Carmelo Anthony signed with the Houston Rockets this offseason as the supposed "missing piece" to a championship contender that took the Golden State Warriors to a Game 7 in the Western Conference Finals last season.
But now, just a few weeks into the regular season, the Rockets may already have buyer's remorse. Per insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Anthony is proving that his best days are behind him and the two parties are already discussing whether their relationship is viable enough to continue for the entire season.
Wow. WOJ BOMB!
Anthony's last appearance was supposed to be a revenge game, as he faced the Oklahoma City Thunder for the first team since they traded him this offseason to Atlanta and he was subsequently bought out.
Melo played awful in that game, though, scoring only two points and missing 10 of his 11 field goal attempts. This terrible performance led recently retired NBA forward Richard Jefferson to comment that it may be time for the 10-time All-Star to retire.
When Trevor Ariza left the Rockets to sign with the Phoenix Suns and Luc Mbah a Moute headed for the Clippers, Houston was left with a big hole to fill in their rotation on the wing. Anthony was supposed to be the guy that took that role and revitalized his career.
Veteran center Tyson Chandler is a stabilizing presence in the middle of a Lakers defense that turned in its best performance of the season Saturday.
After dropping the first three games of the season, the Los Angeles Lakers are back at .500, and their newest acquisition is a big reason why.
LeBron James scored his customary 25 points to lead the Lakers to a 101-86 win over the Sacramento Kings on Saturday night. Recently signed center Tyson Chandler only scored three, but his impact may have been greater as a stabilizing presence in the middle of a Lakers defense that turned in its best performance of the season.
In his second game with the Lakers, Chandler had 12 rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench. With the veteran anchoring the paint, Los Angeles held an opponent under 110 points for the first time this season. The Lakers entered the night allowing 119.1 points per game, third-worst in the league.
"For me, the defense has been easy because it comes naturally, but it's a matter of getting into the offense," Chandler said. "The key for us was getting back on transition, building walls, forcing them into a half-court offense."
