Daily Devotional: Rebellion

Daily Devotional: Rebellion

Warmer weather is coming and camping is on our ‘to do’ list.

We usually stay at state parks; most are very nice and with senior discounts we stay at bargain rates. My husband and I are not hiking enthusiasts but most parks do offer hiking trails.

Maybe you know someone who has hiked the Appalachian Trail. I read that it runs from Georgia to Maine and measures at 2100 hundred miles. (Wikipedia)

The Exodus of Israelites from Egypt to the Promised Land was reported to be over 1300 miles. (askinglot.com)

Their hike lasted for 40 years; it should have taken only 11 days.

Moses had led God’s children out of Egyptian bondage; yet, they rebelled against him and their heavenly Father. As a result, they hiked in the wilderness for decades.

“It is eleven days’ journey from Horeb by way of Mount Seir to Kadesh-barnea. In the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month, Moses spoke to the sons of Israel, in accordance with everything that the Lord had commanded him to declare to them (Deuteronomy 1:1-3 NASB).”

Rebellion came at a high cost.

Only 2 faithful leaders (of adults who left Egypt) would enter the land of milk and honey.

“By no means will you come into the land where I swore to settle you, except for Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun. Your children, however, whom you said would become plunder—I will bring them in, and they will know the land which you have rejected (Numbers 14:30-31 NASB).”
