Best of the week's blogs
HOUSTON -- How best to explain what happened in Houston Sunday night? In the span of 10 innings played over five hours under the roof at Minute Maid Park, the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers crammed a week's worth of drama into a Game 5 that stretched the bounds of credulity.
Villains morphed into heroes. Heroes turned into goats and then became heroes again. Baseball's best pitcher looked mortal, its best hitter utterly infallible. Two mini-controversies that disrupted the Series converged in one swing of the bat.
And the home runs? Did we mention the home runs? There were seven of them, for the record, including two game-tying three-run shots in back-to-back innings by Yuli Gurriel and Jose Altuve. Read More Here
The Texans had indicated there would be some type of protest following the comments by owner Bob McNair.
McNair issued two apologies attempting to explain his comments after a story in ESPN The Magazine revealed that he said “we can’t have the inmates running the prison” during a meeting of NFL owners about players protests.
The entire team took the field about 10 minutes before kickoff. When the anthem started the majority of the active roster (approximately 43 players) took a knee.
The Cowboys' Jerry Jones was a leading voice among 17 NFL owners on a conference call Thursday that discussed the possibility of halting commissioner Roger Goodell's pending contract extension, sources involved with the call told ESPN.
There is a growing difference of opinion among owners about Goodell's overall performance as commissioner, according to sources. The owners on Thursday's conference call are generally unhappy with Goodell and the NFL's front office for a variety of reasons, including the player protests staged during the national anthem, issues regarding the relocation of teams to Los Angeles and the league's handling of the Ray Rice domestic violence case, according to sources.

As more information becomes available about the food athletes are putting in their bodies, a lifestyle trend appears to be taking the NBA by storm: veganism.
That’s right, players are throwing out the beef and picking up the beets, putting down the chicken and picking up the chickpeas. According to most of them, the change in diet has both helped them cut weight and increased their energy levels.
Someone who identifies as vegan does not eat animals or animal products. That includes all meat, poultry, fish, seafood and dairy products. This is different from vegetarians, who also don’t eat meat or fish, but will animal products.
Here’s a running list of NBA players who have made the transition to vegan or vegetarian diets:
Kyrie Irving
After forcing a trade out of Cleveland, Irving adopted a vegan diet and said his energy is up and his body feels amazing. Read More Here

THINGS we found along the way
Former President Barack Obama reportedly plans to show up for jury duty next month after being called to serve in Cook County, Illinois.
“He made it crystal clear to me through his representative that he would carry out his public duty as a citizen and resident of this community,” Tim Evans, chief judge of the Cook County Circuit Court, told the Chicago Tribune on Friday.
Obama is registered to vote in Illinois because he owns a property in Chicago. His family also owns an $8.1 million home in Washington, D.C., where they currently reside.
“Obviously we will make certain that he has all the accoutrements that accompany a former president,” Evans said. “His safety will be uppermost in our minds.”
