Brinson "NO OTHER HEROES" At The Oracle

911795-heroimage1.jpg

Album Summary

Superheroes dominate pop culture. From blockbuster summer movies to Halloween costume choices – kids and adults want to identify themselves with humans who exhibit supernatural abilities sacrificially used for the benefit of others. With his third studio album, Florida rapper/producer Brinson aims to proclaim that there are No Other Heroes. The only heroes the world will see is us as Jesus' representatives.

He emphasizes this idea through an album filled with a variety of hip hop, street anthem, and dance hits. No Other Heroes’first single, “3D Standout,” features Stellar-nominated singer Jai (Trip Lee’s “Hero”) over a synth-driven beat. It forms the background for Brinson’s raps about his desire to live a fully rendered life visualized by God’s redemptive love for others.

The party continues with the energetically joyous “Hit the Floor” (just wait until you see the song’s video treatment) and “Not Too Far” – an 80’s pop-inspired offering featuring vocals from Rossi and NBC’s “The Voice” contestant Niki Dawson.

“Bodyguard” also resonates the album’s hero theme when Brinson and friends celebrate the safety they find in Christ. And later, storytelling dominates tracks like “Gold” and “Shoulda Told ‘Em.”

The album ends with a radio-ready mash-up of rap and worship called “I Am Yours” that is sure to be a Sunday-morning and Christian radio favorite. Finally, No Other Heroes includes the bonus track “Tebowin” - a hip hop tribute to NFL quarterback (and vocal Christ-follower) Tim Tebow that was featured on ESPN.com.

To those of my fellow evangelicals who are on the religious right, please, stop your fake trumpeting of biblical values if you're going to run roughshod over your biblical convictions and let your partisan views take center stage.

When Mitt Romney was running for the GOP presidential nomination, many on the religious right were highly critical of his faith. The Southern Baptist Convention and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association characterized Mormonism as a cult.
But Billy Graham's association scrubbed that view from its website in the wake of the Rev. Graham meeting with Romney. And at least one prominent Southern Baptist leader who called Mormonism a cult has put that aside in order to endorse the Republican nominee.
Graham, "America's pastor," has run full-page ads in national newspapers like the Washington Post and USA Today that are thinly veiled endorsements of Romney. In them, he shows he has forgotten big portions of biblical teaching.
The ads read: "I believe it is vitally important that we cast our ballots for candidates who base their decisions on biblical principles and support the nation of Israel. I urge you to vote for those who protect the sanctity of life and support the biblical definition of marriage between a man and a woman."
In a similar full-page ad that ran in Ohio's Columbus Dispatch on Sunday, Graham said: "We are at a crossroads and there are profound moral issues at stake. ... Please join me in praying for America, that we will turn out hearts back toward God."
Graham is urging Americans to vote for candidates who base their decisions on "biblical principles," "support the nation of Israel," "protect the sanctity of life," and "support the biblical definition of marriage between a man and a woman."
That's it. Nothing else.

Apple Announces The New iPad Mini!!

Apple has announced the iPad Mini, the long-rumored challenger to Google's Nexus 7 and Amazon's Kind Fire tablets.

Apple has announced the iPad Mini, a smaller version of its full-size tablet, putting an end to months of rumors concerning the device. After Tim Cook talked at length about the iPad’s success in education, and a revised iPad was introduced, Phil Schiller took to the stage to reveal the new, smaller model.

The device is 53-percent thinner than the full-size iPad, and just 7.2mm thick. It has a design that looks closer to the iPhone 5 than the existing iPad in the pictures, and features a 7.9-inch display with a 1024 x 768 pixel resolution and a pixel density of 163ppi.

To differentiate the iPad Mini from the competition, Phil Schiller spoke about the new tablet having an aluminum chassis instead of plastic, and how the larger display shows 50-percent more content than a 7-inch display when viewing the web.

