Now the new iPad is out of the gate, the iPhone 5 is once again the talk of the town. One analyst reckons the next-generation smartphone will see a completely new unibody design

The key reason for current users to upgrade to an iPhone 5 later this year will be a 'sleek unibody casing' according to an industry analyst.

In a note to investors, Brian J. White of Topeka Capital Markets reckons production will begin on a new 4-inch iPhone in June this year, following a recent visit to suppliers in Taiwan and China.

He says the sixth generation iPhone device will boast a look similar to the single sheet aluminum casings featured on recent iterations of the Apple MacBook Pro and MacBook Air lines.

White wrote: "In our view, this will be the most significant iPhone upgrade with a four-inch screen and a new, sleek look that we believe will require a Unibody case. This new, sleek look will be the most important reason that consumers decide to upgrade."

White, who also thinks the iPhone 5 will boast 4G LTE connectivity just like the new iPad, reckons the launch in Q4 of 2012 will dwarf previous generation iPhone releases and push Apple closer to an almost unthinkable $1,000 share price by the end of the year. At the time of writing, the company currently sits on $623.

In his note to investors, White also backed-up recent reports that Apple is working on an iPad mini tablet. Last week, DaringFireball editor John Gruber spoke of a 7.85-inch iPad tablet prototype currently under examination in Apple's development labs.

And yet another Galaxy S III rumor surfaces, shows new render and May 22 launch date

The rumors about the Galaxy S III are definitely piling up. A couple of Korean blogs are reporting that Samsung may start sending invites to the press about an upcoming event to unveil the Galaxy S III in London on May 22. Unlike the other leaks, this invite is showing a more sleek looking phone, at least, half of it. I might be mistaken but the picture above could also be of the back of the phone which is curved just like the other Galaxy phones. There is also the possibility that this picture could be photoshopped which is why we should take this leak with grain of salt. But again, …

DMG will also release RELOADED, a new Christian Hip Hop project by Memphis, TN based ministry and music coalition The Holy South. RELOADED marks the 10-year anniversary of The Holy South hip hop music ministry that started in Memphis as a result of founder Mr. Del parting ways from secular gangster rap group Three 6 Mafia. Mr. Del committed his talents and efforts to forming a special spiritual task force that had an evangelistic mission to win teens and young adults in the city and later expanded to the entire country. The Holy South has continued evangelizing and hitting the streets, touring extensively throughout the U.S. impacting their generation and the generation next.

RELOADED enlists a new generation of young musical soldiers ready for battle with lyrical messages of praise and salvation. This project shamelessly addresses common issues and situations our young people daily are saturated with: violence, drugs, and idolatry. “This CD is a result of God assembling a strong team who are empowered by the Holy Spirit, and armed with the message of Jesus Christ and the cross,” explains Mr. Del. “They are ready to counter-attack the strategies of the enemy on our generation with kingdom music…warfare music!”

Five bi-national married couples filed suit Monday in New York against the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, arguing that the law denies gays and lesbians the right to petition for permanent residence, as heterosexual couples are allowed to do. The suit argued equal protection grounds.

The case brought by Immigration Equality follows numerous other DOMA suits wending their way through the courts on their way to the Supreme Court within the next couple of years.
The quandary facing such couples got national attention in the case of a San Francisco couple, Bradford Wells, a U.S. citizen, and Anthony John Makk, a citizen of Australia. Makk faced deportation but got a reprieve after House minority leader Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, intervened in their case. Others are not so fortunate.
Another Bay Area couple, Brian Willingham and Alfonso Garcia, have argued that the Obama administration is "still aggressively enforcing DOMA" despite administrative guidance to use "prosecutorial discretion" in enforcement against gay and lesbian bi-national couples. Garcia was brought to the United States as a child and has lived in the Bay Area for 21 years.
That may be changing, however. At a March 22 hearing last month in San Francisco, , Willingham said in an email Monday, "something sort of historic happened. The judge decided to treat us the same as any other married couple in the same situation. As soon as Judge Hoogosian learned that I had filed a green card petition for my husband, and that USCIS was still in the process of reviewing that petition, she decided to postpone the deportation hearing for seven months." The government attorney did not object. If the couple's green card application is not approved, Willingham said they will be asking the government to put the application on hold until DOMA is settled.

Viewers got a first glimpse of Whitney Houston's upcoming film Monday when NBC's "Today" show premiered a trailer for the much-awaited release, and a fuller clip debuted on Yahoo! Movies.

