Apple’s iPad mini is almost certainly set to be announced next week at an event in San Jose Tuesday, and we’re now hearing that it will ship a week and a half after that unveiling. November 2 is the ship date we’ve heard today from a source close to Apple’s supply chain, echoing an earlier report by Geeky Gadgets that that’s the day the iPad mini will go on sale.

Geeky Gadgets cited a prominent U.K. retailer as the source of its information. For the iPhone 5, the September 21 retail availability date was telegraphed ahead of time thanks to leaked information from carrier partners, and retailers have been a source of Apple-related product leaks in the past. Our own source has also previously proven reliable with unreleased Apple info.

In addition to our own source and Geeky Gadgets, 9to5Mac also tweeted that it was hearing this was the date it would be released and likely hit the first batch of pre-order buyers. It’s also the most logical choice, given Apple’s recent product announcement and release timelines. For the iPhone 5, Apple announced it on September 12, with pre-orders beginning on September 14 and devices shipping and hitting retail stores September 21. Pre-orders for the latest iPad started immediately following its announcement, and the iPad actually shipped only nine days later, however, so it isn’t yet clear whether the iPad mini’s pre-order date will be the same day as the announcement, or the Friday following, and our source had no information in that area.

Apple also probably wants to take full advantage of the holiday shopping season, so pushing for availability following closely on the heels of the announcement is a good bet. Traditionally, it enjoys considerable success during the holiday period. Apple sold 15.43 million iPads during last year’s holiday quarter, up from 7.33 million in the same period in 2011. It managed an impressive 17 million during the quarter ending June 30, 2012, however, so it could be poised for record-shattering quarter this holiday, if the iPad mini strikes a chord with users in terms of price and design.

Lin has touted the Atlanta-based rapper Lecrae as his musical inspiration.

The date was Jan. 27, 2012, around 5:30 p.m., two hours before tipoff between the Miami Heat and New York Knicks. That's when Jeremy Lin met with the Heat's chaplain inside the bowels of American Airlines Arena. They prayed together that Lin would stay with the Knicks, who were considering releasing him in just a couple of days.

Well, we all know what happened next: Linsanity.

But what many people don't know is that Lin, who's a devout Christian, is still searching for answers -- nine months since his coming-out party -- because he hasn't yet adjusted to all of the global attention.

Lecrae, whom Lin calls his favorite rapper, found that out firsthand when the two of them met about three weeks ago after one of the rapper's shows in Houston, where the point guard is now living.

"What Jeremy talked to me about was just the reality of everyone kind of pulling at him, and a lot of people expecting him to make decisions that would please them," Lecrae told ESPN Playbook earlier this week. "He's kind of a reserved kid, a reserved young man, and it's not really his demeanor to be all in the mix like that, and to be pulled every which way.

"He was talking about that struggle and that wrestle, and I'm a firm believer in God. That's one of the things I was encouraging him, which I do with my music as well. I'm a firm believer that God has the answer, and God will provide the solution that you ultimately need. I just told him to stay connected to him in every which way. That's kind of what we talked about."

It turns out that Lecrae, who specializes in Christian hip-hop and recently dropped his sixth studio album, "Gravity," is highly sought after by players around the league -- and even team chaplains -- for his prayer sessions. Lecrae either does them at the arena or stadium or the visiting team's hotel, typically starting two hours before the game and lasting 45 minutes.

They're usually scheduled when Lecrae is in a certain city performing, or when there's a game featuring a team with whom he has a good relationship. Since initiating his chapel services last year, free of charge, he's developed relationships with Team USA men's basketball and the Kings and Timberwolves in the NBA; the Giants, Falcons and Buccaneers in the NFL; and the Yankees, Braves, White Sox and Diamondbacks in MLB. His next chapel service is on Dec. 16 with the Giants in Atlanta, where they play the Falcons.

While taking a break from his current nationwide "Unashamed Tour 2012: Come Alive,” Lecrae spoke with ESPN Playbook about his spiritually driven hip-hop, how he helps the pros and his own sports interests.

