Oxford dictionary's word of the year for 2016 was post-truth that was over four years ago, but it feels as current as ever doesn't it. We live in a post-truth age, a culture that says you have your truth. I have my truth, but there is no capital “T” truth for all of us, but this makes it pretty challenging to figure out. What's actually true doesn't it years ago I was asked to do a presentation on christianity for a group of atheists.
And as you might imagine, the Q and A was quite lively, but you know one of the things I told them I respected about them was that they were committed to trying to understand what was true. They weren't just gonna. Let me tell them that christianity was true, because I say it's true:
They wanted to know. is it actually true? There's this cool verse in Acts 17:11.
Paul and Silas they had been sent to teach about Jesus in a place called berea and listen to what it says.
“Now the berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica , for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the scriptures every day, to see if what Paul said was true .''
This is incredible. the Berean Bews were saying, “okay, Paul you're, saying that Jesus rose from the dead, and that he's our messiah. But is that true. they fact-checked him.
And notice they fact-checked him by turning to the Word of God. Who knows, maybe they opened up to Isaiah 53 written 700 years before Jesus which says,” but he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities”. But wherever it was, they turned to in God's word, it says that many of them believed they discovered that what paul was saying was true.
There are so many truth claims out there today wouldn't it be great to have like a grid to run them through the reality is we have one the word of god, our ultimate and reliable source of truth.
