Sunday’s injury to Tony Romo put the Cowboys in the undesirable predicament of having to entrust their playoff chances in the arm of backup quarterback Brandon Weeden.

That led to an unhealthy social media debate over possible Weeden alternatives and, inevitably, one free-agent quarterback with a Texas-sized following in particular was posited by the masses, with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott among them.