So I hear you have a special connection with a lot of athletes because of the unique messages in your music.

Yeah, everywhere I go -- different states, different cities. In Pittsburgh recently, we got to hang out with Andrew McCutchen and some of the Pirates. In Chicago, some of the Cubs came out. We hung out with some of the Cardinals when we get to Arizona, so it's been good, man. Professional athletes are showing a lot of support, and I'm really honored.

Why do you think they relate so much to your songs?

I think a lot of players have foundations in their faith, and they really see that permeate in every other aspect of their lives. Music is just one of the areas, and I think a lot of guys love hip-hop or rap music, but they tend to not have hip-hop or rap music that kind of co-signs their views on life. So I think that's kind of what I provide them. Also, I just like to get guys amped up before games as well. Myself being athletically inclined, I like to have music that pumps me up, too.

When did you first start developing relationships in sports?

I did a concert at a sports camp in Missouri [in 2003] and it was for a lot of inner-city kids, and I think there I started developing relationships with a lot of college athletes. Over time, some of them have gone on to play in the leagues, and we've kept in touch. And then on top of that, they've just been spreading the word, and I think a lot of guys love being able to give their teammates some music that will inspire them.

Which athletes are you closest with today?

espn-go-bubba-watson.jpg
Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images
Bubba Watson is one of Lecrae's athlete pals.

Bubba Watson and I are pretty close. We hang out from time to time, and he comes to Atlanta, where I live, and I go out to Phoenix, where he lives. Dwight Howard and I are buddies, Justin Forsett who plays for the Houston Texans, Anthony Tolliver who's now on the Hawks -- there are a lot of guys. Nolan Smith from the Trail Blazers. They're just buddies, man. It's just friends. We enjoy athletics, we enjoy hip-hop and we have similar backgrounds, similar stories.

What was your reaction when you heard Lin say last season that you were his favorite rapper?

It was really encouraging. It was really inspiring to be able to have that support. Because really, at the end of the day, these are guys, these are people, and they don't have it all figured out. They're playing professional sports, and there's a lot of demands on them, and so you just want to be able to be in their corner and serve them. And I think my music does that in a lot of ways. I'm relating to them, just giving them insights on life.

Why do you think Christian hip-hop has recently become more popular?

I tend not to call it Christian hip-hop because I think it would be limited to being only for Christians. I think it's responsible hip-hop. I think it paints a broad picture of life, and it doesn't just limit life to just kind of instinctual pleasure, power pleasure and possession.

You see [the "30 for 30" documentary] "Broke" and see all these guys who are losing funds. It's a reality that's happened for them, but there's a lot of baggage that comes with that. And guys are looking for answers and are looking for wisdom in a lot of areas that a lot of people aren't giving to them. And so that's one of the things that I look to do. When I get an opportunity, I try to do chapel services for some of the pro players, just to try to give them reality.

When you run your chapel services with players, what are some of the biggest issues you discuss with them?

I think one of the biggest issues is really just significance and purpose, and not having your identity wrapped up in your performance on the field, because you're more than a professional athlete. You're more than your talent and your skill. You're a whole person. It's just encouraging guys when they get injured or when no one's cheering for them anymore -- that they're still significant. They still have purpose. That's pretty much been a general issue for a lot of guys -- it's the performance trap.

It's interesting how even the team chaplains invite you. What significance does that have?

It's good for the athletes when somebody looks like them, talks like them, grew up how they grew up and dealt with some of the pressures in some ways. That's always hopeful.

At your New York City show two weeks ago, you performed "Falling Down" from your newest album, which I related to sports in that even if you have a bad game, you pick yourself right back up for the next one.

espn-go-lecrae.jpg
J. Countess/WireImage
The rapper's sixth LP, "Gravity," was released in September.

