Tyler Perry is sharing some sweet words about his close, longtime friend Cicely Tyson.

 

The entertainment mogul wrote a heartfelt tribute to Tyson on Thursday night after learning she had died at the age of 96.

Tyler Perry’s “Boo 2! A Madea Halloween” will hit theaters on Oct. 20, Lionsgate announced Thursday.

Written and directed by Perry, the comedy will star himself, Cassi Davis and Patrice Lovely. The film follows Madea and the gang as they venture to a haunted campground and they must literally run for their lives when monsters, goblins and the bogeyman are unleashed.

Tyler Perry is known for creating opportunities for black actors. But recently the African-American filmmaker weathered a backlash for assembling an all-white starring cast for the TLC drama series “Too Close to Home.”

Perry rejects the criticism, much of it on social media. Some questioned his casting choices, with one calling the show an “all time low” for the producer when the series aired this year.

But by the end of the season, those harsh words turned mostly into praise of the series.

When Tyler Perry began creating shows for the then-struggling OWN Network four years ago, he’d send the scripts he’d written to Oprah Winfrey for approval — and she’d wince. 

“I would say, ‘I think that’s too much! It’s over the top! Oh my God, I can’t believe this is happening!'” Winfrey recounts about Perry’s first OWN show, “The Haves and Have Nots,” a prime-time drama fueled by connivers, sex and blackmail, now in its fourth season.

Others might have acquiesced to Winfrey. But not Perry.

Family and friends, including Tyler Perry, continued to visit Bobbi Kristina Brown at a hospice facility in the Atlanta area on Sunday. 

The iconic director/actor/entrepreneur joined the family and loved ones who’ve been gathered at her beside since she was transferred to the hospice on Wednesday, reports People.

The 45-year-old entertainment mogul has kept in contact with the Brown and Houston families in the months following the Jan. 31 incident that left the 22-year-old incapacitated.
