In Matthew Chapter 6:5-6, Yeshua Is not concerned about whether we pray. This is more about the how. There is a right way and a wrong way to pray. I bet you didn’t even know what huh. You can pray with the wrong motives and you can have your prayers not heard by God.

The Wrong  Motive Is Praying To Be Heard By Men.

When you pray, you are praying for Yahweh to hear you, this isn't for anyone else but him. Of Course, he knows what you need before you ask ( 2 Chr. 16:9,  Is. 65:24 )

In Matthew Chapter 6:5-6  Yeshua is speaking to people who love to pray. We need to understand loving to pray is not a sign that a person has a relationship with God. Yes, A person that really loves Yah prays often. It’s like a child and his father. When you love your father, you always want to talk to him. But what Christ is saying is the man who prays to be seen by men and trying to impress people with words may love to pray but is actually A hypocrite. Why? Because it’s about a show. It’s not about a relationship with the father. When he or she loves to pray in public it really isn't because of the love of prayer but recognition. And He will receive his reward,  public recognition.

The Right Motive Is Praying To Be Heard By Yahweh.

  1. You have to have a genuine willingness to pray. It has to be real and has to come from deep within your heart
  2. It’s important that you have a private place to pray. You need alone time with Yah. Personal time where it’s just you and him. No distractions.
  3. It is important that you have a relationship with him.

The Rules of Prayer

Rule # 1. Do not use empty repetition (6:7)

The wrong motive is praying to impress other people

Yahshua teaches that we should not use thoughtless & meaningless repetition. Saying the same thing over and over adds length and depth to your prayer Using words to sound important. And you might even be using words you don't know the meaning to. There are many things that can lead to meaningless repetition.

1. Prayers that are mesmerized: An example of this is the classic “Lord's Prayer”. Now there's nothing praying a memorized prayer as long as it is coming from the heart with thought behind it. My mom taught my brother and I The Lord's Prayer and  A simple blessing for our food when we were little. And I had been praying that same blessing over my food for years without even thinking about it. “God is good, God is great, let us thank him for our food, Amen”. I was like 12 or something when I realized I was just saying this. I knew it well and said it without any thought. When there’s no thought in it, there's no power in it

2. Written prayers: if you spent all night writing a beautiful, well-written prayer, you probably wrote that to impress the other people listening, Not Yah. There has to be less mind in it and more heart. Otherwise, the prayer is empty

3. The overuse of religious words: Saying things like “Lord God I thank Thee” does not impress Yah. Again, that is just to impress people. Yah just wants you to come from the heart. You don’t have to sound like super pastor.

4. Over Use of references to Yahweh: There is no power in saying “Father God”, “Lord This” or “Lord That” All this shows is that a person is not giving much thought into what he or she is saying. Also, people like to call Yahweh by certain titles just to get the people listening hype. Just let go and come from the heart.

Now Yahshua is not saying it’s wrong to use repetition in prayer.  It’s wrong when the repetition is empty and vain. Christ and Daniel both used repetition, but it wasn't vain. Pray with a genuine heart,  concentrate and focus and you will be ok.

Rule # 2. Do not speak too much (6:7)

Also, keep in mind that your prayer does not have to be long.   We like to think length equals devotion. Some of us seem to think a long prayer means you are more devoted. The longer we pray, the more spiritual you are and the more Yah will listen. But Yah does not hear your prayer just because it’s long. He's more concerned with it coming from your heart. I’m not saying long prayers are forbidden. Christ prayed all night  (Luke 6:12). What is wrong is thinking you have to pray all night just to get Yah’s attention. There are times when extra prayer time is needed. Right now, while I’m writing this, we are in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. Our communities and the world need healing. This is definitely a time for extra prayer. You may be going through a very tough time or you may have a tough decision to make. That is a time you would want to put in some extra prayer time. Remember this prayer is about quality, not quantity.

Just always keep in mind, prayer is about the heart. Not about the words or the length. And you also have to remember to be quiet too. You have to give Yahweh a chance to speak!

Don’t use the same words over and over again without putting your heart in it or overuse of religious words to impress man or God or a memorized prayer.

Rule # 3. Trust Yahweh (6:8)

We already know Yahweh knows all of our needs and wants.  Ok so If God knows our needs why pray? Well, prayer is not about meeting needs. It’s about fellowship with Yah. prayer shows your dependence on Yah . Knowing Yah is real in your mind is not enough. We need time when we are in the presence of Yahweh. You need to spend time with your friends and family right? That's how the bond gets stronger and tighter. Well, Yah is the same way. We need to spend personal time with Yahweh fellowshipping and getting closer to him. So praying is about more than having your needs met. We also pray to share, fellowship and deepen our relationship with Yah.

Now I want you to notice something. Yeshua's (Jesus’ actual name) followers had been rolling with him for years. They didn't ask how to heal, how to preach or how to take a little bit of food and feed a city. They asked how to pray. That shows how important it was to them

Rule # 4. Address the Farther in Yeshua (Jesus) Name.

“For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins” (Heb. 5:1).

In the Old Testament, You see the high priest was a middle man between the Hebrews and Yahweh. He offered sacrifices for sins to Yah on behalf of men  (5:2). He was the mediator between. They could not just go to Yahweh. They had to go through the priest. Yahshua the Christ flipped it and now he fulfilled this by offering Himself as the final sacrifice. Now to get to Yahweh you must go through Yeshua. He’s our high priest and our advocate. That’s why we pray in Yeshua’s (or Jesus’) name

So To  Rap This Up...

1. Prayer is communication and open fellowship with our father Yahweh.

2. Prayer is adoration, praise to Yahweh for what he has done for us.

3. Prayer is thanksgiving, Thanking Yahweh for his grace and mercy.

4. Prayer is confession

5. Prayer is intercession, a portion on behalf of our family, friends, and neighbor.

Prayer is talking to God. It is a specific thing that we do and it should be done often. It is an opportunity to turn our hearts toward Yahweh