Yeah. I think that's the whole basis behind my album, "Gravity," is that life is waiting, and there are issues and circumstances that pull us down. And as they pull us down, you've got to remember that these circumstances are building endurance, perseverance and they're molding you into the person that you're supposed to be. I just remind them that one moment doesn't define your whole life -- you're not defined by a failure and there's more life left to live.

So what's your sports background?

Mostly recreational. I just enjoy getting out there and doing it. I fell victim as a kid. I was the tallest kid. I'm 6-4, but I fell victim to all my coaches saying, "Put him in the post." Then all of a sudden, you're 16 and all you know is post moves, and you never worked on your handle or anything like that. So I'm a late bloomer.

Where do you play basketball now?

We did an arena tour last year and we got into these arenas and just played. We were in Dallas and got to get on the Mavericks court. In Phoenix, we got to get on the practice court and just get out there and play a little bit. Fortunately for me, none of the guys have come out there and embarrassed me.

Who was your childhood sports idol?

I was a big Ray Allen and Kerry Kittles fan. I just loved seeing the Villanova-Connecticut battle when I was a kid, just seeing that go down. And I loved Allen Iverson. Every kid loved Michael Jordan. He's an icon.

Which modern athlete do you love to hate?

That's gotta be Kobe Bryant, man. He's just a phenomenal player, but if you just want to see your team do well, here comes Kobe and your people can't hold him.

What team would make you happiest if it won a championship?

The Hawks would be the one, man. They're always so close and they do well in the season, but just something happens. I don't know what's going on in the front office or anything like that, but hopefully there will be some adjustments and some things changing.

What is your favorite sports memory as a fan or participant?

The big memory for me would probably be when I was a little-bitty kid [in elementary school in Denver], and I remember the principal told us that some pro basketball player was going to come speak at our school. They sent me to the office to go get him, and he was Dikembe Mutombo. And I just remember being scared out of my mind about how massive that dude was. I was like, "What in the world?" I got to walk him to my classroom. I was petrified. He was so big and his voice was so deep.

What is your most prized piece of sports memorabilia?

One is a Juan Pierre signed jersey and then my big one is a football that Tony Dungy signed for me. He sent it to my house with a message. He just said, "I'm really proud of you, really encouraged by all the things you're doing and how you're trying to transform these people's lives." He sent me a commemorative football, and it was signed by him.

He had some people that worked with him actually introduce him to my music, and he had a campaign trying to encourage fathers. And I had a song called, "Just Like You" that was about young boys who grow up without their fathers. Just fatherlessness. We just kind of teamed up for his All-Pro Dad campaign. Man, he's just been a great leader and somebody who I really admire, and I've been honored to serve him any way I could.

*Here’s an interesting development. It’s kind of bombshell, actually.

On Friday, a Nevada judge agreed to reopen the armed robbery and kidnapping case against actor and former football star O.J. Simpson to determine if he was so badly represented by his lawyers that he should be freed from prison and get another trial, reports the AP via the Washington Post.

Simpson wasn’t in a Las Vegas courtroom while Clark County District Court Judge Linda Marie Bell agreed to hear evidence and consider 18 of 22 questions cited in a May appeal by Simpson appeals lawyer Patricia Palm.

The judge dismissed four other grounds on which the 65-year-old Simpson seeks release from state prison, where he is serving nine to 33 years.

The development could put Simpson on the witness stand for the first time. He stood trial in 2008 after authorities said he led five men, including two with guns, in a September 2007 confrontation with two sports memorabilia dealers and a middleman in a cramped room at a Las Vegas casino-hotel.

The judge also granted a waiver of attorney-client privilege on questions in dispute between Simpson and his trial lawyer, Yale Galanter.

