nintendo-switch-unveiled

Goodbye, Nintendo NX; hello, Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo’s long-teased, never-unveiled new gaming platform finally has a name and, more importantly, has finally been revealed to the world, and… yeah, it’s exactly what all the rumors have been saying. In short, it’s a tablet-based game platform with detachable controllers that can dock at home and display games on your television. Nintendo unveiled the Switch Thursday morning via a YouTube video.

“In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles,” reads the video’s description.

The three-minute video showed off a variety of ways the NX… er, the Switch can be played. Play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at home on your TV, then take it with you on the go. Set up the Switch on your airplane’s tray table, and detach the two one-handed controllers to play a game ofSkyrim. Bust out the standard-shaped separate controller and play Splatoon on the go with the tablet, then plug the tablet into a TV to continue your game at home.
