An Oscar nominee at age 9, Quvenzhane Wallis is now getting an early start on a writing career.

The actress known for “Beasts of the Southern Wild” has a deal with Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers for a chapter book series and a picture book.

Take heart, America: It’s not all scandal and gridlock in Washington. The nation’s capital also leads the country in print book purchases, according to Amazon’s annual list of the most well-read cities in the country.

But Washington falls to No. 5 when the rankings take into account all book, magazine and newspaper sales in both print and Kindle format. Under that broader scope, Seattle and Portland, Ore., hold the two top spots.
