Who am I?

Hi! My name is Apostle Ricardo Butler! Most of you might know me as Christian hip-hop artist ReAsOn DiSciPLe the ApOsToLic PoEt© of Dead To Flesh Records. For those who don’t know me, let me give you a little testimony.

Before Christ, I started in the music world early, listening to DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, Run DMC, and Kurtis Blow records my uncle had back in the ‘80s. Around the ‘90s I started doing a little hip-hop dancing and competing in elementary school and middle school. About 7^th grade I got into poetry with the help of my dad. I won first place for a poem called, “Ode to a carrot.” Don’t ask! Around that time I got into gangs and then my “graffiti era” came to birth, as I was already an artist, so tagging up walls came natural.

I’m not going to get into my “deep dark past” but you can read more about it in my e-Book called, “The MC Part 1 - ReAsOn's Story: 7 Major Testimonies”. But let’s just say, after I completed my three year service in the United States Army, I landed my self in the system which took me to a hard time of my life in prison. BUT … at the same time it was the BEST time of my life! And that was because Christ, the Great Shepherd came and called out to this lost sheep!

When I was in prison, I asked the Lord, "How can I still do rap anymore?" My heart was still dirty, and my tongue was full of bad words. I haven't even heard Christian hip-hop before. So I had nothing to motivate or show me how to do it. At the time that I asked the Lord that question, I was reading the call of Moses.

God had asked Moses what was in his hand. And Moses told God he had the staff or rod. And God asked me a similar question. He said "What's in your hand Ricardo." I said, “A pencil and some paper.” He said, "Just write, I'll do the rest." In one week I had wrote the entire "God's Armor" album. And after I looked over it, I could not take any credit for it. I fell on my face and cried like Peter did on his boat before Jesus concerning the fishing net situation.

God asked me, "Did you ever wonder why you know and quote so much of My Scriptures, and people come up to you and ask you how did you learn all those Scriptures, and you said you didn't know, that they just seemed to pop into your head." I said yea. And God was like, "I did that, so that when you wrote your songs all you would be doing is rapping My Words, the Scriptures." It was January 8^th, 2005 when that took place. And that was the day when ReAsOn DiSciPLe and my long journey into the music ministry were born.

Since then, Christ has through me done many things to bless the Body of Christ and the music ministry, industry, and culture.

• Ordained by the laying on of hands and released by prophetic decree into the Evangelist Office while still in prison by Evangelism Explosion Prison Ministry.
• Started and lead the Seed of Faith Tour in 2007 with artists like: Loyal, Cisco Kidd, Young Evangelist, Commissary, Lil’ Prophet, Vast Remedy, Mello-D, etc. I also shared the stage with artists like: Joe Bless, KB, Suzy Rock, Ill P, etc.

• Ordained by the laying on of hands and released by prophetic decree into the Pastoral Ministry from Christ Church of Orlando to found and pastor MIC Assembly Hip-Hop Church of God.