Glitz, glam, and religion
Hollywood may have a well-deserved reputation for being a spiritual wasteland, but faith is hardly absent from Tinseltown. The following 12 Hollywood powerhouses are at the top of their game in movies or TV and are unabashed about proclaiming their Christian beliefs. And they're far from the exception. We chose them from dozens of candidates, in consultation with insiders and observers who are part of the Christian-Hollywood scene. Those who made the Beliefnet Power Dozen are here because they have the clout to choose their career direction, while keeping their faith and even injecting it into their work in subtle or not-so-subtle ways.
Tyler Perry
Hollywood's golden boy of the moment, writer and actor Tyler Perry, seems to have a new movie or TV show coming out daily. Though well known for years among urban African Americans, Perry burst onto the Hollywood scene in 2005 with "Diary of a Mad Black Woman," which took in more than $50 million after being made on a $5.5 million budget. Since then, he's come out with the films "Madea's Family Reunion" (2006) and "Daddy's Little Girls" (2007). His second movie release of the year, "Why Did I Get Married?" arrives this month. He's also conquered the small screen, producing the sitcom "Tyler Perry's House of Payne," for which TBS reportedly gave him a whopping 100-episode commitment. Citing filmmakers who keep their faith "in the closet," Tyler told Beliefnet last year, "I'm not afraid to have a character say, 'I am a Christian,' or 'I believe in God,' because I think they represent real people on this earth."
Patricia Heaton
You know her as the harried wife and mother--and Ray Romano's comic foil--in the popular sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond," a role for which she was awarded two Emmys. Off-screen, she's not shy about making her faith or her opinions heard. Born a Catholic, she embraced evangelical Protestantism as an adult, and now attends a Presbyterian church and advocates on behalf of an anti-abortion group called Feminists for Life. Since "Raymond" ended, she has emceed a Christian comedy tour featured in the DVD "Thou Shalt Laugh," and told Beliefnet last year that she had "an opportunity to get back to reading and studying and praying more, which I didn't have much time for" while doing the show. That period of calm didn't last long, however: She returned to TV this fall, starring opposite Kelsey Grammer in the new sitcom "Back to You."
Denzel Washington
Not one to wear his faith on his sleeve, Denzel Washington surprised many by lending his voice to "The Bible Experience," an audio Bible featuring some of the country's top African-American stars. (Washington and his wife Pauletta narrate The Song of Songs.) The two-time Oscar winner is in the upper echelon of Hollywood actors, receiving a $20 million paycheck per movie. But his superstar status rises far above mere moviemaking. A 2006 Barna study found that Washington is better known and better loved than any living American religious figure. The son of a Pentecostal minister, he has reportedly donated $2.5 million to his church, the West Angeles Church of God in Christ. It was in the parking lot of that church that Washington landed the "Bible Experience" gig. Casting director Robi Reed told the L.A. Times that when she saw her fellow churchgoer and started describing the project, he interrupted her to say, "I have to do it."
Mel Gibson
Despite everything--a drunken-driving arrest, an anti-Semitic outburst, movies brimming with graphic violence--Mel Gibson still tops the list of most powerful Hollywood Christians. His "Passion of the Christ" changed everything for Hollywood when it comes to matters of faith, waking up the powers-that-be to the box office potential of the Christian audience. Since then, "making the next 'Passion'" has been Hollywood's own unique Holy Grail quest, resulting in movies successful ("The Chronicles of Narnia") and disappointing ("The Nativity Story"), and leading to the creation of FoxFaith and other religion-focused studio subsidiaries. And even after Gibson's Summer '06 PR nightmare, his "Apocalypto" went on to make a reported $50 million--and was seen by many as a Christian allegory, despite its ancient Mayan setting.
Martin Sheen
Well known for his liberal political activism, Martin Sheen is a Catholic who chose his stage name in honor of Catholic theologian Fulton J. Sheen. Though he strayed from the Church, he returned after falling seriously ill during the filming of "Apocalypse Now." Sheen, an Emmy and Golden Globe winner, has often been quoted linking his faith and his activism. "You know, the essence of the Gospel of Jesus was extremely radical, and that's why they killed Him," he told one interviewer. To another he said, "It doesn't really matter how much of the rules or the dogma we accepted and lived by if we're not really living by the fundamental creed of the Catholic Church, which is service to others and finding God in ourselves and then seeing God in everyone--including our enemies." Most recently, he played President Josiah Bartlett on "The West Wing" as a liberal Catholic who was often known to debate theological issues and quote the Bible. Since his TV presidential administration ended, he's appeared in the Oscar-winning "The Departed" and made news protesting the Iraq war with Cindy Sheehan.
Ralph Winter
Best known as the producer of such blockbusters as the "X-Men" trilogy, "The Planet of the Apes," and "The Fantastic Four," Ralph Winter has also produced such Christian fare as "Left Behind," "Thr3e," and "The Visitation" and works regularly for FoxFaith. He is also a frequent speaker at Christian conferences and prayer breakfasts. Of his unofficial but unrelenting role as a liaison between Hollywood and the Christian community, Winter told Beliefnet prior to the final "X-Men" release, "I have been placed in this job for a purpose, and I am just trying to make great movies and keep my eyes on Him. I don't deserve any praise....It is definitely all God's hand that I get to do this. And who knows how long this will last? He may choose someone else." Having brought in a reported career total (so far) of $1.6 billion, here's betting that Hollywood's decision-makers will stick with Winter.

