“Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto Him, Rabbi [Teacher], (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou? He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where He dwelt, and abode with Him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.” (John 1:38-39).
“And the next day WE [Luke the Teacher, Silas the Prophet, Timothy the Evangelist, Titus the Pastor, etc] that were of [the Apostle] Paul’s company [an apostolic team] departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the HOUSE of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven [one of the seven original deacons]; and abode with him. And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy. And as we tarried there [at Philip the Evangelist's HOUSE] many days, there came down from Judea a certain prophet, named Agabus [It looks like the whole Five Fold Ministry met at this House Church].” (Acts 21:8-10).
“In baseball, when you’re not quite ready to play in the majors, they send you to a minor-league team called a farm team. The major teams all have affiliated farm teams (so named, I think, because they use them to grow their players from seeds into turnips, or whatever). In the minors, the scouts watch you in real-game situations, and as soon as you’re good enough, they move you up to the majors.” (Passman, Donald S. All You Need to Know about the Music Business, 7th Edition. Free Press/MBS, 112009. pp. 103-104).
By now you should already know that I believe the church exists on FOUR levels according to the Acts 1:8 Principle, which is:
- Jerusalem (LOCALLY, HOME, COMMUNITY, CITY)
- Judea (STATEWIDE, COUNTY, REGIONAL)
- Samaria (NATIONALLY, COUNTRY, HEMISPHERE)
- Uttermost Part of the Earth (GLOBALLY, INTERNATIONALLY, UNIVERSALLY)
I believe all believers start of (in their context) Jerusalem in what is being called the house church. In the above Scriptures Jesus had started His ministry having his first disciples (the future Apostles) learn right away about the House Church. This movement has become a huge movement globally. I think many of them have taken it to an extreme, but we will get to that later.
In the book of Acts it looks like the whole Five-Fold ministry was having church in Phillip’s house. Who knows what they were doing. But I bet you it was amazing as far as the fellowship and unity was concerned!
I brought up the farm team example because Don Passman was actually using the illustration to show how record companies had other independent record labels where they trained up and raised up potential artists for their major labels. And as that talent grew and matured in their craft they were “promoted” to the mainstream music industry.
I already mentioned a great amount of Scriptures in the beginning to show you that I value more importantly the house church over a church in a temple style synagogue building. But there is a place for the temple as well. We will cover that a little later.
I think a huge problem with us hip-hop ministers is that we mentally have it in our heads that we must enter the music industry, whether it is secular or holy hip-hop. I don’t think it’s necessary because of the Acts 1:8 principle.
