Here's today's devotion, today's scripture 1 Peter 1:3-9 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable, undefiled, and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various [a]trials, 7 so that the [b]proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which perishes though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 8 and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and [c]full of glory, 9 obtaining as the outcome of your faith, the salvation of [d]your souls.
We all go through troubling times, and it's easy to get disheartened when that happens, but the Bible teaches that even during periods of challenge and adversity, those of us who are believers can respond correctly.
Today's scripture passage tells us to Rejoice. This doesn't mean we're to be glad about the hardship, but we should rejoice, because we're protected by God for the eternal glory that awaits us in heaven. Another reason for Joy is that trials are designed to produce endurance and spiritual maturity in us. God wants us to hang in there, so we can derive the full benefit of whatever lesson he has in mind. Our heavenly father also uses trials to prove to his children that their faith is genuine.
When we persevere through each difficulty, our faith is tested and refined. Adding to the assurance of our salvation as we learn that God brings benefit from our adversities, we'll begin to face challenging times with confidence, knowing he always has our best interest in mind. This leads to Joy because we know he's building our endurance, purifying our heart, and making us people with unshakable trust in him.
