"We are tying up some loose ends," Meggs said Friday morning. "Hopefully, we will have a quiet day."
Meggs said he is taking a very deliberative approach because of the high-profile nature of the case and the scrutiny his decision is sure to receive.
"I'm going to try to have all of our I's dotted and T's crossed," he said. "Hopefully, don't overlook anything we could do."
On Thursday, Meggs said he planned to meet with his staff to determine what else must be done before deciding whether to press charges against Winston in the sexual-battery investigation.
"We're still investigating the case, and hopefully we'll have a decision about what we're going to do in the very near future," Meggs told reporters. "We have made a lot of progress this week. We've worked pretty diligently on it. We've interviewed and talked to a lot of people."
But Meggs said his office will speak with the woman who accused Winston of sexually battering her before making a final determination.
"We obviously have to talk to our victim before we do anything." he said. "We will be speaking to our victim. What day is another story. Soon, hopefully."
