Daily Devotional: Life in the Spotlight | Matthew 5:16 |

My name is Clark Kellogg. If you were to turn on a college basketball game, there's a good chance, you'd see or hear me analyzing the action I have, what our culture calls a platform or spotlight and yes, you could even call me a small celebrity. This platform came to me due to God-given natural ability in the game of basketball, my own hard work, but also there was countless people, family, friends, coaches who helped propel me to the level of success I've enjoyed in the game of basketball. I'm extremely grateful for that.

As a matter of fact, I don't think I can ever repay the game or those people for what they gave me.

But I want you to imagine something for me right now. What if I'd, never used the physical talent, the God-given ability that came from God? What, if I had just kind of put it off to the side, hid it on a shelf, covered it up and allowed it to collect dust? I don't think I would've made it to being a college scholarship athlete at ohio state.

I don't think I would've made it to being a draft choice with the Indiana Pacers. I wouldn't be able to have credibilty in telling you this. Jesus says in Matthew 5:16,

“Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl, but instead they put it on its stand,`` and it gives light to everybody in the house.

It's the same way. He wants our light to shine before others, the light he places in us as followers of his. What good is a light if it's not giving off light and glory to those in the presence of that light, so our lives is to reflect the light of God through Christ in us and it's to reflect his glory to others.

So you know what hiding or covering up the light, whether it's a lamp or the light of christ. That's in us is kind of crazy right.

What's the point in that, I'm not the only one with a platform, there are platforms everywhere and you have one as a Christ follower and you don't have to be in front of a TV set. You don't have to have cameras around or fame in order to use the platform. God has given you so as followers of christ jesus you and I are on isolated camera with our friends, our neighbors and our communities.

They are always watching. We have an incredible opportunity to not just talk about Jesus, but to show who Jesus is in us to those in our circle of influence, and we do that not only with our words but with our actions and deeds as well. And believe me, the whole world is watching us and waiting to see how the glory of the lord will shine through us, whether they realize it or not? so, how do we do this in practical ways? I don't think we do it by our strength or might.

We don't do it by beating up our Bibles or putting our Bibles on top of other people's heads. We do it by abiding in christ by surrendering to the lordship christ. So today, if you're watching the NCAA tournament, remember the platform, christ gives you it's a whole lot bigger than you think.

Use it don't hide it don't waste it take advantage of it and then see what god does through your life. He can do far more than we ask or imagine, because he's god and he loves us.
