There are so many muticultural cities around the world with people from many nationalities living together, but unfortunately there can be an informal hierarchy imposed on newcomers. This unspoken racism keeps people from feeling welcomed or valued. The Apostle Paul spoke against this kind of division in his letter to the Church at Ephesus. another kind of pecking order had developed between the jewish people and the gentiles for Christ was first revealed to the jewish people, then to the gentiles, and thus the gentiles were seen as second-class believers.
Paul exposed that lie saying in Ephesians, 2:19
``you are no longer foreigners and strangers , but fellow citizens, with god's people, and also members of his household .''
in that culture, foreigners and strangers were not valued as much as citizens. But Paul says that in christ there is no longer any division.
Jews and gentiles are one in Christ. They are all fellow citizens. What difference does this make to us now? A lot. We should be aware of unspoken divisions that raise one group of people above another, whether in our culture, our community place of work or school or home. Christ came to break down these dividing walls so that we could have unity with each other. When we realize we've sinned and need a savior, we start to see the fallacy of raising ourselves up over someone else. Why not spend some time thinking about the divisions you see around you and asking God to work on mending them? Perhaps he'll inspire you to be a part of the solution.
