At a special media event held on its Cupertino, California campus, Apple has announced theiPhone 5S, after CEO Tim Cook called it, “The most forward thinking phone we’ve ever created.” The headline feature is the inclusion of a biometric fingerprint sensor called Touch ID, which is mounted inside the iPhone’s traditional Home button. It’s used not only as a new way to unlock the phone, but also for authenticating purchases in iTunes. It’s clever too, and Apple says it can read sub-epiderma

We have been hearing a lot about Android 4.4 KitKat although until now only a few features here and there have been mentioned. There is an Italian blog called TuttoAndroid that seems to have gotten their hands on a Google Nexus 5 running the new Android OS. With the rumored release of the 4.4 KitKat OS in just a few days we finally have a decent sized list of features to show you.
New Features in Android 4.4 KitKat:
- The notification bar now supposedly has white icons and a transparent backgrou
Reuters is reporting that Google is one of the companies interested in buying Blackberry or at least some parts of it, among other companies like Cisco and SAP. This sounds like a good move for Google, depending on what exactly they’re interested in getting from Blackberry and how much they’re willing to spend for that.
For example, I’m not so sure buying the whole company outright, with all of its employees, would be worth it for Google. Paying another $5-$7 billion for a dying company, on
If you’ve bought an HTC device in the last couple of years, there’s a very good chance that it has the above branding on it. HTC and Beats went into a partnership around two years ago now. Producing devices such as the Sensation XE and the Rezound. As well, supposedly delivering “superior” audio quality, the partnership added software features over the years as well. Things went downhill rather quickly however, as HTC soon stopped including Beats earphones with their devices, going back to
When the iPhone 5s was first announced, one of the things that blew away the audience was the fact that its 64-bit processor, working in tandem with some great coding, could deliver some high quality graphics in a game. Of course, a full touchscreen display is not going to be optimal when it comes to some of the more complex games out there, not to mention you would always have a finger (or two) appearing on the display, blocking out your view in select parts that might just dampen your porta
The folks over at 9to5Google have just posted a couple of screenshots of what they believe to be pictures of a redesigned phone and messaging app, probably coming in Android 4.4. We’ve seen in the past that Google has been moving towards a lighter theme. A good example of that is the Google Play Store and Google Now. We know Android 4.4 is due to be announced in October, and we’ve already seen what we thought was a leak about new icons. Not really new, but instead of blue, they are now gray.
This is a phone that we don’t normally get to review. We normally get high-end or mid-range phones, all of which are sold by the carriers, with the exception of the Nexus 4. But BLU has a line of phones that seem to be kinda successful. A few weeks ago we talked about their new Dash line of phones, which start at just $40, unsubsidized. Yep, you heard me right. $40 unlocked, with a contract. Not bad right? There are a few things I want to say before we jump into this review. When you buy a p
Samsung took to the stage of its Unpacked 2013 Episode 2 event in Berlin, Germany with the goal of putting on a big event. What do you need to headline a big event? A big screen. The Galaxy Note series of devices from Samsung are known for just that, so it was only right that the Galaxy Note 3 was introduced today. Continuing the tradition of big screens on small devices, the Galaxy Note 3 has a 5.7-inch display that takes up the majority of the 6-inch surface area. But
Reports suggest that Apple will introduce a cheaper plastic-bodied iPhone 5C on September 10. The 4-inch phone will supposedly replace the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S in the product lineup. While the company will certainly gain market share in the lower-end spectrum of the smartphone market in the U.S., it’s just a side effect. The new model is the perfect iPhone for the rest of the world. In many countries, carriers are switching to unsubsidized, SIM-only plans and the iPhone is too expensive
Just as things started to look up for HTC – it has a major star promoting the company in a new ad campaign, the HTC One has just launched on Verizon, and we’re expecting the HTC One Maxsoon – so a new rumor reminds us the company is still struggling. The news comes from a report published by the Wall Street Journal, where it’s suggested the partnership between it and Beats by Dr. Dre could be coming to an end.
Apparently, the founders of Beats Electronics want to buy out HTC’s remaining
What we’re about to describe is the same kind of phenomenon we experienced with 5-inch phones in 2010. If you recall, that year marked the debut of the Dell Streak 5, an absolutely massive smartphone / tablet hybrid for that time. Fast-forward to 2013, when 5-inch screens are the norm and 6.44-inch displays are now considered too unwieldy. Such is the case with the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, which borrows many traits from the smaller Xperia Z while taking on a flatter shape. Basically, Sony turned th
Samsung Electronics Co. (005930) will introduce a wristwatch-like device named the Galaxy Gear next month that can make phone calls, surf the Web and handle e-mails, according to two people familiar with the matter.
The Galaxy Gear will be powered by Google Inc. (GOOG)'s Android operating system and go on sale this year to beat a potentially competing product from Apple Inc. (AAPL), the people said. The device will be unveiled Sept. 4, two days before the IFA consumer electronics show begins

The Moto X is a powerful phone that's comfortable to hold, but it's "Moto Maker" customization options set it apart. No phone is available in this many materials and colors.
It’s been a long time coming (and a lot of rumors), but today, we finally got our hands on the Moto X, the fi
To some extent, ASUS is a victim of its own success: it gave the budget tablet category a boost with the original Nexus 7, and it now faces a legion of competitors in that space. The company is taking a two-step approach to maintaining its relevance. The new Nexus 7 tackles the higher end, with top-tier specs that include a 1080p display and wireless charging. Right now, though, we’re more interested in ASUS’ low-end solution, the MeMo Pad HD 7. While it’s one of the cheaper name-brand tablets
Wow. We just recieved an awesome infographic on how to save your phone when you drop it into the toilet. Don't worry, you are not the only one, there are about 850 000 people annually who do the same. Some even stuck in the toilet while trying to rescue the holy device. Water damage is one of the most common ways a cell phone meets its death, but remember that you can save a cell phone from water damage. This infographic will show you the do’s and don’ts of dealing with a water-logged cell ph |
Best Buy leaked it early and then Google finally made it official: the second generation Nexus 7 is here. The 7-inch Android tablet to beat got some upgraded specs and the newest version of Android, 4.3. It’s thinner, lighter, and more drool-worthy. Will it make the iPad Mini nervous?
The Nexus 7 keeps the 7-inch display of its predecessor rather than adding a few fractions of an inch as other tablets have done recently. Instead, Google upped the pixel density by adding a full
