An optimist might look at the Lakers-Thunder series and come away thinking about how close Los Angeles is to championship contention.
The middle three games of Oklahoma City's five-game win in the Western Conference semifinals were all close, and with better crunch-time execution, the Lakers could have won all three and be headed ho

LeBron James, Kobe BryanLeBron James and Kobe Bryant ran their mouths while they jogged downcourt, not quite making eye contact during an unpleasant conversation in the closing minutes.

"Just asked him what he got for Christmas," James said.

Although the two superstars wouldn't reveal what angry words they exchanged, it wasn't tough to pick out a few statements Saturday. While Kobe and the Los Angeles Lakers got a disturbing first look at the Miami Heat, LeBron got the last word at Staples Center yet again.

Artest has kept the Lakers in this thing, plain and simple.

Kobe Bryant has eight points. Pau Gasol, six. Andrew Bynum, two.The Lakers have taken 49 shots and missed a dizzying 36 of them. They had 10 GAMES this season where they missed 36 shots or less, and they just did it in a half, with an NBA title on the line?

NEW YORK – Television ratings for Game 6 of the NBA finals were down from the last one between the Lakers and Celtics, which was also a blowout but crowned a champion.
Los Angeles' 89-67 win Tuesday on ABC drew a 12.3 overnight rating, down 4 percent from the 12.8 for Boston's lopsided clinching victory in 2008. This time there will be a rare Game 7 — just the third in 22 years — and the chance for a big rating on Thursday.
The last non-clinching Game 6, Pistons-Spurs in 2005, earned a 10.5 — 15

LOS ANGELES – When Kobe Bryant joined the Lakers and Paul Pierce landed with the Celtics in the late 1990s, they both learned most of what they needed to know about their franchises' histories and expectations simply by looking at the forests of fabric high above the court.

These teams only hang banners for championships, and they're usually in big groups.

Multiple titles are the only metric of success, the only validation still interesting to Bryant and Pierce. Bryant is trying