Tyler Perry is a filmmaking machine, popping out movie after movie; year after year.
Forbes named him one of entertainment's highest paid men, grossing more than $130 million.
His success, however, isn't without its shortfalls, haters, and criticisms.
In the November issue of Essence, the Atlanta based Madea creator explained his Kim Kardashian casting choice for "The Marriage Counselor."
"My hand to God, I didn't know who she was," he said.
Hard to believe it, but what can you say.
Anyway, Kardashian was recommended by his producer because her because of her huge following.
Regardless of the negativity, Kim did an exceptional job in the movie, Tyler says. Besides, the gig was a positive point for her image.

Unhappy A-Rod.jpg
New York slugger Alex Rodriguez questioned the logic of leaving him out of the lineup for Wednesday's do-or-die playoff game against the Detroit Tigers that was eventually rained out.

Rodriguez and fellow slumping home run hitter Curtis Granderson were the regulars removed from the batting order in manager Joe Girardi's latest attempt to shuffle a lineup that has struggled mightily to score runs.
"I'm not doing somersaults, I'm not happy about it," Rodriguez told reporters on Detroit's Comerica Park field during warm-ups before the game was called off and rescheduled for Thursday. "I feel I could help the team win.
"The bottom line is anytime I'm in any lineup I think that lineup is better and has a better chance to win. I don't care if it's an All-Star game. I think I can bring an impact. I think at any point I'm ready to break though.
"Anytime I'm in the box, the game can change and everyone knows it."
Trailing 3-0 in the best-of-seven series, the Yankees need to win Game Four, rescheduled for Thursday, to stay alive in the American League Championship.
"This is not something that is easy to do," Yankees manager Joe Girardi told reporters before the game.
"I think as a manager and as a team, at this time you have got to think about today, and you think about today only."
The Yankees posted the best record of any team in the American League during the regular season but their power-hitting lineup has struggled to score runs during the playoffs, prompting Girardi's reshuffle.
Rodriguez, Major League Baseball's highest-paid player with earnings this season of $29 million, stands fifth on the all-time home run list with 647 but has looked lost since returning after breaking his hand.
"He has struggled against right-handers all season," said Yankees general manager Brian Cashman.
"It's obviously gotten worse here in the postseason with the strikeouts, so we're just making an adjustment and hoping it gives us a better shot."
Rodriguez, who has been pinch-hit for and benched previously in the playoffs, has gone 3-for-23 in the postseason and was to be replaced at third base by Eric Chavez, who has gone 0-for-14.
"Alex is going to wait for (his) opportunity. Right now it looks like in theory we'll do that against left handed pitching," Cashman said.
The Tigers were set to start hard-throwing righthander Max Scherzer against New York's CC Sabathia.
"That doesn't mean that he's done, that he's finished, that he is not capable. He is still a big threat, but for whatever reason right now we are adjusting to what we are seeing."
Granderson, who was second in the league with 43 home runs, has gone 3-for-29 in the postseason. The center-fielder was to be replaced by Brett Gardner, who went down with an elbow injury in April and was hitless in his return to the lineup on Tuesday.

billy-graham[1] (Small).jpg
Influential Christian leaders are increasingly speaking up and telling Christians to vote in the presidential election next month.

