Author, Rita Snowden tells a delightful story about visiting a small village in Dover England sitting outside of a cafe she became aware of the most beautiful of scents. Rita asked the waiter where it was coming from and was told it was from workers who were passing by. You see most of the villagers were employed at a nearby perfume factory when they left work. that scent would cover the entire town.
What A beautiful metaphor of the life in christ, as the Apostle Paul says in 2 Corinthians we are the aroma of Jesus spreading his fragrance of new life everywhere, as the grace hope and love of Jesus transforms us from the inside out. We begin to spread the aroma of Christ's greatness wherever we go.
According to Paul, we share the aroma of Christ through our words by telling others about the one who is beautiful and through the example of our lives, by doing deeds of Christ-like love. While not everyone is going to appreciate the divine fragrance we share, it will bring life to many.
Rita Snowden caught a scent and was driven to seek its source. As we follow Jesus, let's become permeated with his fragrance and carry his aroma into our streets through our words and deeds.
