things that God delivered you from in that process. Feel free to
elaborate even on how those things that were foolish in your past, God
has even begun to use those things for His glory.

Json: Man by God's grace I have made it through a lot. So much I can't even
put it all in words. Because there’s so much to the story I really
encourage people to peep the links below to my documentary. It walks
through my life and interviews my mother as well as homies from my
hood.

Konviction: From what I understand, you are certainly 116 affiliated, but you
are your own artist on Lamp Mode Recordings. Can you share with us
what has made the relationship with Lamp Mode significant for your
ministry and what circumstances lead you in that direction?

Json: Well, I have pretty much always been friends with the guys a Lamp
Mode. I think what lead me that direction was Esso reached out to me
and let me know they wanted to work with me. After careful
consideration, I felt the Lord leading me that way. Esso handles
business very well and though most the artist on the label differed in
style from myself, I just thought it would be a good fit.

Konviction: In speaking with you briefly and doing basic interview preparation,
I discerned that there is a specific calling on your life beyond rap.
Can you elaborate on what your purpose is in ministry and where the
Lord is taking you over the next five years? How was Hip Hop been
integral in preparing you for this mission?

Json: My main heart is teaching. That’s what my heart burns for. I can seemyself in a pastoral role someday if the Lord sees fit. My plan is tobe a part of a church plant called The Gate located in Saint Louis in

the coming years. Through doing music I have seen abroad the need for
solid churches and discipleship.

Konviction: In listening to your music and being exposed to aspects of your
testimony, you certainly have a penchant for the streets. In your
opinion, what can we as ministers of the message of Christ, do to more
effectively engage urban communities with gospel? From a practical
perspective, what would you suggest for single parent women raising
males, as this is often the case.

Json: I think ultimately we need sound biblical church. We need believers
serving and in submission to those churches. Churches that are
preaching and living truth and making disciples. I believe this
directly connects with single parent mothers. Wiser men/women are able
to take those children under their wing and teach truth to those kids.
Provide lessons on manhood they would not otherwise receive from home.
The church should be the hub for these situations. This is exactly
what gangs and hoods are to these young individuals.

Konviction: Are you a City Light homey?? Explain the concept of your most
recent project for us from a biblical perspective. How does this
project compare to previous ones? From a creative and musical
perspective, are there things you still desire to accomplish
musically? Be specific as possible. Tell us what's coming up musically
and what we can expect from you futuristically.

Json: Definitely. LOL I still am. The concept just came from the idea of
being lights to the world and refusing to hide that light. City Lights
was the first time I was able to fully express my burden for the
environment I have come from. It was not an attempt to teach people to
be a light but to show people my desire to be one in hopes it would
encourage the same. Musically a lot will be different as you will see
with the new album, Growing Pains which will release Feb 21st, 2012.

Konviction: Tell us about the new album Growing Pains?

Json: Honestly, Growing Pains is more than a album to me. It’s more so my
last year of life on record. This is the most therapeutic and
practical album I have ever written. However it’s very different than
anything that I have done in the past. Musically it’s not a hard rough
bang-bang album. It’s more reflective and emotional and mature.
Growing Pains is everyday life for the Christian. The listener has to
come to this album expecting different but must approach with a mature
ear. I feel it’s my best work to date.

Konviction: In your opinion, how has Christian Hip Hop evolved over the last
couple of years? Who do you see on the horizon as an emerging artist
ready to make noise? ( I kno bruh. I'm tryin you! Lol.)

Json: I think its getting better sonically but of course still needs a lot
of work. It’s a lot of dudes killing it now. I’m feeling Bizzle and
K.B. just to name a couple. But I’m thankful for what we are able to
do man.

Konviction:. What are you currently reading, whether it be Bible,
Bible/Christian based, or otherwise, that you think will touch the
lives of other people? Please elaborate for us scholar!

Json: Currently I just read a book by Phanatik titles "City Of Allegory"
it’s a great book. It’s like a novel filled with biblical truth along
the lines of C.S. Lewis. In the Bible I’m currently reading 1 Peter.

Konviction: Are there any parting words for the people? Where can they reach
you? Any free music? Downloads, video clips, etc.? Holla at us!
