New Artist: Sain† James Set to Make Waves with his Debut
Author: Fancee

Perseverance and success are two words that best coincides for Saint James. Yes, Saint James is his stage name but to those who know him personally well, he is simply James.

To describe Saint James, he is an entrepreneur, music artist and owner of his own record label. The way he presents himself as an artist and the plans that he sets forward for his future is brightly lit for everyone to see that he means business.

Music is not just love and passion for Saint James. Music for Saint James is spreading the word through good Christian rap that not only represents himself but the mind, body and spirit of God.

I had the opportunity to interview Saint James and get into his mind on how important this calling, in which God has called him for, really means to him. His music, his lyrics and communication level, as well as, his energy and vibe are definitely going to be a journey of success, not just a destination.

How long have you put yourself out there as a Christian rapper and why is it important for you to be put in that category or genre of music?

I’ve been a Christian rapper for about 7 years and putting myself out there for about 6 years. This is important to me to be put in this genre because this is who I am. Being a Christian is not just a title but it’s my choice of lifestyle. I have a relationship with Jesus that my music is about giving glory to Christ and worshiping him.

Who inspires you to drive yourself in this music industry as a Christian rapper?

God inspires me. Seven years ago He told me to spread the gospel through music and I didn’t get the sense that it was something to be done part time. After much prayer and some fasting, I realized that it was to be a career ministry. God pushes me to become what He has called me to be.

Do you think Christian rap has a place in today’s music industry just as hip hop, pop and R&B music does?

I do because the quality of Christian music has gone through the roof. I think we can become mainstream without losing ourselves to some unnecessary parts of the industry. I’ve spoken to many people who are fans of mainstream hip hop music and say that in general hip hop is dead. Only great music and Christ can resurrect it.

You have a voice that is being shared to others for the world to hear and the biggest issue now in the media is being heard and not caring about the quality of the music. What do you think you can offer to this world or at least contribute for those to hear your music?

That’s hard to answer. My music is a wide range of things. I want people to experience all kinds of emotions while listening to my music. Happiness, encouragement, hope, mystery, etc. The music will speak for itself, I just hope it speaks loudly (laughing).

Do you believe you can change the way people view music in general or the message that is behind the words that people are taking to their sub-conscious minds?

I sure hope so. I am very conscious and deliberate about what I write down. Lyrics are the most important parts to music. Recently, people say they only listen to the beats because artists these days aren’t saying much of anything. I don’t want that for my music or any of my future artists who chooses to be on my label.

In Proverbs 18:21 The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences. This means that our words can stir up emotions and actions either for greatness or destruction and we will be held accountable for what we say.

If you had to break down the words Christian rapper and its meaning to others who aren’t aware of its true meaning, what would you say or describe it as?

Christian really means follower of Christ. Christ means Messiah which also means anointed one. We are followers of the anointed one. We all know what rappers are and what they do. I am a rapper who is a follower of the anointed one and I am the anointed one’s rapper.

Does the Bible play a major role on how you deliver your rhymes though music?

Absolutely, I wouldn’t be much of a Christian rapper if I didn’t. I only rap what the Bible says. I preach what He tells me which is salvation, right from wrong, the love of God, His divinity, separation between God and other gods, why He is supreme, and no one can compare to Him.

What is your favorite scripture in the Bible and how do you allow that to be an effect to your everyday life?

My favorite scripture is Proverbs 16:3. Commit your actions to the Lord and your plans will succeed. This is how I see it, whatever you do, do it for the Lord and your dreams will come true. It’s very important to me because it goes hand in hand with another favorite scripture of mine. James 2:14 What good is it to say you have faith, when you don’t do anything to show that you really do have faith? The past seven years I believed that I can be a Christian rapper that could make a change for my family and for the world but if I never took the steps to bring my dreams to reality, it would just be a lot of hot air.

That’s how I live my life every day. I set goals, set God before those goals and by His help and my faith, I will accomplish what I know I can accomplish