John Piper and Billy Graham are the latest figures to encourage believers not to sit this election out and to vote biblical values.
"The legacy we leave behind for our children, grandchildren and this great nation is crucial. As I approach my 94th birthday, I realize this election could be my last," said evangelist Billy Graham in an emailed message Thursday. "I believe it is vitally important that we cast our ballots for candidates who base their decisions on biblical principles and support the nation of Israel."
Like many Christian pastors, Graham urged voters to choose a candidate who will protect the sanctity of life and the biblical definition of marriage.
"Vote for biblical values this November 6, and pray with me that America will remain one nation under God," the retired evangelist, who met with GOP candidate Mitt Romney last week, said. Graham met with President Obama in 2010.
Also rallying voters is Piper, pastor for Preaching & Vision at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis.

Increased persecution, the election of a Muslim Brotherhood president, the death of the Coptic Orthodox Church pope and thousands fleeing their homeland in fear of an uncertain future.

Followers of Jesus in Egypt have faced major challenges on their journey of faith in 2012. And Egypt is ranked No. 15 on the Open Doors World Watch List of 50 countries which are the worst persecutors of Christians. But there have been rays of the light of Jesus breaking through the gloom.
Earlier this month about 10,000 Christian young people came from all across Egypt for three days to worship the Lord and to seek God's blessing for their country. The worshippers, mostly ranging from ages 13 to 30, gathered from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. each evening. Many traveled hundreds of miles to the worship site in the middle of the desert north of Cairo.
"To sit among over 10,000 young people, worship with them in a roaring holy noise, listen to powerful and challenging messages and pray for God's powerful presence in our lives; really, it is hard to describe in words," says a Christian leader. "Sitting at the very back of the small soccer stadium gave me a good view of the scene. Thousands were sitting to my right, thousands to my left and thousands more in the middle. Hardly any empty gaps!
"The wonderful fact is that these young people came from all over Egypt. About 3,000 of them came all the way from many cities located in southern Egypt. They were accommodated in conference facilities available nearby. As for the remaining 7,000, they had to come all the way, every day, riding in the morning from Cairo and Alexandria in about 130 big buses, and then ride back home every evening for the night."

Deadline.com is reporting that a new deal is being worked out for author James Patterson's crime novel "Double Cross" to turn into a second movie starring Tyler Perry as the famous Washington DC crimefighter/psychologist.

Perry's first turn in "Alex Cross" opens this Friday, marking the filmmaker's first lead role that he didn't produce or direct or write - and his reviews so far, according to Deadline, have been rather positive, although the critics have been harsh on director Rob Cohen and the film as a whole.

Fireflies (Feat. V. Woods) [Prod. Mark Rajcoomar] by MarkRajcoomar

Ayindé -- Fireflies

A musician is more than just an individual with an aficionado for making and selling music. He is an observer. He is proactive. He is a commander of his craft, a virtuoso. He is a soloist and a band, all at once. An artist is his producer, his colleagues, and his enemies. He is his success and his failure. He is resilient and driven. He is zealous without even realizing it. Long Island native Joseph Ayindé Hye still hasn’t caught on yet…

Ayindé was first introduced to music as a child in the church. By age 10 he was actively participating in the music program and it was there that he learned to not fear an audience and to command the energy that music emits in people—two skills that would later prove to be vital to his success and his survival as an artist.

Now preparing his second official mixtape “Circumspect” Ayindé is releasing the first official single entitled “Fireflies” produced by Mark Rajcoomar, a song for anybody with a dream and a light.

Follow Ayindé on twitter (@josephayinde).
