Professor Cornel West and Tavis Smiley are planning to hold a symposium on poverty on January 17th, right before President Obama’s inauguration. President Obama’s victory in the last election was met with intense celebration, particularly in the African American community. Dr. West says that Obama’s presidency offers a unique opportunity for black Americans to have the political voice they are seeking.