Inside is a dual-core A5 processor, a battery offering 10-hours of use and a 4G LTE radio, while outside is a 5-megapixel camera, an HD FaceTime camera and a Lightning connector. The operating system is still iOS 6, and apps designed for the iPhone will upscale to fit the larger screen.

r620-84f514be2919caaac8f883c5c0c2cc9b.jpgThe first of a dozen defendants to be sentenced in last year's hazing death of a Florida A&M drum major avoided jail time when he received his punishment Monday, but he will spend more than two years under close supervision.

Brian Jones was given six months of community control, which strictly limits his freedom with measures including frequent check-ins with probation officials. Following that, the 23-year-old from Parrish, Fla., will serve another two years of probation. He's also required to perform 200 hours of community service.

Judge Marc Lubet said Jones's role in the hazing death of Robert Champion was relatively minimal and that Jones did not beat or hit Champion. Champion died last November after being beaten by fellow band members during a hazing ritual aboard a bus parked outside an Orlando hotel after a football game.
"This young man's part in this horrible act ... as compared with many others from what I've seen is minimal," Lubet said. "It was an isolated incident in this man's life for which he's shown remorse."
Defense attorney Alisia Adamson noted that only two of the 90 witnesses even said he was on the bus.
Eleven other band members are awaiting trial on felony hazing charges, while another band member faces a misdemeanor hazing count.
Jones had entered a no-contest plea Oct. 9 to the third-degree felony hazing charge after initially pleading not guilty. The maximum penalty for the charge was five years in prison.
Champion's parents and friends say the drum major was a vocal opponent of hazing, but finally relented last November and got aboard "Bus C," which was known for hazing.
Pam and Robert Champion Sr. both attended Monday's sentencing.
Speaking directly to Jones, Pam Champion challenged the idea that his role had been minor, saying: "You and I know that's not true. You played a critical role."
She carried a picture of Champion with her to the podium before she spoke.
"You won't be able to put it out if your mind...It will haunt you," she told Jones.
Jones said in a recorded audio statement with investigators that he was on the bus when another hazing victim - Lissette Sanchez - went through the ritual. But Jones told police that he only retrieved his lighter and left to smoke, getting off the bus before Champion got on.
The defendant's mother, Jacqueline Jones, told the court that her son was an honest person and that "he shared with me he had nothing to do with it."
Brian Jones tearfully apologized to the Champion family in court.
"No family should have to go through what you've gone through," he said.
After the sentencing, Pam Champion said she gave Jones credit for "taking responsibility" in the case.
"Initially my reaction was disappointment, but I do understand," she said. "The mere fact that Brian stepped up and took the initiative, which should be what everyone does ... is basically what we're looking for. The whole thing is people being accountable for what they have done."
She also said she'd be open to him speaking about his experience as part of the Robert D. Champion Drum Major for Change Foundation that she started last year fight hazing.
"I do respect the law, I don't always agree with it," Robert Champion Sr. said. "But Mr. Jones did step up. The law made the charges and I agree with it if they say it was right."
Champion was seeking the top position in the famed marching band, leading dozens who had already endured the hazing ritual. The Marching 100 has performed at Super Bowls and presidential inauguration parades, and some felt the leadership position had to be earned.
What awaited him was a punishing scrum in which about 15 people pushed, struck, kicked and grabbed at participants as they tried to wade down the aisle from the bus's driver seat to touch the back wall, according to interviews with investigators. One witness said bigger band members waited at the back to make the final few steps the most difficult during the "crossing over" portion of the hazing process.
Several others who went through it said the ordeal leaves participants dizzy and breathless at a minimum. After finishing the ordeal, Champion vomited and complained of trouble breathing. He soon fell unconscious and couldn't be revived.

Upon entering the workforce, people are told to not take their jobs home with them. In spite of these warnings, most people have at least some difficult separating their homes lives from their work lives. The human mind is bad at forgetting about the stresses of work, but it is important to spend one’s free time disconnecting from what happens at the office. Here are six tips for balancing life and work.

