Robert Griffin III, cleared by doctors and his coach to begin practicing as the Washington Redskins open training camp on Thursday, doesn't have to say I told you so.
For weeks, the rehabbing star quarterback declared that as a milestone goal on the comeback trail from reconstructive knee surgery.
Now that it's a reality -- Griffin will participate in a limited fashion while gradually working back in form on his surgically repaired ACL and LCL -- he is in no mood to crow about it.
"No time to feel proud," RG3 told USA TODAY Sports in a text message. "Just more work and winning to do."
Griffin is due to report to the Redskins' camp in Richmond, Va., with the rest of the veterans on Wednesday. It's expected that he will take a full load of repetitions in seven-on-seven drills, while being held out of full-squad, 11-on-11, drills until further notice.
His mood?
"Feeling blessed and overjoyed," Griffin responded.
After Griffin was given the thumbs-up by surgeon James Andrews, who examined the quarterback on consecutive days last week, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan signed off on the quarterback's return after a workout at the team's headquarters on Monday. Shanahan put Griffin through a series of quarterback-specific drills.
Griffin tweeted the news of his status on Monday.
Reached by USA TODAY Sports, he answered a few questions via text messages.
Has his rehab been tougher mentally or physically?
"It has been both mentally and physically taxing," he wrote, "but worth it."
