Inspired living means being nourished by the living water, the Lord provides. In John 4:10, Jesus introduced this subject to the woman at the well. "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water."

This is the reference to living water most of us remember. In Scripture, however, there is much about water. One cannot exist without water; it sustains life. Water has special significance. In Scripture it is used to indicate the spiritual care God provides for his children. It indicates the strengthening and nourishing the righteous receive.

In Psalms 1:1-3 the strengthening of the righteous is likened to how a tree is given nourishment from a stream of water near its roots.

When the word of God is read and meditated on regularly, it gives renewed life to the spiritual part of mankind. It is through Bible knowledge and the guidance of his Spirit in each of us, that the spiritual nourishing takes place.

Throughout the Bible, we are promised that the Lord will strengthen his people: This nourishment is for all the righteous: The Creator continually searches for those who are fully committed to him so that he can strengthen them (2 Chronicles 16:9).

When "living" is added to "water" the combination takes on eternal connotations. God is the source of living water. Our desire is to please him, to have a heavenly thirst for his blessings. Our soul thirsts for the Lord as one in a dry and weary land with no water (Psalms 63:1).

To forsake living water is to forsake God. "My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water"(Jeremiah 2:13). The idols they worshiped were as useless as a well without water.

When Jesus spoke about living water to the woman at the well in, he was not merely improvising to bring a spiritual lesson to fit the conversation; he was also expounding upon a truth taught throughout the Bible.

He assured us indeed, the water I give will become a spring of water welling up to eternal life. The Spirit of Christ lives in us-he constitutes the spring within us.

The dimensions of the heavenly love are beyond our comprehension since it is unlimited. No one can fill in the numbers describing the love that created and sustains us. The important thing to grasp is that the Lord has pulled out all the stops in his efforts to save us. His grace is sufficient for the greatest of sinners. The water that is supplied has everything covered.

If you have trouble understanding the living water that Jesus offers, you need to spend more time reading the Bible. You probably do not have any idea about where to start, and you need the book "Climbing the Heavenly Stairs." It gets you acquainted with the Godhead and points out important information.
