normally black movies, say Tyler Perry movies or something, they're very low budget.
"Even then, the [Hollywood studios] won't really release his movies, it goes to one of the lower, not major distributors.
"This [film] costs more than what those movies make," Lucas added.

The people of Haiti are still working to recover from the unforgettable 7.0 earthquake that killed more than 300,000 people and left more a million homeless. It's been exactly two years for the survivors.

But the signs of that devastation are slowly disappearing from the streets. And the spirit of the Haitian people is stronger.
Thanks to organizations like Operation Blessing.
"The last two years have been just flat out. We have been working non-stop on relief projects and development projects - saving lives after the earthquake," David Darg, director of international relief for Operation Blessing, told CBN News.
"I mean we have lost count of how many lives we have saved from the doctors we've brought in," he said.
Outreach that Matters
Operation Blessing brings in medical teams from the Mayo Clinic each month, administering anti-parasite medication to people in need every day.
And, it's one of the leading organizations tackling the water crisis in the country.
"With the introduction cholera in 2010, it became a crisis," Darg explained. "Still today, Haiti is the world's largest cholera epidemic. So clean water is essential. It is probably the biggest need for the nation right now."
While water is still among the country's immediate needs, the relief organization is also focused on its future. Workers have recently built a school here in one small village.
"In a very remote village. It is one of the poorest villages that we've found in Haiti," Darg said. "And so you have the poorest country in the Western hemisphere, the poorest village in that country."
"It's just extreme poverty and need and Operation Blessing is moving beyond providing relief items," he said.

The feeling of winning is wonderful. It’s what an athlete feels when crossing the finish line or when students pass exams or when you accomplish a goal you had set.

Everyone would love the glory of winning but few would love the difficult process. Ask the athlete who wakes up early every morning to practice for hours, or the employee who works extra hours or the entrepreneur who is always on the move!

Winning is achievable. You too can be a winner in life. And its not who says you are a winner, it’s about what winning means to you. Life is not about competing with others but setting personal goals, breaking personal records and becoming the very best person you can become.

The following seven practices can tremendously increase your chances of becoming a winner in whatever you do.

Practice #1: Have A Vision
You’ll never get what you don’t see. Before you win the outside game, you have to win the inside game. Do you know where you are going? What is your goal? See yourself at the finish line of what you desire to achieve. The best vision is God-inspired. In all your ways, ask God to direct you and he will show you which way to go. [1]

Practice #2: Always Give Your Best
Whatever you do, do it well. Determine to always do an excellent job, not to please others but as unto God to whom we are all accountable. People who are good at what they do will not serve mere men, they will be invited among the great.[2] When you always give your best, the seed of greatness is in you.

Practice #3: Read Read Read
Reading allows you to access the wisdom of great minds. Someone may have gained the experience in a book over many years but you can download it into your mind in a few hours. Thirst and hunger for the knowledge that will empower you to accomplish your vision. Read books. Read magazines. Read the Bible. Keep reading. You never know where you’ll find that one key that will unlock your potential!

Practice #4: Get Counsel From Others
Many times, what you want to do someone has done or tried to do. There is nothing new under the sun. There is always someone who can give you some advice in the line of where you want to go. Many advisers bring victory.[3] Humble yourself, therefore, and ask for advice. Remember though, that whatever advice you get, you are responsible for the final decision you make.

Practice #5: Be Ready To Pay The Price
There is always a price to pay for winning. There are no shortcuts to success. Always be willing to go the extra mile. When it means putting your resources, time, mind and strength to accomplish something, please do it. Don’t look for the easy way out, look for the right way out.

Practice #6: Do The Uncomfortable Things
Winners do those uncomfortable things which losers hate doing. Does accomplishing your goal require you to wake up early, work extra hours, dress a certain way – whatever that is required of you, do it, as long as you don’t break the law or do something stupid. At times to win requires you to do things which indirectly affect your winning like exercising your body, drinking lots of water, proper hygiene among others. Do it.

Practice #7: Never Give Up
Winning comes to those who persevere. The good things in life normally do not come easy. You will have to determine to never give up until you achieve your goal. When the going gets tough and rough, you will have to soldier on until you raise the shout of victory.

You can win. You are a winner. Believe that the gifts, talents and abilities which God has given you are enough to bring you the success you were meant to have in this life. As you apply these seven practices, you will start to see a new trend, a new perspective and new way of life that will attract everything you need to become a winner. And with God by your side, you will succeed in all you do. [4]

Bill Keller, the world's leading Internet Evangelist and the founder of LivePrayer.com, with over 2.4 million subscribers worldwide reading the daily devotional he has written every morning for 12 years on the issues of the day from a Biblical worldview, says Satan is cheering Rev. Franklin Graham, Joel Osteen, and the former special prosecutor during the Clinton impeachment investigation Kenn Starr for being too gutless to tell the truth about Mormon cult member Mitt Romney.