1) Consider happiness a part of working effectively

When it comes to workaholics, one of the best ways to enjoy free time is to treat it is a necessary step for working well. Studies have consistently shown that relaxation is crucial for keeping the mind sharp, so people should view their time off of work as a period for resting and recharging. By making fun time a critical element of succeeding at work, many people are able to relax a bit more.

2) Encourage your mind to relax

The human mind is stubborn, and it often wanders to areas seemingly on its own. In many cases, the mind wanders to stresses encountered while at work. One way to combat this is to make note when your mind begin to think about work and focus on something else. By telling yourself that it is okay to think about work but that you would rather not at the moment, it may be possible to train the mind to think about other tasks.

3) Pick up a hobby

Often, people spend their time at home watching television and browsing the Internet aimlessly. As a result, they often have little passion outside of work. While work is important, it can also help to have other passions in life aside from work and family. A hobby such as restoring a car or starting a collection can give your mind something else to focus on during the day.

4) Take vacations

It is important to get away from one’s normal surroundings. While homes can be a great sanctuary, it helps to leave them for even short periods of time. Even a day hike is a valuable break that allows the mind to reset itself a bit. Vacations do not have to be long or expensive, and the important key is to simply detach from one’s common surroundings.

5) Exercise

While many people view exercise as a strenuous chore, it is actually a great relief that most people end up enjoying after a short period of time. The best form of exercise is the one that you enjoy the most, so take some time and find a fun way to spend your time while exerting yourself. Any exercise that gets the heart pumping slightly faster than usual is effective, and only 15-minutes of exercise is necessary to reap tremendous health benefits. Aside from the physical benefits, exercise also leads to great mental relief as well.

6) Ignore your inbox

Smart phones and email have revolutionized how business is done. As a result, people have access to their business information regardless of their location. Unfortunately, this has caused many to have trouble ignoring work messages while at hope. If your job allows it, ignore your emails while you are at home. Even quick checks can make it difficult to disconnect and stop thinking about work. If you are expected to answer emails while at home, ensure that you are properly compensated.

ipad-with-ipad-mini.jpg?w=190Apple's iPad mini is almost certainly set to be announced next week at an event in San Jose Tuesday, and we're now hearing that it will ship a week and a half after that unveiling. November 2 is the ship date we've heard today from a source close to Apple's supply chain, echoing an earlier report by Geeky Gadgets that that's the day the iPad mini will go on sale.

Geeky Gadgets cited a prominent U.K. retailer as the source of its information. For the iPhone 5, the September 21 retail availability date was telegraphed ahead of time thanks to leaked information from carrier partners, and retailers have been a source of Apple-related product leaks in the past. Our own source has also previously proven reliable with unreleased Apple info.
In addition to our own source and Geeky Gadgets, 9to5Mac also tweeted that it was hearing this was the date it would be released and likely hit the first batch of pre-order buyers. It's also the most logical choice, given Apple's recent product announcement and release timelines. For the iPhone 5, Apple announced it on September 12, with pre-orders beginning on September 14 and devices shipping and hitting retail stores September 21. Pre-orders for the latest iPad started immediately following its announcement, and the iPad actually shipped only nine days later, however, so it isn't yet clear whether the iPad mini's pre-order date will be the same day as the announcement, or the Friday following, and our source had no information in that area.

4_3_r560.jpgThere will surely be many more to come, these Eli Manning vs. Robert Griffin III matchups.

And if so, the NFL is in for quite the treat because Round 1 -- a 27-23 victory for Manning's New York Giants over Griffin's Washington Redskins -- was nothing short of incredible.
It will be Manning's 77-yard touchdown pass to Victor Cruz over cornerback Josh Wilson and safety Madieu Williams, combined with Chase Blackburn's forced fumble on wide receiver Santana Moss on the ensuing drive, that will go down as making the difference.
But none will forget the 77-yard drive Griffin led shortly before those events, especially not the amazing scramble-and-throw on fourth-and-10, when he escaped from Jason Pierre-Paul and eventually threw the ball to Logan Paulsen for 19 yards, a first down and new life. On the next play, Griffin escaped to his right for a 24-yard run around end that extended the drive.
Two snaps later, he laid a perfect ball on the hands on Moss and over Giants rookie Jayron Hosley for a 30-yard score that was a potential game-winner.
Griffin, who sparked a trend called "Griffining" with the Week 1 sight of his sitting down and raising his hands in the air after a touchdown against the New Orleans Saints, struck a new pose after this one. As he was lying on his back, he brought his hands over his face.

