Black Bean Turkey Chili

Black Bean Turkey Chili from Simply Recipes

It’s January! Meaning as pretty as it may look on a sunny winter day here in Northern California, as soon as I step outside I want to turn around and head back in, where it is still toasty warm. Days like these are perfect for cooking a big pot of chili beans, don’t you think? The basis for this turkey chili recipe comes from my friend Kelsey’s mom Janeen. It’s one of their family favorites. It uses naturally lean ground turkey, plenty of black beans, onions, carrots, and red bell peppers, and can be made in one big pot. I’ve dressed the original up a little with a bit more seasonings. It’s great over rice, or with tortillas, and tastes even better the next day when the flavors have had more time to blend. Enjoy!

*Chris Paul may be leaving the Los Angeles Clippers.

After gaining stardom and helping to create a new age dream team, the All Star decided to turn down a three-year $60 million contract renewal. And so the possibilities of becoming a New York Knick are looking more likely.

Tim Fuller of USA Today reminds us that at Carmelo Anthony’s wedding, he gave a toast, professing that he, Carmelo, and Amar’e Stoudemire would one day be called “own big three in New York,” referencing the triple threat the Miami Heat have with LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade.

But this could all be a money issue and could change overnight.

If he waits until the end of the season, he could sign a $108 million deal in LA. So anything is possible.

4798Amazing Fact About the Negro No. 13: What happened to the "40 acres and a mule" that former slaves were promised?

We've all heard the story of the "40 acres and a mule" promise to former slaves. It's a staple of black history lessons, and it's the name of Spike Lee's film company. The promise was the first systematic attempt to provide a form of reparations to newly freed slaves, and it was astonishingly radical for its time, proto-socialist in its implications. In fact, such a policy would be radical in any country today: the federal government's massive confiscation of private property -- some 400,000 acres -- formerly owned by Confederate land owners, and its methodical redistribution to former black slaves. What most of us haven't heard is that the idea really was generated by black leaders themselves.
It is difficult to stress adequately how revolutionary this idea was: As the historian Eric Foner puts it in his book, Reconstruction: America's Unfinished Revolution, 1863-1877, "Here in coastal South Carolina and Georgia, the prospect beckoned of a transformation of Southern society more radical even than the end of slavery." Try to imagine how profoundly different the history of race relations in the United States would have been had this policy been implemented and enforced; had the former slaves actually had access to the ownership of land, of property; if they had had a chance to be self-sufficient economically, to build, accrue and pass on wealth. After all, one of the principal promises of America was the possibility of average people being able to own land, and all that such ownership entailed. As we know all too well, this promise was not to be realized for the overwhelming majority of the nation's former slaves, who numbered about 3.9 million.
What Exactly Was Promised?
We have been taught in school that the source of the policy of "40 acres and a mule" was Union General William T. Sherman's Special Field Order No. 15, issued on Jan. 16, 1865. (That account is half-right: Sherman prescribed the 40 acres in that Order, but not the mule. The mule would come later.) But what many accounts leave out is that this idea for massive land redistribution actually was the result of a discussion that Sherman and Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton held four days before Sherman issued the Order, with 20 leaders of the black community in Savannah, Ga., where Sherman was headquartered following his famous March to the Sea. The meeting was unprecedented in American history.

bamacelebrates.jpgAlabama spent the past month downplaying talk of a college football dynasty, but it took just a few minutes Monday night to prove once again that Nick Saban's program is operating on a completely different level.

