LEN'S LINES --A Little Religion On A Positive Note By Len Granger

As Christians, we are all familiar with God's Word the Bible, which we read daily to keep us close to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The word Bible comes from the Greek word " biblios " which means book; however, it is a collection of books. It is God's written divine communication to us that covers all aspects of our lives here on the earth as we strive to serve him.

God's Bible is made of 66 books which were written by 40 different authors over a period of 1,600 years. The authors were not the Kings or Rulers as we think of great men today, but were in most cases just ordinary men. They included a wide range of people from Jewish Kings, peasants, prophets, poets, scholars, businessmen, a doctor, a missionary and even fishermen.

The Bible comes in two sections, the Old Testament mostly written in Hebrew which was completed almost 400 years before God sent his Son to save the world. We read in Bible verse John 3:17, " For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved." The New Testament, about our Lord Jesus Christ who lived a few short years on the earth. is written in the Greek language of the day. Our King James Bible, now over 400 years old, is translated from these original languages and has been printed and distributed to the whole world.

It is interesting to see the word "Testament" actually means "covenant" which is an agreement between two parties, according to the dictionary. The Old Testament is a record of God's covenants with man --- as it points to the coming of God's Son Jesus, to save the world. The New Testament is the Record, given by many authors, that write of our Lord's fulfillment of his covenant and the shedding of his precious blood as the "Sacrificial Lamb " so we could be forgiven of our sins and become a part of God's family.

We read of God's purpose, which he told Godly men across the ages to record in his Bible. YES, God's purpose is to provide a saving grace to all men both Jewish and Gentiles. Therefore, the Bible has a central theme throughout both the Old and New Testaments, telling of the coming and life of our gracious and loving Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who offers His saving grace to the world for those that accept and worship him.

Trust this Sunday, we will all be in the church of our choice singing and worshiping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who his father sent to save the world.

God Bless America