a-different-kind-of-christian-OBAMA.jpg

President Obama is not just a racial trailblazer, but some say a racial pioneer as well. No president has ever shared his type of Christianity, historians say. Some say he may revive a form of Christianity that once dominated America.
President Barack Obama was sharing a pulpit one day with a conservative Christian leader when a revealing exchange took place.
Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback, a conservative Christian who has taken public stands against abortion and same-sex marriage, had joined Obama for an AIDS summit. They were speaking before a conservative megachurch filled with white evangelicals.
When Brownback rose to speak, he joked that he had joined Obama earlier at an NAACP meeting where Obama was treated like Elvis and he was virtually ignored. Turning to Obama, a smiling Brownback said, "Welcome to my house!"
The audience exploded with laughter and applause. Obama rose, walked before the congregation and then declared:
"There is one thing I have to say, Sam. This is my house, too. This is God's house."
Historians may remember Obama as the nation's first black president, but he's also a religious pioneer. He's not only changed people's perception of who can be president, some scholars and pastors say, but he's also expanding the definition of who can be a Christian by challenging the religious right's domination of the national stage.
When Obama invoked Jesus to support same-sex marriage, framed health care as a moral imperative to care for "the least of these,'' and once urged people to read their Bible but just not literally, he was invoking another Christian tradition that once dominated American public life so much that it gave the nation its first megachurches, historians say.
"Barack Obama has referred to his faith more times than most presidents ever have, but for many it's the wrong kind of faith," says Jim Wallis, head of Sojourners, an evangelical activist group based in Washington that focuses on poverty and social justice issues.
"It is not the faith of the religious right. It's about things that they don't talk about. It's about how the Bible is full of God's clear instruction to care for the poor."
Some See a 'Different' Kind of Christian
Obama is a progressive Christian who blends the emotional fire of the African-American church, the ecumenical outlook of contemporary Protestantism, and the activism of the Social Gospel, a late 19th-century movement whose leaders faulted American churches for focusing too much on personal salvation while ignoring the conditions that led to pervasive poverty.
No other president has shared the hybrid faith that Obama displays, says Diana Butler Bass, a historian and author of "Christianity after Religion."
"The kind of faith that Obama articulates is not the sort of Christianity that's understood by the media or by a large swath of Christians in the U.S.," says Bass, a progressive Christian. "He's a different kind of Christian, and the media and the public awareness needs to reawaken to that fact."
Some Christians, however, still see Obama as the "other." He doesn't act or talk like other Christians, says the Rev. Gary Cass, a conservative Christian president of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission.
"I just don't see or hear in his accounts the kind of things that I've heard as a minister for over 25 years coming from the mouths of people who have genuinely converted to Christianity," says Cass, pastor of Christ Church in San Diego.
Cass says he's never heard Obama say he's "born-again." There's no emotional conversion story to hang onto.
Obama talks about his faith and attends church, but Cass says that doesn't mean he's a Christian.
"Joining a church doesn't mean you're a Christian. "You can put me in the garage, but that doesn't turn me into a car."