Alabama won its third national title in the last four years at Sun Life Stadium, humiliating previously No. 1-ranked Notre Dame 42-14 in a BCS national championship game that never seemed competitive. The match-up of college football's biggest brand names fizzled practically from the kickoff. Alabama scored touchdowns on its first three possessions and built a 35-0 lead midway through the third quarter.
"I don't think words like dynasty are words that I'm interested in," Saban said. " We're interested in accomplishment and consistency and performance.
"I would say that regardless of the result that this team achieved, that they exceeded every expectation we had for them. ... They were able to repeat. That is hard to do. That is very, very hard to do. It takes special people with a special character and a special will."
In the process, the Crimson Tide (13-1) secured a seventh consecutive national title for the Southeastern Conference and earned head coach Nick Saban his fourth overall (his first, in 2003, came with LSU), putting him within range of legendary Alabama coach Bear Bryant's six.
This one might have been the most impressive. Alabama lost five starters on offense and seven on defense from the team that beat LSU in last year's championship, but Saban regrouped with just one slip-up: a 29-24 loss to Texas A&M and eventual Heisman winner Johnny Manziel on Nov. 10.
By Monday, however, that performance was a distant memory. Alabama began the game with an 82-yard touchdown drive - the longest given up by Notre Dame's defense all season - and marched 202 yards on just 22 plays in the first quarter. The Crimson Tide made it 21-0 on the first play of the second quarter and scored again 31 seconds before halftime on Eddie Lacy's 11-yard catch-and-spin touchdown.
Notre Dame, meanwhile, was overwhelmed by Alabama's physicality and speed, unable to stop either Lacy (140 yards, the offensive player of the game) or quarterback A.J. McCarron, who threw for four touchdowns and completed 20 of 28 passes for 264 yards. The Fighting Irish (12-1) built an offensive game plan to test Alabama's secondary but gained just 124 yards in the first half and only crossed midfield once.
The Tide players seemed almost to take the title in stride. Asked if the program could be called a dynasty now, McCarron laughed a bit and said, "Everybody's got their own opinions. You can label us what you want. I just know this team has worked hard to get to the point where we're at. I couldn't be more proud of these guys."

4798If you thought Pilar Sanders was getting the short end of the stick during her divorce from football/baseball legend Deion Sanders, it turns out the NFL broadcaster is having his own issues as well. Find out why his legal team is walking away from him inside.

We told you about previously about Pilar Sanders coming out on the losing end of her ongoing divorce from Deion Sanders, but things just got even messier as the legal team that had previously won so many victories for Deion, is now ALSO divorcing him.
In legal documents filed on New Year's Eve, Deion's legal team effectively quit the divorce proceedings and asked to be withdrawn from the case, stating an inability to "effectively communicate with their client."  They noted that Deion is "unable to pay his attorneys pursuant to the terms of the employment agreements with his attorneys."

The BCS title game between the Fighting Irish and Crimson Tide features two of the nation's top defenses.
The Bowl Championship Series title game between Alabama and Notre Dame features two of college football's most storied programs and two of the nation's top defenses. Times staff writer Gary Klein examines the matchups between the Crimson Tide and Fighting Irish.
Alabama Rushing vs. Notre Dame Defense
Alabama features two 1,000-yard running backs. Junior Eddie Lacy has run for 1,182 yards and 16 touchdowns, freshman T.J. Yeldon 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns. Each averages more than six yards a carry. All-American center Barrett Jones, All-American guard Chance Warmack and tackle D.J. Fluker lead an offensive line that helps Alabama average 224.6 yards rushing a game.
Notre Dame ranks sixth nationally in total defense and is fourth against the run, surrendering only 92.4 yards rushing a game. All-American inside linebacker Manti Te'o and end Stephon Tuitt anchor a unit that also features burly nose tackle Louis Nix.
Alabama Passing vs. Notre Dame Defense
Crimson Tide quarterback AJ McCarron leads the nation in passing efficiency, passing for 26 touchdowns, with only three passes intercepted. The junior has completed 67% of his passes.
McCarron's favorite target is receiver Amari Cooper, who has 53 catches, nine for touchdowns. Kevin Norwood and Christion Jones have 25 and 24 catches, respectively, and Kenny Bell averages 25.4 yards per catch.
Notre Dame ranks 21st nationally against the pass. Te'o has seven interceptions. Tuitt has 12 sacks, linebacker Prince Shembo 71/2.

Nowhere in the Bible does God promise that life will be all good and easy when we become Christians. More than once, I have heard a Christian or preacher more than imply to others that if they are tired of suffering, they need to come out of this world and become a Christian. The truth is that though Christians are not of this world they are still in this world.
When I say that Christians are [not supposed to be] of this world, I simply mean that Christians are commanded to not conform to the ways of this world.

But that does not change the fact that Christians still must live in this world, subject to the same challenges of anybody else.

It is important for us to understand that God has not designed us to carry the weight of our world. Rather, He instructs us to live our lives, "Casting all your care upon him: for he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7). Not some of our cares, but "all your care."

Personally, I have not mastered this lifestyle, but I continue to improve in the area of casting my cares upon the Lord. One thing I do know is that the better I get at doing this, the less stressful my life becomes.

