The University of California, Los Angeles says it’s turning down $3 million pledged by Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling and will return the $425,000 installment he’s already made.

UCLA announced the move on Tuesday, saying Sterling’s “divisive and hurtful comments demonstrate that he does not share UCLA’s core values.”

The NBA on Tuesday banned Sterling for life and fined him $2.5 million for making racist remarks.

UCLA says Sterling recently had pledged the $3 million to support basic kidney research by its Division of Nephrology.