A remake of the 1976 original, "Sparkle" stars Houston as the mother of three girls who form a singing group and struggle with fame and drug addiction. The trailer displayed the daughters, including "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks, in performance. Houston is prominent throughout, at one point singing the classic gospel song "His Eye Is on the Sparrow."
She also tells one of her daughters: "I always knew you had the gift. It makes me feel like I did something right. Don't lose it."
Debra Martin Chase, who is a producer of the film, said she had mixed emotions with the trailer's release; the movie is scheduled for release Aug. 17.
"On the one hand, I'm so excited about the movie and we're really happy with how it turned out," she said in a phone interview Monday. "(But) just to have it said yet again that this is Whitney's last performance, it's hard. It's hard."
Houston is listed as the executive producer of the movie, which had already finished filming in Detroit when the superstar died Feb. 11 at 48 in Beverly Hills, Calif., on the eve of the Grammy Awards. An autopsy has shown she accidentally drowned in the bathtub, with heart disease and cocaine use listed as contributing factors.
There is no mention made of drugs in the trailer, and Chase declined to say whether it would be a focal part of the movie as it was in the original, saying she didn't want to talk specifically about the plotlines until closer to the movie's release date.
She also added that the movie was not altered to increase Houston's time in the film in the wake of her death.
"She is an integral, very much an integral part of the movie, but she's not one of the girls," she said. "She plays an important role, she's throughout the movie, but she's not one of the main characters."
Chase echoed other people involved with the movie who praised Houston's professionalism on the set. The movie was seen as a comeback vehicle for the star, whose career had waned over the years due to battles with drugs and alcohol.
"She was healthy, happy, on time every day, hung out on set when she wasn't working because she loved the cast," said Chase, who also declined to talk about the circumstances of Houston's death. "She had fun, her spirit buoyed everybody every day."
Houston had worked to get "Sparkle" to the screen for 12 years. It was her first movie since 1996's "The Preacher's Wife" and 20 years removed from her debut in the blockbuster movie "The Bodyguard," which was rereleased for one night last week.
"Whitney loved this movie very much. This was her idea," Chase said. "The great thing for me as her friend and her producing partner is that this movie will be an essential part of her legacy. ... It's the best performance of her life; she knew it at the time. She looked beautiful on camera and she enjoyed every minute making the movie."

LG Optimus 3D Max cruises through FCC with AT&T bands

The LG Thrill 4G didn’t quite make the impact that either LG or AT&T had anticipated; owners of the device had to wait over a year for a Gingerbread update. Hoping to avoid the same fiasco, it looks like Ma Bell and LG are going to give it another shot with the upcoming LG Optimus 3D Max which has just cleared the FCC under model number LG-P720H. With AT&T rolling out its brand new LTE network, you’d think that all of their upcoming “high-end” devices would sport LTE radios, right? According to the FCC filings, the LG-P720H has HSPA+ radios, just like the international variant. Th…

Leaked Sprint Training Slides Confirm Galaxy Nexus Specs?

Earlier today, there was a juicy leak showing documentation that we could be seeing the launch of the Galaxy Nexus for Sprint on April 22nd. In case you haven’t checked your calendar lately, that’s just in a few short weeks. We now have a few leaked slides being sent to Sprint employees for training purposes on exactly what to expect once the device arrives in stores. Guess what? There’s nothing new here. And that’s either good or bad news depending on which side of the fence you’re sitting on.

It was rumored 2 months ago that Sprint customers could be seeing a souped up version of the device, after a leaked Sprint ad show…

Rumor: HTC EVO 3D to Go to Virgin Mobile as HTC EVO V 4G

It looks like Sprint might be lending its EVO brand to its offspring Virgin Mobile here in the United States. PocketNow1 is reporting that Virgin Mobile will offer the HTC EVO 3D as the HTC EVO V 4G sometime later this year. Not to be confused with the 1GHz single-core EVO 4G, Sprint’s first 4G phone, the EVO V 4G will come with a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, a 4.3 inch qHD glasses-free 3D display, 1GB of RAM, two five megapixel 1080p HD cameras capable of recording 3D video in 720p and a lot more. While the phone is a little dated, it’s not a bad option up against Virgin’s other offerings. We imagine it’ll eventually receive Android 4…

LG Optimus 3D Max clears the FCC – headed to AT&T

LG’s looking to release another glasses-free 3D smartphone and while we’ve heard tons of names and leaks, it will officially be known as the LG Optimus 3D Max. We got our first official look at the new 3D phone at Mobile World Congress (linked to below) and now we are seeing it clear the FCC on its way to AT&T. Sadly it appears to only be rocking 3G and HSPA+ speeds, no 4G LTE here.