But let me get down to where the rubber meets the road. This invitation from God to cast your cares upon the Lord gets at the heart of our relationship with God. You see, just because God's Word tells us to cast all our cares upon Him does not mean that we can effectively do that. Of course, we can go through the motions and claim that we have.

But here is the real question: What difference did it make after you claimed to have given a problem to the Lord? There has to be a certain level of faith in God's faithfulness such that you feel genuine peace and confidence on the inside after you have prayed about a pressing problem and have invited God to be a part of the equation.

Finally, I want you to know that the word "care" in the verse above has to do with our worries and anxieties. God is hereby inviting us to cast upon Him all the things that cause us to worry and become anxious. Though we have genuine faith in God, we still have challenges in this world like everyone else does, but when we know that God hears and answers our prayers, our life will not be characterized by worry and anxiety.

Packers safety Charles Woodson (21) celebrates a play during the fourth quarter. (Jeff Hanisch, USA TODAY Sports)

The Vikings turned to Joe Webb with Christian Ponder sidelined by a sore right elbow
Come on home, Aaron Rodgers.
All Rodgers did for the Green Bay Packers Saturday night, in a 24-10 wild card round win against the Minnesota Vikings, was provide yet another reminder of that no matter how good your running back is, no matter what happened in previous games - even as recently as six days ago - when it comes to the NFL playoffs, a team is only as good as its quarterback.
Amid the focus Saturday on Minnesota quarterback Christian Ponder's injured triceps and elbow, and with the dismal passing performance by backup Joe Webb, Rodgers methodically and efficiently earned the first home playoff win of his career, and with it, a divisional round date next week against the San Francisco 49ers at Candlestick Park.
It will mark the first time Rodgers plays a meaningful NFL game in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he played in college at the University of California. Rodgers' hometown of Chico is less than 200 miles away. And then there is the ever present draft-day-snub story line that will follow Rodgers every time he plays the 49ers for the rest of his career.
Rodgers frequently downplays the quarterback-vs.-quarterback matchups, but with Webb playing opposite Rodgers Saturday night at Lambeau Field, it hardly seemed fair. The Packers will face another quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, in his first postseason start next week. The other three remaining NFC teams are quarterbacked by two rookies (Washington's Robert Griffin III and Seattle's Russell Wilson) and a veteran without a playoff win (Atlanta's Matt Ryan).
"I feel like we have the best quarterback in the league, let alone the NFC," said Green Bay receiver James Jones. "It always falls back on him, and we're only going to go as far as his right arm takes us. If we play good defense and make plays for him on offense on the outside, we'll be fine."
Ponder, who played the best game of his career six days ago in Minnesota's 37-34 win against the Packers, wasn't ruled out of Saturday's game until 90 minutes before kickoff, and Webb learned he would be starting not much before that. Ponder threw about a dozen warm-up throws three hours before kickoff, but a deep bruise in his triceps (an injury sustained in the second quarter last week) was too limiting. Ponder had thrown little during the week, but until Saturday morning, he and team officials remained optimistic he would be able to play in Minnesota's first playoff game since the 2009 season.

the-abolitionists-PBS-series.jpg
As the nation marks the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, PBS premieres "The Abolitionists," a three-part series, on Tuesday (Jan. 8).
Documentarian Rob Rapley, the writer and director of the series, talked with Religion News Service about the role religion played in the lives of the abolitionists.
The interview has been edited for length and clarity.

Q: How would you sum up the role of faith in the work of American abolitionists?

A: It was a time in which religion played a central role in American life with the Second Great Awakening. Every one of the abolitionists was shaped very much by their faith. In fact, they would have defined themselves first by their faith before any other category.

Q: Many of the abolitionists were driven by the notion that slaveholding was sinful. How did their opponents respond?

A: One of the most difficult things to comprehend about this story is the degree to which slavery was an accepted part of American life. It was sanctioned in the Bible, certainly all over the place in the Old Testament, so slaveholders used that as justification.

Q: Some abolitionists talked about "moral suasion." How did that affect their arguments against slavery?

A: They really resorted to this idea of converting people. Since that was a central part of the evangelical movement that was sweeping the country at the time, they thought, "Well why not? If people can be converted to faith then why can they not be converted to anti-slavery?"

Q: How would you describe some of the religious views of abolitionists such asJohn Brown?

A: As John Brown saw it, God had a plan for him, that life was predestined and, especially, that you had to make sense of your afflictions. As John Brown's afflictions mounted, he took that as a message from God that he had to take up arms.

