Take heart, America: It’s not all scandal and gridlock in Washington. The nation’s capital also leads the country in print book purchases, according to Amazon’s annual list of the most well-read cities in the country.

But Washington falls to No. 5 when the rankings take into account all book, magazine and newspaper sales in both print and Kindle format. Under that broader scope, Seattle and Portland, Ore., hold the two top spots.

Here is Amazon’s list of the top 20 most well-read cities, on a per capita basis, from April 2014 to April 2015:

1. Seattle.
2. Portland.
3. Las Vegas.
4. Tucson.
5. Washington.
6. Austin.
7. San Francisco.
8. Albuquerque.
9. Denver.
10. Louisville.
11. Charlotte.
12. Baltimore.
13. San Diego.
14. Houston.
15. Indianapolis.
16. San Jose.
17. Jacksonville, Fla.
18. San Antonio
19. Nashville.
20. Chicago.

Only cities with more than 500,000 residents were included, but the country’s biggest cities don’t necessarily dominate. Notably, the publishing capital of the world, New York, doesn’t make the cut. Still, that 500,000 limit can have a significant impact on the composition of such lists. In 2011, Amazon considered cities of 100,000 or greater, which produced a very different list, as you can see from the top 5:

1. Cambridge, Mass.
2. Alexandria, Va.
3. Berkeley, Calif.
4. Ann Arbor, Mich.
5. Boulder, Colo.
