Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump ushered the 2016 presidential campaign into a new phase tonight, and they did it with plenty of barbs.

The first fall presidential debate of 2016 is being anticipated with all the hype (and class) of a heavyweight boxing match. Perhaps we should call it “Smackdown at the Mack,” since it is being held at the Hofstra University’s David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex on New York’s Long Island.

So how should you watch this D-Day of Debates? We have some tips for you:

What time does it start?

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will meet Monday night for their first debate in a virtual dead heat in the race for the White House, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, with the Democratic nominee’s August advantage erased after recent difficulties and the GOP nominee still facing doubts about his qualifications and temperament.

Likely voters split 46 percent for Clinton and 44 percent for Trump, with Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson at 5 percent and Green Party nominee

WATCH New Poll Shows Clinton Leading Trump by 6 Points

The race between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump has narrowed to essentially a dead heat nationally in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, raising the stakes dramatically for the first presidential debate Monday night.

A vast 74 percent of Americans plan to watch the debate. And while eight in 10 say it won’t change their minds, that leaves more than enough to shift the balance in an incr

Humble Beast emcee Sho Baraka recently wrote an article for Christianity Today called “Why I Can’t Vote for Either Trump or Clinton.” While the name is self-explanatory, the rapper really breaks down the problems African Americans face in this election whether they give their vote to a Republican or a Democrat.

“As an African American, I’m marginalized by the lack of compassion on the Right. As a Christian, I’m ostracized by the secularism of the Left. As a man, I’m greatly concerned by s

When Donald Trump says he has a great relationship with “the Blacks,” I wonder if he also gets along well with the Smiths. We know he’s tight with the Whites.

But what’s with the definite article?

During a brief dalliance with Google, I learned that Trump has used “the” before whites at least once – when commenting that Black Entertainment Television doesn’t offer awards to “the whites.” But for the most part, he reserves “the” for “the blacks,” or, as most people would sa

© Whitney Curtis for The New York Times Brittany Packnett, 31, a St. Louis-based activist, said that Hillary Clinton was not connecting with black voters.

When a handful of liberal advocacy organizations convened a series of focus groups with young black voters last month, the assessments of Donald J. Trump were predictably unsparing.

But when the participants were asked about Hillary Clinton, their appraisals were just as blunt and nearly as biting.

“What am I supposed to do if I don’t like h

Sean “Diddy” Combs said Sunday that black voters won’t get fooled again — insisting that Hillary Clinton has to prove herself before she gets the African-American vote since “[blacks] got a little bit shortchanged” by President Obama.

“My number one thing, though, to be honest, is black people,” the rapper turned mogul told the Rev. Al Sharpton on his MSNBC show Sunday. “I feel like we put President Obama in the White House. When I look bac

Hillary Clinton’s unpopularity reached a new high in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, putting her on par with Donald Trump among registered voters.

The latest findings solidify their positions as the two most unpopular presidential candidates in polling dating back more than 30 years.

Among all adults, 56 percent now view Clinton unfavorably, up 6 percentage points in three weeks, compared with 63 percent who say the same about Trump.

Among registered voters, the two candidates have

During the week Tim Kaine was selected as the vice presidential candidate by Hillary Clinton, many liberals – some of whom had deluded themselves with the pipe dream that Elizabeth Warren (or, even more delusionally, Bernie Sanders himself) might be picked – lined up to attack Kaine as insufficiently progressive. They cited his positive comments regarding the pending Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement, a recent letter he co-signed urging the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

PHILADELPHIA — Three black women are running the Democratic National Convention this week, taking charge of the top jobs that keep the massive gathering on schedule and, as much as possible, on message.

Veteran Democratic strategist Donna Brazile stepped up at the last minute to serve as interim chairman of the Democratic National Committee after embattled Chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned from her position Sunday. Although her resignation is effective at the end of the convention,

On Monday night during Michelle Obama’s moving DNC speech, she referenced her emotional reaction from watching her children live and play in a home that was built by slaves — a powerful moment that brought many watching to tears.

“I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves,” Mrs. Obama said in her keynote address. “I watch my daughters — two beautiful, intelligent, bla

Stirring speech draws praise from across the political spectrum.

When the Democratic National Convention opened on Monday to a chorus of boos from Bernie Sanders supporters, much of the attention focused on what the runner-up for the nomination would say to calm his faithful following.

But someone else stole the show.

First Lady Michelle Obama won praise for giving a stirring and optimistic speech in which she managed to attack Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump without once mentio

Michelle Obama may not be the president of the United States, but she certainly knows how to command a room.

The First Lady delivered her final campaign speech tonight as she helped open the floor during day one of the Democratic National Convention. With so much interest in Michelle’s 2008 DNC speech (because it was just heard again last week through the spirit of Melania Trump), America was ready to hear how and if Mrs. Obama would respond during her convention speech for the current electi

If it weren’t for Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton would be the most disliked major-party presidential nominee in recent American history.

That qualifier, of course, is important here. Clinton doesn’t need to be liked; she needs to be liked slightly more than Trump in what will very likely boil down to a two-candidate race.

But it’s h

Vice President Joe Biden is nearing a decision on whether to run for president, and it could come as early as within the next seven to 10 days, according to three people familiar with his deliberations.

Two of those people said he is leaning toward entering the race. Still, they caution that family considerations remain the overriding concern and would be the reason he doesn’t run. His wife, Dr. Jill Biden, has said that should the vice president launch a bid for the Oval Office, “of course”

But that’s if Biden chooses to run — the decision is his. While he doesn’t need the President’s permission, of course, a potential presidential candidacy was among the topics of their lunch Monday a