With names such as the Optimus 3D 2, the CX2, and 3D Cube we’ve seen our fair share of information about this phone. While it doesn’t have any huge changes over the original Optimus 3D (aka LG Thrill 4G for AT&T) it does look like a pretty solid phone, …

Magic Johnson is about to learn $2 billion only buys you so much. Now he'll need to bring the Los Angeles Dodgers the same success he brought the Lakers.
News that Johnson and his partners agreed to purchase the team sparked a groundswell of excited chatter and optimism Wednesday that the man who ran "Showtime" could restore luster to the once-proud franchise.
The amount Johnson and his partners are paying would be mind-blowing if it was just for the team itself. But it also gives Johnson's group the right to reel in future riches from TV and real estate associated with the Dodgers.
"A big part of the purchase price is all those other things," said David Carter, executive director of USC Sports Business Institute. "You've got a great piece of property you can develop and make a game-day experience around Chavez Ravine. A likely billion-dollar cable (television) rights deal that will come out of it makes it a very unique sale."
Current owner Frank McCourt hand-picked Johnson's group to buy the Dodgers on Tuesday, just five hours after Major League Baseball approved three finalists in a bankruptcy auction. The deal is one of several steps toward a sale of the team by the end of April. It is subject to approval by a federal bankruptcy judge.
"The interest in this franchise and its historic sale price are profound illustrations of the great overall health of our industry," baseball Commissioner Bud Selig said. "This has been a long, difficult process, and I once again want to thank the great Dodger fans for their loyalty and patience."
Selig has the right to review the final agreement. If MLB has any objections, it would bring them up with mediator Joseph Farnan Jr.
Johnson's group would gain the ability to sell the Dodgers' local broadcasting rights starting with games in 2014. It likely would use money gained from the rights sale - or from the team's own network with outside investment - and use those funds to pay down the acquisition debt. The team's debt stood at $579 million as of January, according to a court filing.
Johnson is seemingly a perfect fit. He lives locally, he already knows what it takes to win championships, and he's proven he can succeed in real estate, retail and entertainment - keys to helping the team bolster its coffers in pursuit of big-money free agents.
"He's well-grounded and well-respected," Carter said. "You have a strong presence in the community, he's connected to city hall, and has a good relationship with the media. All these things are important and will help the community get over Frank."
And Johnson still has the dazzling smile that will make him a great public face for what once was - and could be again - one of baseball's marquee franchises.
"Great day for the Dodgers," slugger Matt Kemp said from spring training in Glendale, Ariz. "As Magic used to say, the Dodgers were the team that used to run L.A. Definitely we were going to have more fans out there this year. Now there's another reason to have the fans turn out."
Retired Dodgers manager Tom Lasorda has known Johnson since he first came to play for the Lakers.
"The most important part is he'll talk to some of the players individually about how to win. That's what we got to do right now is win again and bring our fans back," he said. "He knows how to talk to people, he knows how to impress people and how to build people up."
Hours after the announcement that Johnson's group was the winning bidder, the Dodgers said their April 10 home opener was sold out.
"As soon as you hear the name Magic Johnson, it turns into a positive," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "There's positive energy around the ball club, around the city."
Johnson's group didn't comment Wednesday, but he said after their winning bid was announced that he was thrilled to be part of the franchise "as we drive the Dodgers back to the front page of the sports section in our wonderful community of Los Angeles."
Johnson's business acumen is equal to his success on the court. The 52-year-old Hall of Fame guard won championships at Everett High in Lansing, Mich., at Michigan State and five NBA titles with the Lakers.
After being forced to retire suddenly in 1991 with HIV, Johnson remade himself into a successful entrepreneur and became a respected voice as an HIV activist and campaigned to educate people about the disease.
Johnson is well-known for his self-named nationwide chain of movie theaters, movie studio, and promotion company. He previously owned more than 100 Starbucks franchises and had a minority ownership in the Lakers. His other ventures include commercial real estate and health clubs.
"Magic Johnson is probably the most beloved sports figure in Los Angeles history," Lakers owner Jerry Buss said. "He has been a success in everything else he's become involved with, most notably his spectacular business career and also his educational campaign on behalf of HIV awareness."
Johnson's reputation as a winner in sports and business lends a new air of credibility to the Dodgers, who saw attendance plummet below 3 million in McCourt's final season when fans bashed his stewardship of the team.
"I think they'll be able to fill the stadium just because of Magic," said Mike Baldwin, a longtime fan who quit going to games after McCourt bought the team in 2003. "I don't think baseball could have done a better job than to pull him in."
Johnson's partners in buying the Dodgers include Stan Kasten, former president of the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals; and Peter Guber, a longtime Hollywood executive and co-owner of the NBA's Golden State Warriors.
Mark Walter, chief executive officer of the Chicago-based financial services firm Guggenheim Partners, would be the controlling owner. Kasten would be the top day-to-day executive. The group's other investors include Guggenheim Partners President Todd Boehly and Bobby Patton, whose investments include oil and gas properties.
When baseball's ownership committee considered the bids, there initially were four votes against Johnson's group, a person familiar with baseball's deliberations said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the details were not made public. Those owners were concerned about the financing of the group, with money coming from insurance funds at Guggenheim.
During the conference call of all teams Tuesday, there was concern expressed about whether the auction process was being run properly. Farnan got on that call and persuaded them to approve all three finalists, saying he would be at the final auction and make sure it was run correctly. Following that, all three groups were approved unanimously.
The process never reached a Wednesday auction, given the Johnson group's bid.
Other finalists were groups headed by St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke and Steven Cohen of the hedge fund SAC Capital Advisors. Cohen's bid at the time of the MLB teleconference Tuesday was $1.3 billion, the person familiar with baseball's deliberations said. Kroenke was at $1.5 billion.
While others are putting far more money into the winning group, Johnson's name and smile are what lit up fans' moods in the city where he remains the most enduring and beloved sports superstar.
"There's a lot of euphoria about the fact that it's Magic and it's no longer Frank," Carter said. "He'll have a honeymoon period and I think most people in Southern California hope he doesn't need it."