Q: You pointed out the role of women abolitionists, such as Angelina Grimke's appeal to Christian women of the South. Was she at all successful?

A: She said explicitly, "I know that you do not make the laws, but your husbands and brothers and fathers do." She urged them to advocate ending slavery to their kinfolk who we
re in positions of power. She thought that if the women of the South turned against slavery, it would lead very quickly to the end of slavery, that men would follow suit. That was roundly rejected. The gentle appeal to her kinfolk resulted in a violent backlash.

Q: Despite their differences, Frederick Douglass hailed William Lloyd Garrison for challenging the power of both church and state. What was Garrison's greatest charge against the church?

A: A lot of the established churches just said, "We don't want any part of this,'' where they had initially hosted anti-slavery meetings. Garrison said, "You are not being faithful to the Word. We are. Therefore, we must come out of the churches." It was actually called come-outerism: come out of the churches, come out of the government, separate ourselves from this unclean society. That was the essence of Garrison's charge. The churches were part of the evil.

Q: What about Douglass? Did he have similar problems with the church?

A: Douglass had grown up in slavery surrounded by very outspokenly religious slaveholders who were the pillars of the Methodist church in Maryland. So he just felt from the beginning that the established church was just unredeemably corrupt. But he also was a profound, faithful man.

Q: Before he signed the Emancipation Proclamation, President Lincoln had a different view on what to do with the U.S. slave population. What did he suggest to black ministers?

A: He invited five black ministers to the White House in the summer of 1862 and he basically said, "If it weren't for your people, we wouldn't have this war." He tried to recruit them into an effort to lead colonization. These prominent ministers would lead their people and, with the aid of the government, would take them back to Africa to Liberia or to Haiti. Everyone in the abolitionist movement was absolutely stunned by this. Once he had signed the Emancipation Proclamation, he never mentioned it again.

Q: As the country marks the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, what message do you hope viewers will walk away with after seeing your series?

A: I think it's really a testament to the power of the individual. These characters were up against overwhelming odds. In hindsight, it seems like the end of slavery was inevitable, but it was in fact about the most unlikely thing in the world. And a very small set of people set this vortex in motion, which eventually swept up the country and changed our history for the better. It really is so easy to lose sight of the fact that if you're dedicated enough and if you have a clear vision of something right and true that you can, in fact, effect change.

Andy Reid spent much of Thursday in negotiations to become the Kansas City Chiefs' coach, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press.

The discussions followed nine hours of talks Wednesday that went well enough that Reid canceled plans to interview for other openings, the person told the AP.

If this is goodbye Mr. Chip, then many thanks.

For 46 glorious wins in your four years, taking Oregonians to all but the pinnacle of college football. And for returning to the scene of that one shortfall to razzle if not dazzle for a 35-17 thumping of No. 6 Kansas State in the 42nd Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.
You'll be missed at Oregon, Chip Kelly, should you leave to see if the changing NFL is ready for your blur offense, but certainly not forgotten. Not at a place that once suffered through eight consecutive losing seasons but now can boast about consecutive Bowl Championship Series wins and three top-five national finishes in a row.
"We want Chip," the Oregon faithful chanted at University of Phoenix Stadium, where they were outnumbered by Kansas State fans in a crowd of 70,242. Those who came from Eugene, Ore., no doubt included many who were stunned into silence here two years ago when Auburn won the BCS Championship Game 22-19 on a game-ending field goal.
The numbers never really added up for the Wildcats (11-2) after Oregon's De'Anthony Thomas returned the opening kickoff 94 yards, capped by a 2-point conversion run by defensive end Dion Jordan.
The deficit grew to 15-0 by the end of the first quarter, more points than No. 3 Oregon (12-1) scored in its only loss of the season, 17-14 to Stanford in overtime Nov. 17. Kansas State chased hard to catch up and almost did so late in the first half.
Then, as at the outset, the Ducks struck like lightning with a 46-second drive after a missed field-goal attempt in a 10-point swing putting the Wildcats in an inescapable 22-10 hole.
"Our players won the game for us," Kelly said. "I can't say enough about our defense. It was a heck of a game. We were fortunate to come out on top. We lost to a real good Stanford team, but our guys know we've got to come back. We came out the next week and got ourselves to a fourth BCS game. It was about finishing and sending the seniors out the right way."
History says that scoring on the opening kickoff in a bowl here is no guarantee of victory.

