Well, it's new year's eve, and we're wrapping up another year of daily devotionals.
we're so thankful the lord has allowed us to help shape his kingdom by making these daily devotionals.
He could do this all by himself, but instead, our father in heaven wants us (including you) to be about his work. He wants us there with him brick by brick. That's the God we serve, an ever-present one, one who wants to be fully engaged with us as we fully engage with him. So I bet you're thinking the verse today will probably be about fruits we see in service to the lord, right?
I mean,Ii just told you about all the amazing things the lord has been doing in our team and allowing us to do. time for a curveball.
Proverbs 11:18 says this: "ill-gotten treasures have no lasting value, "but righteousness delivers from death."
How in the world could I equate putting a video online that teaches people about God's word as ill-gotten treasure? Simple.
If we are getting our value from the product we create, that's ill-gotten gain. Yeah, the verse in Proverbs talks about taking something that isn't yours, but that's not always a physical thing. When I serve the lord and make something for his kingdom and turn around and use it as my validation or my glory, that is stealing. That glory belongs to him, not me. And here's the worst thing about it: that kind of glory will not last.
It will leave me burnt out, angry, and eventually bitter at the god who wants a relationship with me. That's why proverbs 11:18 ends with this:
"but righteousness delivers from death."
that righteousness doesn't come from serving the lord.
It comes from God the father, God the son, and God the holy spirit. This righteousness paid
for on the cross, we don't deserve, we didn't earn, but still, the lover of our souls has given us this great gift.
That is the only righteousness that saves us from ourselves and our sin. so, as we start a new year, please remember this every second. Repeat it over and over in your hearts because it's the gospel. It's everything we need, whether you've been walking with the lord your entire life or you're just starting. Happy New Year's Eve, everybody!