4798Donovan McNabb, who wasn't a good fit at quarterback for the Washington Redskins in 2010, says Robert Griffin III won't be either if coach Mike Shanahan makes him the No. 2 pick in the NFL draft next month.

Robert Griffin III won't be a good fit in Washington if Redksins coach Mike Shanahan makes him the No. 2 pick in the NFL draft next month, according to former Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb.

"I say that because a lot of times ego gets too involved when it comes to being in Washington," McNabb said Thursday on ESPN's First Take.
"Here's a guy coming out who's very talented, mobile, strong arm, we've already heard he's intelligent -- football mind. Are you going to cater the offense around his talents and what he's able to do? Or are you going to bring the Houston offense with Matt Schaub over to him and have him kind of be imbedded in that?"
Kyle Shanahan, son of Mike and Redskins offensive coordinator, formerly was offensive coordinator in Houston with Schaub at quarterback.
"We talk so much about Mike Shanahan and the things he was able to do in Denver (as Broncos head coach). Well, I have a couple of names for you ... quarterbacks that he's coached and the lack of success that he's had."
Shanahan won two Super Bowls with John Elway at quarterback in Denver. But McNabb mentioned John Beck and Rex Grossman (both in Washington) and Jay Cutler, Jake Plummer and Brian Griese (all in Denver).
McNabb described Plummer as a "guy who had success, led them (the Broncos) to the AFC championship against Pittsburgh ... and then (Shanahan) benched him the next year because he wouldn't do what he wanted him to do.''
McNabb said he has questions about what kind of offense Washington would run with Griffin, the Heisman Trophy winner from Baylor.
"Is it the spread offense that you try to continue to (have) flourish that he's been successful in? Or are you just going to have him in a foxhole with a makeshift offensive line, (and) you keep bringing in receivers," said McNabb. "What are we going to see?. I don't think it's a great fit. I think the D.C. fan base will support RG3 because they love the acquisition. .... But if this doesn't work this year, if we don't see a splash like a Cam Newton splash (as a rookie last season with the Carolina Panthers) this could be it."

4798Dale Earnhardt spent Wednesday afternoon sliding a Camaro around the Charlotte Motor Speedway infield in a commercial shoot featuring drifting, a Fast and the Furious-style of racing.