4798Sarah Caron made her son his favorite pancakes for breakfast and walked the second-grader to the top of the driveway for the school bus.

A Sandy Hook Elementry student flashes a sign as children leave on a school bus in Newtown , Connecticut January 3, 2013. Students at the elementary school where a gunman massacred 26 children and teachers last month were returning Thursday to classes at an alternative campus described by police as 'the safest school in America.'
"I hugged him a lot longer than normal, until he said, `Mommy, please,'" she said. "And then he got on the bus, and he was OK."
It was 7-year-old William's first day of school since last month's massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary, and his mother tried to make the day as normal as possible. But it was harder than usual to say goodbye.
William was among more than 400 students who escaped a gunman's rampage that killed 20 first-graders and six educators at Sandy Hook on Dec. 14. On Thursday, the returning students settled in at their old, familiar desks but in a different school in a different town.
Students, teachers and administrators were met by a large police presence outside their new school in the neighboring town of Monroe, where a middle school that had been shuttered for nearly two years was overhauled and renamed after their old school. Several officers guarded the entrance and checked IDs of parents dropping off children.
Monroe police Lt. Keith White said attendance was very good and the children were getting back to "business as usual."
"A lot of them were happy to see their friends they hadn't seen in a while," he said.
William's classroom had been across the hall from a first-grade room where children and teacher Victoria Soto died, and he had been nervous about going back to school, Caron said. But an open house Wednesday at the school eased some of his fears.
"They didn't talk about what happened at all," she said. "They went in, met up with their teachers, had a little circle time and it was just about trying to get them back into school."
Most of the students arrived at the new school in Monroe by bus, something school officials had suggested to help them get back into a familiar routine.
Nick Phelps, who lives a few blocks from the original Sandy Hook school, said his first-grader and third-grader are excited about the new school because it means a longer bus ride to Monroe, which is about 7 miles away.
He was there when the bus brought them home Thursday afternoon.
"I was never so excited to see my children and, certainly, to see my children get off the bus. There was a shared joy," he said.
About 80 parents attended an assembly Thursday with school and police officials, who fielded questions about security and activities planned for their children. White said security will remain at a high level for now and will be re-evaluated each week.
The gunman, 20-year-old Adam Lanza, shot and killed his mother inside their Newtown home before driving to the school. He shot his way into the building and carried out the massacre before committing suicide as police arrived.
On Thursday, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced the creation of an advisory commission that will review and recommend changes to state laws and policies on gun control, school safety measures and mental health services in the wake of the Sandy Hook rampage.
A spokesman for Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman also said Thursday that Wyman has been invited to attend a meeting between former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and families of the victims.
Spokesman Steve Jensen said a visit by Giffords and her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, is "planned but not confirmed" for Friday afternoon. He says the plans include the Giffords meeting at a private home with the families.
Meanwhile, the Hearst Connecticut Media Group apologized Thursday because one of its newspapers ran an ad for an antique gun show next to an article about the Newtown school shooting.
A statement released by Group Publisher Paul Farrell said the ad's placement in The Advocate of Stamford was the result of an oversight.
In Monroe, teams of workers, many of them volunteers, prepared the new school and even raised bathroom floors so the smaller elementary school students can reach the toilets. The students' backpacks and other belongings that were left behind after the shooting were taken to the new school to make them feel at home.
Students found the same chairs and desks, when possible. Their classroom walls were painted the same colors and hung with the same pictures. Other details, such as the location of bookshelves and cubby holes, were replicated as much as possible.
Newtown school Superintendent Janet Robinson said the school has been transformed into a "cheerful" place for the students. She said mental health counselors continue to be available for anyone who needs them.
Caron, 32, said her son knows what happened and has undergone counseling. She said her 5-year-old daughter, Paige, attends afternoon kindergarten at the school and has been dealing with nightmares about "snakes and bears and coyotes."
"She wasn't at school that day but was with me when we went to look for William at the firehouse," Caron said. "Unfortunately, she heard more about it than I wish she did."
Intellectually, Caron said, she knows her children will be very safe at their new school.
"But, emotionally," she said. "It's very hard to turn off the little `What if?' that kind of hangs on and says, `Well, you know what, December 14th started out as a normal day, too."

