The fast food chain Chick-fil-A sent out an email to customers promoting National Sandwich Day – even though its restaurants are closed on that same day.

The annual day falls this year on November 3, which is this coming Sunday.

But Chick-fil-A is famous not just for its popular chicken sandwiches but also for its longstanding policy of closing on Sunday.

The Georgia-based company sent another email to customers apologizing for the confusion.

‘We recently sent an email that included a message about National Sandwich Day, which naturally we were very excited about,’ the email reads.

‘We didn’t realize it falls on Sunday when we are closed. We apologize for the confusion and hope to see you soon (Monday-Saturday).’

‘The cows sometimes get over-eager on their quest for self-preservation,’ a Chick-fil-A spokesperson told Business Insider.

‘They have been reminded that Sundays are off limits.’

One of Chick-fil-A’s competitors, Popeye’s, is using National Sandwich Day to relaunch its own chicken sandwich, and took a jab at its rival on Twitter.

‘Seriously… y’all good?’ the official Popeye’s account tweeted at Chick-fil-A in response to a post about the mishap.

Chick-fil-A has kept its restaurants closed on Sundays since its founding by a religiously devout Christian family.
