leo-dicaprio-as-joker

Warner Bros. made a splash last week when it was announced that Todd Phillips (The Hangover) would be directing a new movie about the Joker. While Jared Leto’s Suicide Squad incarnation of the character is due to appear in multiple upcoming movies (both a proper sequel and a spin-off with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn) this one would be something else, with a different actor playing the Clown Prince of Crime. According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, the actor being eyed for this non-Leto Joker might be none other than Leonardo DiCaprio.

If Warner Bros. is pursuing DiCaprio as the Joker, that might explain why the actor’s longtime collaborator Martin Scorsese is rumored to be attached to the project as well. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Sources say Warners will make an ambitious attempt to use Scorsese to bring Leonardo DiCaprio into the world of comic-book movies.” Both DiCaprio and Scorsese have mostly avoided blockbuster fare during their careers, but now that both have their Oscars, maybe that could change. (Per THR, no official talks are happening yet between the studio and star.)

Representatives for DiCaprio and Scorsese could not be reached for comment, and Warner Bros. declined to comment on the speculation.
