Amy's, the organic and vegetarian food company known for its frozen entrees and canned soups, has once again created a novel concept: a vegetarian drive-thru restaurantAmy's Drive Thru just opened three weeks ago in Rohnert Park (about 50 miles North of San Francisco) and serves organic, non-GMO, and vegetarian fast food. We scoped the entire menu out (which includes everything from burgers to pizza) to bring to you our favorites starting with the best. FYI, everything is delicious.

Despite the entire menu being vegetarian, organic, and non-GMO . . . as well as offering gluten-free and vegan options for every single menu item, the prices are extremely affordable.

Single Gluten-Free, Vegan Burger ($3)

Description: Single veggie patty, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, Fred's secret sauce

Why it's awesome: OK, we tried both the gluten-free vegan burger and the original vegetarian burger, but the GF won our taste buds over by a landslide. The bun has a really squishy, soft texture and slight sweetness. We liked that it was sort of flat and didn't overwhelm all the other awesome ingredients, which were packed so neatly on top of one another. The vegan cheese tastes like a really thick slice of sharp cheddar — there's no weird aftertaste. Plus the veggie burger is killer, really moist and hearty. I think we detected some quinoa in there . . . the vegetables are so fresh. You won't find a mealy tomato on this burger! And the sauce? Creamy, tangy, and just salty enough. The flavors and textures are as balanced as can be.

Chocolate Milkshake ($3-$4)

Description: Dairy or nondairy

Why it's awesome: We tried both versions (as well as the vanilla and strawberry flavors), but the chocolate milkshakes reigned supreme. These thick chocolate milkshakes are like black and white milkshakes (vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup). They will be slurped up quick and will cause brain freeze.

The Amy ($4)

Description: Double veggie patty, double cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, Fred's secret sauce

Why it's awesome: This is the most-sold item, and it's understandable why! Everything from the fluffy house-made bun to the cheddar cheese oozing onto the sides of the burger patties make this the veggie burger of your dreams. The patty itself is reminiscent of Amy's frozen burgers, but the team assured us that they formulated a special patty for the drive thru. While it's tough to pinpoint the exact flavor, it tastes like grains and vegetables. There's no funny, fake meat taste at all!

Vegan Gluten Free Margherita Pizza ($7)

Description: Single-serve pizza with chopped tomatoes and fresh basil

Why it's awesome: First of all, Amy's Drive Thru has special stickers and boxes to designate gluten-free and vegan items. Those with allergies, have no fear. Amy's will ensure your food has not been cross-contaminated by preparing it away from gluten and/or dairy. The "allergy" sticker designates that this extra step was taken. But now back to the food! Amy's makes great frozen pizzas, but these fresh pizzas are insanely addictive. The crust is bouncy and has an incredible crunch from the corn meal. The cheese and the spinach flavors are great, but seeing as it's Summer and tomatoes are at their peek, the margheritapizza can't be missed.

Super Salad ($8)

Description: Seasonal lettuces, quinoa, hummus, baked tofu, shredded carrots, shredded purple cabbage, and pumpkin seeds (with your choice of balsamic vinaigrette, raspberry vinaigrette, or ranch)

Why it's awesome: This salad is no sad iceberg lettuce salad. It puts all fast food salads to shame. Butter lettuce acts as the base (the same lettuce used in the burgers). All of the salad ingredients are flavorful and add a nice texture contrast. I'm dying to re-create this salad at home.

Mac 'N' Cheese ($5)

Description: Your choice of traditional, broccoli cheddar mac with bread crumbs, or tomato and green onion mac with bread crumbs

Why it's awesome: Another one of Amy's signature frozen entrees makes an appearance. All of the pasta is made of rice and therefore gluten-free. The vegan "cheeze" sauce rivals the original. All of the oven-baked macs are awesome, but we loved the tomato and green onion mac most of all. It's on the spicy side, and the breadcrumbs are toasted to perfection.

Classic Burrito ($5)

Description: Red beans, red rice, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, Fred Jr's chipotle salsa (mild or spicy)

Why it's awesome: Our group of taste testers know and love Amy's frozen burritos, but these take things a step further with the addition of fresh veggies. We went crazy for the slightly spongy gluten-free tortilla and the spicy chipotle salsa (which is almost like a creamy chile con queso dip).

Margherita Pizza ($7)

Description: Single-serve pizza with chopped tomatoes and fresh basil

Why it's awesome: We tried the regular wheat crust pizza with dairy cheese against the vegan gluten free pizza . . . and while this one is still pretty tasty, we loved the crunchiness of the vegan GF pizza. We think this pizza has the potential to win us over if we request it to be cooked a little longer so the crust has a chance to crisp up.

Chili Fries (3)

Description: Amy's Fries with chili and green onion

Why it's awesome: Amy's chili is a staple in our cabinets, so we loved seeing it appear on the menu. You can get it solo, over brown rice, or on Amy's fries (which we totally recommend). You can even go the extra indulgent mile by adding cheese on top for 50 cents. Animal fries, what?
