Store shelves are stocked full of school supplies, waiting for parents, guardians, and students to come in with their supply lists for the upcoming year. But for many, the thought of purchasing supplies can bring some anxiety.

According to a 2015 article in Idaho State Journal, the average cost for purchasing school supplies is $70. While that may not seem like a lot, if you have multiple children, those dollars add up quickly. What is a parent to do when the budget is tight, but the supplies need to be purchased?

Tara Lewis’ son, Tyran Bell, came up with an answer. When he realized that his family was having some financial difficulties, Tyran went to his mother and offered to cut lawns in order to earn money to help with the purchase of school supplies. Lewis got the ball rolling by posting on Facebook.

Theresa Babb, owner of A1 Security Services, saw the post and thought it was noble of Tyran to get out in the 100+ degree temperatures and work to earn the money, so she decided to help. She shared the post on various web pages and then designated space in her office to collect supplies for Tyran as well as his 14-year-old brother, Jhamir.

The response has been great. Supplies have been collected for Tyran, Jhamir, and other children in need.

Just because the supplies on the list have been checked off doesn’t mean that Tyran gave up on his original mission of earning money.