I got introduced to Triumfant Muzik in 2010. One of the artist on the label, Konviction reached out to me. He was promoting the album he had just dropped called, “The Lazarus Experience Vol. 1”. We both share a passion for music and Hip Hop so we started vibing and became friends. He’s even done some writing for The Oracle. To be real with you, I wasn't a huge fan of that album from an artistic perspective. I loved the testimony and the passion in the lyrics but I wasn’t really feeling the production. The beats weren't wack but they didn't move me to want to listen to the tracks again. But like I said, that was 2010. Triumfant Muzik has grown and matured a lot since then.

The Power Project is a compilation album that features the whole crew, Aero, Fee-Lo, Konviction, Larry BirthRight, and Lu-I. The main idea of is to encourage everyone to plug into God’s power, and they all work hard to get their point across.

Two of my favorate songs feature Konviction on the mic and Tonejonez.com on the boards. "Heaven is Good" takes a nice Rance Allen Sample and allows it to rest on top of a knock’n sound bed. "Salvation" is a west coast banger that features a sample from the Jackson 5’s, I’ll be There. Konviction goes ham on both joints helping to add a different type of flavor to the project.

Lu-I really brought the heat on "Money." The beat sounds a little like Lloyd Banks’ "Beamer, Benz, or Bentley." But on this track, Lu-I attacks selfish wants and materialistic desires.

Aero really does something we don’t see enough of from our Christian brothers. On "Russian Roulette" and "Devil Knocking," he opens up about battling his flesh over a couple of infectious beats.

δύναμις (doo’-nam-is) is the Greek word in the New Testament that is translated as “Power”. Power is what we need to break the chains of sin’s slavery, walk upright, and do what GOD called us to do. This project shows the power at work with these brothers. This album has joints for the radio, the whip, the club or your home stereo system.
I would like to hear a deeper variety of beats and more experimenting with sounds but overall Triumfant Muzik has delivered their best work to date, with a decent amount of playback value. I’m really looking forward to seeing where they go from here.

Some preachers proclaim Christians are promised health, wealth and prosperity when they tithe. They say give God ten percent of your (gross) income. In return, God will prosper you. Is this true? Is this biblical?

A careful study of the Bible shows that Christians are not promised prosperity if they tithe.

Here are the facts about tithing and prosperity:

1. Biblical tithing did not consist of money. Tithing was an ancient Jewish ritual involving animal and blood sacrifices. Tithes always consisted of agricultural produce.

And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or fruit of the tree, is the Lord's: it is holy unto the Lord (Leviticus 27:30, KJV).

2. The ancient Jewish people were the only biblical figures who were commanded to tithe. The tithing command was one of 613 commandments of the Mosaic Law. Ancient Israel was promised blessings only if they followed all 613 commandments.

But it shall come to pass, if thou will not hearken unto the voice of the lord thy god, to observe all his commandments and his statutes which command thee this day; that all these curses shall come up on the, and overtake thee (Deuteronomy 28:15, KJV).

3. There's no mention of Christians tithing in the Bible. Early Christians practiced giving - not tithing. Furthermore, there is no scripture stating Christians will prosper if they pay tithes.

4. There are millions of Christians who pay ten percent of their income to churches and ministries yet they remain poor, broke or debt-ridden. Yet some of the wealthiest people in the world don't pay tithes.

5. You do not have to tithe in order to prosper. The path to prosperity involves using your God-given gifts/talents to serve humanity. Prosperity also involves saving and investing one's money wisely.

The Kansas City Chiefs made a big push for Andy Reid, and now it appears they will land their guy.
Reid's camp was planning to notify the Arizona Cardinals and San Diego Chargers Thursday afternoon he will not be meeting with them because he was closing in on a deal with the Chiefs, according to a person informed of the progress of negotiations between the former Philadelphia Eagles coach and the team.
The person, who spoke to USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity because talks were ongoing, said Reid was loosely planning to interview with Arizona on Friday and San Diego on Saturday but that the meeting with the Chiefs Wednesday night went so well it's become clear that's where Reid is likely to land. The person said there is no deal as of now, but it's likely to be finalized shortly.
It's unclear what Reid's potential hiring will mean to Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli, who sat in on the meetings. There have been reports Reid will bring former Eagles general manager Tom Heckert with him, though that's not a certainty at this point.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals have requested and received permission to interview Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley, per a person with knowledge of the details of that meeting. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the interview wasn't to be addressed publicly.