In the past weeks as it becomes more likely former Mass. Governor and member of the Mormon cult Mitt Romney will win the Republican nomination to run against President Barack Obama, more and more high profile Christians are putting politics over souls by not telling the truth about the true beliefs of the Mormon cult and why a Mormon is no more a Christian than a Muslim is.

Keller, who in 2007 was in the national news after coining the phrase, 'A vote for Romney is a vote for Satan," said, "It is sad to see a man of God like Franklin Graham go into the nation media and state that he would vote for a cult member like Romney whose beliefs lead the eternal souls of men to hell. Osteen is a gutless coward, nothing more than a motivational speaker, who ignorantly lies to people by saying that a Mormon is a Christian, when Mormon doctrine is 100% inconsistent with Biblical Christianity. Starr, well known for his Christian views, made the political case why he could vote for a Mormon without once dealing with the spiritual implications of having a cult member as President."

Keller went on to say, "People are free to believe whatever they want. I have no problem with a person of any faith running for office. The only thing I have ever asked Romney or any member of his cult like Glenn Beck to do is to tell the truth. Romney LIES when he calls himself a Christian, since he and members of his cult believe their 'jesus' was created through the sexual union of their 'god' who was once a man, and Mary, meaning their 'jesus' is NOT a deity, is the brother of Lucifer, and once visited the United States. The 'god' and 'jesus of the Mormon cult is NOT the God and Jesus of the Bible, and the final authority for Mormons is NOT the Bible, but the writings of their cult's founder Joseph Smith who was a documented con man, pedophile, polygamist, racist, and murderer."

Keller concluded, "Listen, if Mitt Romney wants to wear magical underwear with Satanic markings that he believes protects him and thinks he will die and become the god of his own planet with an endless supply of women to create spirit babies with, that is up to him. I think it is journalistic malpractice for the media not to at least tell the truth about what Romney and those in his cult believe, while calling anyone with the guts to tell the truth about his cult a bigot. It is inexcusable for Christian leaders like Graham, Osteen, a respected Christian like Starr, and any other true Christian to help perpetuate the lie Mormons are Christians without any concern for the fact the Bible states those who believe a false gospel will die and their souls lost for eternity in hell!"

Keller, the leading internet evangelist for over a decade, said that his concern is not politics, but souls. He has been in the media sharing that the real problems in this nation are not political, but spiritual, and that the answer will never be found in a politician but courageous men and women of God who will help to lead this nation back to God and Biblical Truth. Keller stated, "The fact is each person will one day die. According to the Bible, at that moment, the only thing that will matter is whether you have accepted Jesus as your Savior or not. Since the Tower of Babel in Genesis, Satan has helped create false religions and belief systems to lead the eternal souls of men to hell. Mormonism is such a Satanically inspired belief system, and that is why it is critical for men and women of God to quit worrying about what people will think, but tell the truth about a cult like Mormonism!"

The Green Bay Packers canceled player availability on Monday, bracing for bad news as authorities searched for the missing 21-year-old son of offensive coordinator Joe Philbin.

Oshkosh police have yet to release the identity of the body. However, a source close to the family tells ESPN that Philbin's body has been positively identified.
Police have been searching for 21-year-old Michael T. Philbin since Sunday evening. He disappeared at about 2 a.m. Sunday after an outing with friends in the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh campus area, about 50 miles from Green Bay.
Joe Philbin spent Monday in Oshkosh, where divers recovered the body of a man between the ages of 20 and 25 from the Fox River in late afternoon after a security guard reported hearing cries for help from someone on the ice. Oshkosh Police said no foul play was suspected, but the man's name was being withheld until his family is notified.
"The Philbin family's obviously going through a tough time right now, and as we always have, we're a family-first philosophy with our organization, with our program," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Monday afternoon. "So we're supporting Joe and his family the best we can, and we're holding out hope that this comes to positive conclusion."
News of Michael Philbin's disappearance made for a difficult day in Green Bay, where the Packers are preparing for Sunday's NFC divisional playoff game against the New York Giants at Lambeau Field.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Philbin family during this difficult time," Packers general manager Ted Thompson said in a statement.
McCarthy spoke in a somber tone during his regularly scheduled news conference, confirming that Philbin was away from the team and in Oshkosh.
Although the offensive-minded McCarthy calls his own plays and has a hands-on role with game planning, Philbin's behind-the-scenes detail work with Aaron Rodgers and the rest of the offense would be missed. McCarthy said he has contingency plans in place to prepare for Sunday's game if Philbin remains away from the team.
"We're prepared to do whatever we need to do as a staff to make sure our team's ready to go," he said, brushing aside a question about what the team would be missing if it didn't have Philbin's input this week. "We'll be ready to go."
Players, who were not made available to reporters, took to Twitter to post supportive messages.
"As children we all have to someday say goodbye to our parents, but a parent should never have to say goodbye to their child," said offensive lineman T.J. Lang, whose father, Thomas, died last week.
Packers defensive lineman B.J. Raji wrote that "life is too short."
"Live in the present," Raji tweeted.
Joe Philbin has been with the Packers since 2003, and has been the team's offensive coordinator since 2007. He interviewed for the Miami Dolphins' vacant head coaching job last week.
Michael Philbin is the second-oldest of six children to Joe Philbin and his wife, Diane.

