Daily Devotional: DON'T QUIT | Trust God When Times Are Hard!

Many times in life, we are faced with different challenges. This life comes with its own pressures in every sphere. Sometimes, you might seem to have failed in what you want to do. And right there you are. A downcast. A laughing stock. Your friends chose to leave you. Then when you turn around, you find nobody but yourself. This is a typical description of someone who has lost everything or something that he holds dear. What am I saying? There are things that you have to accept. For instance, you being denied that job offer. You were all dressed up and confident that you will pass that job interview. In fact, they smiled at you and gave you various components, yet, they said NO. Or you failed that course. You prepared so hard for it and you were sure that you would pass. However, you were very disappointed when you found out that you failed such a course.

Maybe yours is even an assignment given to you by God. But you're frustrated and too tired to keep moving. All those you thought would aid your ministry slowly left you hanging. Your friends all deserted you or maybe the assignment isn't moving as it should or not producing the fruits that it should... Do you give up? No!

Now, it is very easy to put yourself down. It is very easy to put all the blame on yourself and focus only on what you did wrong, on how you were not good enough, on how you did not meet up to the standards. This will only make you depressed. This will only weigh you down and make you see how not competent you are or you think that you are. It is understandable. All this was not your fault. In this write up, you will see practical ways of starting your life over again. By this, I do not mean erasing your memory and travelling to somewhere far away to start all over. That will be a nice idea though but what will you do when those challenges come again because they will come, as long as you are a human being with two feet. What you are about to see is simply how to recondition your mind to adapt to whatever has happened to you. Adaptation is one of the skills of living organisms, the ability to accept change. However, you can not only adapt but you can also become a stronger version of yourself. That is right. You can become better. You can become stronger because you use whatever life throws at you as a stepping stone to become better. That is the best tactic.

Every phase of life is faced with different questions and pressures. You might be tempted to be under pressure when you see you peers. You might hear things like, “Your mates are married, why are you still single? Your friend has given birth, we are still waiting for you etc.” You must learn how to shut out the noise of this world and choose not to worry about what people say or do not say. If you put yourself under unnecessary pressure, you will discover that you will only be living for the opinions of people which should not be. People change and their preferences change too. You can never get satisfaction from doing things as a result of peer pressure
Begin by changing your perspective about life generally. That is seeing the positive side of every seemingly bad situation. For example, if you ask a girl out and she tells you no, you can choose to see it as she does not know your worth, instead of beating yourself up that you are not good enough. It all comes down to one thing – how you perceive yourself. Not just how you perceive yourself but how God perceives you. God sees the best of you. When he looks at you, He does not see a sinner, an outcast or beggar or what you were once before. He sees you through His blood and the cross and the resurrection. He sees you victorious! YOU SHOULD SEE YOURSELF THE EXACT SAME WAY TOO. When you change what you think about yourself, it would be much easier to move on and start all over. How do you change your thinking? You do this by meditating on the word of God. You can do this daily. You can start with a scripture that speaks of who you are in Christ and what Christ has done for you. Say it to yourself. Meditation means that you are quietly thinking and pondering over words and in this case, you are pondering over God’s word.