"It was really hard," NASCAR's most popular driver said. "I didn't do as (well as) I thought I was going to do, but I kind of knew that. It's just like people watching NASCAR and saying, 'Man, that looks easy. How hard can that be, going around in circles?' That's what I thought about drifting until I got out here. I was like, 'That's not very easy at all.' "
Though he struggled (Earnhardt gave himself a 2 while giving an 8 to fellow Sprint Cup driver and shoot participant Juan Pablo Montoya), the Hendrick Motorsports driver emerged in a loose mood that mirrored the exhibition of freewheeling driving talent.
During a wide-ranging interview with a small group of writers afterward, Earnhardt covered myriad topics stretching from Tiger Woods' recent win to the Tim Tebow phenomenon to his passion for food. A few of the highlights:
Q: You're in the midst of a long winless streak, and Tiger Woods just ended a two-year skid last weekend. Did you have a chance to watch it, and would you relate to the expression of relief on his face?
A: I ain't watched it. I'm a big Tiger fan, and I've been pulling for him to succeed. I related to the pressure he was under the last couple of years and all the doubts about his abilities and whether he would get back to where he wanted to be. I felt like I kind of knew where he was mentally. For him to come back and win gives me confidence in my ability to do the same thing. I'm not in any way trying to compare myself to him. I just see there are similarities and comparisons. There's things I can draw from his experience and what he's going through that I see and can relate to his deal. So hopefully, I can win a race and know what that feels like. I'm sure it would be a huge relief. I think we're really close.
Q: Some fans have taken to comparing the attention you receive in NASCAR with that received by Tim Tebow in the NFL. Any thoughts on that?
A: I don't know. I haven't really thought about that one. Do I need to work on my throwing motion? Is my throwing motion OK with everyone? Everybody happy with it? (chuckling) I don't know. That guy is under too much damn pressure. I'll tell you that. I like him and think he's a good guy, but man, I think he lives under twice the microscope I ever did. He's incredible. He doesn't really fan the flames on that (exposure). He just does his own thing. But I don't know. I guess that ain't a bad guy to get compared to.
Q: Hendrick Motorsports has been sitting on win No. 199 for nearly six months. If you get the 200th victory, will that overshadow the milestone for team owner Rick Hendrick?
A: I don't think he'd have a problem with that (laughs). No, I believe if anyone wins in our company, the win overshadows the 200th as far as the media coverage. Doesn't matter who wins. When you're inside the company, inside those doors, then the driver side isn't quite as important. The 200th win will be the big deal at the next company luncheon.

4798Struggling BlackBerry maker Research in Motion Ltd. said Thursday that it will cede most consumer markets after failing to compete with flashier touch-screen phones such as Apple's iPhone and models that run Google's Android software.

Instead, RIM said it will return to its roots and focus on business customers, many of whom prefer BlackBerrys for their security. RIM has had limited success trying to enter consumer markets in recent years, and RIM CEO Thorsten Heins said a turnaround required "substantial change."
"We plan to refocus on the enterprise business and capitalize on our leading position in this segment," Heins said. "We believe that BlackBerry cannot succeed if we tried to be everybody's darling and all things to all people. Therefore, we plan to build on our strength."
Also Thursday, RIM said former co-CEO Jim Balsillie has resigned from its board. David Yach, chief technology officer for software, and Jim Rowan, chief operating officer for global operations, also are leaving in a management shakeup.
The Canadian company has long dominated the corporate smartphone market, with its BlackBerrys known for their security and reliability as email devices. President Barack Obama even refused to part with his BlackBerry after he took office.
RIM has sought to expand its appeal to consumers, but it has had trouble because the phones aren't perceived to be as sexy as its chief competitors. RIM has been counting on improvements with its forthcoming BlackBerry 10 system, but that has faced multiple delays. BlackBerrys also lag iPhones or Android phones when it comes to running third-party applications.
For that reason, BlackBerrys are even losing ground in the business world, as employees demand iPhones or Android devices over BlackBerrys.
Apple sold 37 million iPhones in the last three months of 2011 -- more than what RIM shipped in the past three quarters combined. RIM shipped 11.1 million BlackBerrys in the latest quarter, which ended March 3.
RIM also bombed in its efforts to produce a tablet computer to compete with Apple's iPad. Among other things, the PlayBook received negative reviews because it launched without an email program and the popular messaging service BlackBerry Messenger. In December, the tablets that originally cost $500 were selling for $200, below the cost of making them.