How Tim Tebow Inspires this Nation

Tim TebowTim Tebow is a one-man cultural blitz.

Pictured: Tim Tebow kneels in prayer before the Denver Broncos played the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

Were you talking about anyone else on Monday? Mitt Romney orNewt Gingrich facing off in New Hampshire today? Your boss?President Obama's new chief of staff? Doubtful.

The Denver Broncos quarterback -- a fervid evangelical with more devotion than downfield passing skills -- took 11 seconds to rip off the longest overtime touchdown pass in the shortest overtime in playoff history Sunday night, lofting his team into the second round of the NFL playoffs.

"Hyperbole is almost impossible," says Tom Krattenmaker, author ofOnward ChristianAthletes. "His piety and his outspoken evangelical commitment are interesting, but they wouldn't matter if not for the incredible drama and success he brings to the football field."

Now, Tebow talk has swept the nation.

• His against-all-odds heroics brought CBS a mind-blowing 25.9 overnight rating, the best for a wild card football game in almost 25 years

• Sports websites staggered under an onslaught of hits. NFL.com reported views of videos in the hour after the game up 385% over Wild Card Sunday last year.

• Tebow hit more than 1 million mentions on Twitter. Sunday night, the rate of tweets announcing the victory hit 9,420 per second. The all-time record was set last month when a TV screening of Japanese movie drew 25,088 tweets-per-second. But Tebow still beats the 8,868 tweets-per-second rate reached when Beyoncé announced her pregnancy during the2011 MTV Music Awards.

• Both Tebow and his favorite Bible verse, John 3:16 (proclaiming Jesus' promise of salvation), were in the top three Google Trends throughout most of Monday. Many people noted he threw for exactly 316 yards, an unintentional allusion to the Bible verse he etched into his eye black while winning national championships at the University of Florida.

• NFL sales of Tebow's No. 15 Broncos jersey are second only to those for Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, who won the Super Bowl last year.

But the Tebow wave was rolling well before Sunday.

Megachurch pastor Joel Osteen of Lakewood Church.jpg
Megachurch pastor Joel Osteen of Lakewood Church in Houston clarified his stance on sin, heaven and homosexuality on "Oprah's Next Chapter" late Sunday.

When Oprah Winfrey presses him on his thoughts on homosexuality, the 46-year-old pastor bluntly offered his opinion.
"I believe that homosexuality is shown as a sin in the Scripture. I do, I do," Osteen said. "When I read the Scripture, I can't with good faith I can't see that it does not show that it is a sin."
Osteen is careful to clarify that he does not think sexuality limits a person's ability to reach heaven. When asked if a gay person will be accepted into heaven, Osteen replied that he does think homosexuals can enter heaven, just as others with sins can enter heaven.
"Sometimes we look at gay being a bigger sin than being proud or not telling the truth," Osteen said. "I don't think God categorizes sins."
However, Osteen emphasizes that he believes people need to try to grow and change.

Katy Perry's father, Pastor Keith Hudson, has apologized after being criticized by two prominent Jewish groups for giving a sermon that included anti-Semitic remarks.
The evangelical preacher drew ire from the Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) on Monday because of remarks he made about Jews during a recent speaking engagement at the Church on the Rise in Westlake, Ohio.
"You know how to make the Jew jealous? Have some money, honey," Hudson allegedly said. "You go to L.A. and they own all the Rolex and diamond places. Walk down a part of L.A. where we live and it is so rich it smells. You ever smell rich? They are all Jews, hallelujah! Amen."
The director of the ADL, Abraham Foxman, called the remarks "unabashedly anti-Semitic," although he noted that he was not involving the pastor's 27-year-old pop star daughter in his reaction.
"Katy Perry is blameless for her parents' behavior, and it is unfortunate that her good name is now attached to her father's words," Foxman said.
SWC founder Rabbi Marvin Hier said the alleged comments were reminiscent of Hitler or his propaganda chief, Joseph Goebbles.
The Church on the Rise told CNN in a statement on Tuesday that Hudson's words were taken out of context.
"Keith Hudson was praying for different individuals and groups of people and he asked for business men and women to stand so that he could pray for them to be blessed and prosperous in their business pursuits," the statement says. "The comment was intended as a compliment, not as a criticism."
