Hebrews 12:1 says, “Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,”
Jesus says, "Come to Me...Take my yoke upon you." In this verse of Matthew 11:28, Jesus invites all who labor and are heavy laden to come unto him, take his yoke upon them, and learn of him, in short, to follow Him. Once you become saved and born again, the Bible tells us that you have now become a new creation in Jesus Christ. There are many kinds of loads, or burdens you are carrying. Some are physical, while others are spiritual or emotional and not as easy to see. Many unseen burdens can exceed your strength to bear them alone you become weary. But the Lord can lighten your burdens and bring you rest when you let them go.
Making Jesus Lord over your life means that you are now willing to turn the reins of your life over to Him, and He will now lead your life into the specific directions He will want it to go in. You have been bought back by God the Father at the price of His Son’s shed blood. You now belong to God and Jesus and no one else in this life which includes yourself, your family, and friends. Before you can move forward into the divine destiny that God has in store for you in this life, you may have to deal with some specific things that you may have carried that are not from God. Before an eagle of God can start to fly into the heights that God has in store for them in this life that eagle has got to break off any chains that may be holding them back. These chains are keeping some of God’s eagles grounded. And for many of God’s eagles, some of these chains are things they are still holding onto from their past. Jesus has said that He has come to set the captives free and one of the main areas that you have to be set free from is the baggage you carry that is not from God. Jesus says that anyone who is trying to move forward in his walk and call from God but keeps looking back is not fit for the kingdom of God. You have to learn how to fully let go of the things you treasure in your life before you can start to proceed full steam ahead in your divine destiny for the Lord. When you do not learn how to let go of your past fully, you will stay stuck and grounded right where you are, and you will never fully accomplish everything that God would’ve had in store for you in this life. God wants you to let go of the things of this world so you can be fully aware of what He has in store for you in this life. God is not expecting you to make this kind of quantum leap overnight, especially if your past hurts have been extreme and traumatic. One of the things I have found out in my journey with the Lord is what happens after you initially enter into this full surrender with Him. He will show you where He was at and where He was not at on certain things in your life. The things that may have happened to you were as a result of you making your own decisions without consulting God first, not being aware of the dangers that were around that corner you were getting ready to turn into. When God begins to do this kind of deeper inner work within you, allowing Him to shed light on the things you are carrying, he shows you the truth on many of the different matters of your past.
There is nothing the Lord can not handle, God can fully heal you and break off any past chain if you are willing to believe that He can do it for you. You might be bound up with false chains of guilt as a result of some of the sexual molestations that may have occurred in your dysfunctional family. God can fully break these types of chains off you, no matter how bad or how severe you think they may be. The Holy Spirit is the Master Surgeon. He is the One who will be getting down deep into where these hurts and pains are located. When you are willing to work and cooperate with Him during this inner healing process, He will be able to cut out and completely take away most, if not all of the hurt, pain, and trauma associated with some of these painful events. God desires His people to let go of past circumstances, unpleasant history, and lame excuses.