Venus Williams Wins Luxembourg Open

venus-williams-of-the-USA-smile.jpg

Venus Williams of the USA flashes a smile after defeating Monica Niculescu of Romania on Sunday to capture the Luxembourg Open. (Geert Vanden Wijngaert, AP)
Venus Williams won her first WTA tournament in more than two years Sunday, beating Monica Niculescu of Romania 6-2, 6-3 to take the Luxembourg Open title.
Slowed for two seasons by injuries and illness, Williams showed she still had the winning touch and played steady tennis while Niculescu proved error-prone as she sought her first career title.
At 32, Williams won her 44th singles title in a career that includes seven Grand Slams.
For Niculescu, ranked No. 70, it was the second loss in the Luxembourg Open final in a row.
Williams, now ranked No. 41, had not won a tournament since early 2010, when she took the titles in Dubai and Acapulco in short order.
Throughout the 1 hour, 22 minute match, Williams rarely looked in trouble, taking the early initiative and never letting go.
For a player who relies strongly on her serve, she was successful on only 63 percent of her first serves and didn't manage a single ace on the indoor hard-courts at CK Sportcenter Kockelsheuer. She was much more solid in her backcourt game as Niculescu looked hesitant from the start and failed to get any momentum going.
The victory was a welcome turnaround for Williams, who has been struggling for several years from an autoimmune disease, which often left her fatigued and with painful joints.
She only started her season in March following a seven-month layoff because of the illness. And even then, it often was a slog through the summer in singles play, as she struggled to capture the style and power of old.
In doubles, she did shine when she won a 13th Grand Slam doubles title at Wimbledon with sister Serena and then made it a repeat performance at the London Olympics a month later.
That form did not rub off in singles play though. She hasn't made it past the fourth round of a Grand Slam since the 2010 U.S. Open and among the fans speculation over potential retirement started making the rounds.
Williams would have none of it. The first signs of improvement came when she reached the semifinals in Cincinnati in the run-up to the U.S. Open despite some back problems.
She was ousted in the second round at the U.S. Open, but in her first tournament since, she finally ended her title drought.

Mitt Romney came to the beach here Sunday for the start of a flag football game between his staff and members of the traveling press, as President Barack Obama extended an invitation to Washington Redskins star Robert Griffin III for a game at the White House.
"Robert, you're welcome at my house for a pickup game anytime," Obama said in a pre-recorded video message that aired on Fox.
Romney also praised the rookie quarterback in a separate video message that the network aired ahead of the Redskins' game against the New York Giants in East Rutherford, N.J.
"RGIII hasn't been in Washington very long, but he's already created change," Romney said. "RGIII has really struck a chord with sports fans - uniting Democrats and Republicans."
"It's tough to unite this city around anything. Believe me, I know," Obama added. "But RGIII makes it look easy."
Both presidential candidates suggested they're rooting for the Redskins to defeat the defending Super Bowl champions.
"I wish him the best of luck in New York today," said Romney. "When he's on the field, anything can happen."
"He's a great young man and a heck of a lot of fun to watch, and I wish him all the luck in the world - except when he plays the Bears," Obama said.
Though the Giants won the Super Bowl last season, they lost twice to the Redskins in the regular season. The Redskins are 3-3 this year, and the Giants are 4-2.
Griffin was asked if he might consider getting into politics someday.
"Maybe the 45-year-old me will want to get into that, but right now I'm going to stick to football," the 22-year-old said, laughing.

220px-Nicolas_Cage_2011_CC.jpgWhat do Civil War vampire Nicolas Cage and Christian evangelist Kirk Cameron have in common? Well, if things work out, they will have both played Cameron "Buck" Williams in the Left Behind series.
Nicolas Cage is eyeing the lead in a big screen remake of this Christian-themed end of the world thriller from writers Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. This will be the first theatrical feature from faith-oriented production company Stoney Lake Entertainment.
With a projected budget of $15 million, this reboot of the series will shoot in early spring with a projected release date of Fall 2013. Samuel Goldwyn Films is releasing the film theatrically.
The story will follow a group of survivors who are left behind after the biblical rapture. The original trilogy became the highest grossing Christian-themed franchise ever produced.
Expect Eric Roberts and Jeffrey Dean Morgan to sign on in the very near future, and lets pray that we at least get a Kirk Cameron cameo somewhere in the film.
Left Behind was released in 2001 and stars Kirk Cameron, Brad Johnson, Janaya Stephens, Clarence Gilyard Jr., Colin Fox, Gordon Currie, Chelsea Noble, Daniel Pilon. The film is directed by Vic Sarin.
