IS HOLINESS A REALISTIC EXPECTATION TODAY? WHY OR WHY NOT?To prepare for this writing assignment, I thought about the concept of Holiness as a realistic expectation in today’s society. I thought about the music, movies, and dress for today. I began to remember how my mother dressed and then how I dressed, finally I pondered on the items that my daughters try to slip out the door.I continued to think about the gay/lesbian movement, reality television, the people we elect to lead the country, and the abortion pill. I took the time to wonder what it would take to bring this world and all of the inhabitants back to a sovereign Lord. In what manner could we began to teach holiness? I decided to included is a definition of Holiness? I thought about this definition and do our spiritual leaders even teach holiness anymore. Most of the ones that I know do not teach holiness because some members might get offended.Holiness - The fact that He is morally pure.When a person lives in a manner consistent with the divine will of God, that person is in a state of being holy: that person is living a life of holiness. God requires his people to live a life of holiness (see Hebrews 12:14).After my brief examination I cannot honestly state that I believe that it is a realistic expectation for today’s culture to practice holiness. I do however; believe that we must continue to teach holiness. I am not very confident that this culture as a whole will embrace holiness as a way of life. It seems that our generation is addicted to evil and perversion. The fabric (Bible) that this country has used to set us apart from other countries has been put on trial several times. The main reason that I believe the idea of holiness is unrealistic because we like the tribe of Israel, have turn our backs on God; on his word.I remembered how many children have been murdered since January, how the world has glorified the murderers. I think that the Body of Christ has allowed evil to run rampart without much restraint. The political arena has created an avenue for holiness to become a dirty word. Many political organizations have taken the defense of groups that quietly but are clearly against God, the Bible, and the idea of holiness.The United States of America has become a perverse place and people now embrace the perversion instead of demanding holiness. Recently a man was arrested for molesting a horse. The readers of my blog were really into this story but not for the right reason. Many were not offended or put off. They were interested and many were even curious. This example shows that the morals that we, as a people used to embrace are far gone. The voices that pleaded with us to return unto God have fallen on deaf ears. We no longer fear God or the consequences that result from us walking away from God.Think for a moment what we are saying when couples put the intimate relations of their families on television for everyone to watch, we should know that there are problems. When one young man has 21 children from 11 different women (he is not married to any of them), we should be able to see holiness a thing of the past.I do hope that we as a nation might begin to run toward the only one who can save our world and the inhabitants. I hope that we as a nation might begin to worship our Lord and allow his word to redeem us to holiness again.
