Motivation and Commitment

Motivation and Commitment

by Bobby Bruno

When I was a child, I didn't want to go to school. In fact I hated it, and I barely made it through by the skin of my teeth. I even tried a semester of college because I believed that it was expected of me, but I didn't return because I was bored with what I was learning. Now I go to school because I want to, because I have found something that I am passionate about learning. I liked when the video said that we as adults are" active, interactive, and proactive" in how we apply ourselves to our studies, and how we see a future in using what we are studying. As an adult studying at O.C.U., I believe that we are not doing this by accident. I believe that God is making a committement to us that He will use everything we will study in all of our courses. As children, our committment to learning was just not there since we believed that what we were learning was a waste of time and energy. But now, we are committing ourselves to God's cause, to His teachings.

Also, we as adults are "self-motivated" because now going to school means something to us. Drudgery has been replaced by excitement and passion. Our "experience" as Christians, seeing what God has done in our lives, prepares us to teach others the lessons we've learned in ways that we never could before. I don't believe that people are too old to learn new things, especially when the subject excites them. As an adult, we are committing our time, talents, experiences, gifts, and God's teaching in our lives to reach a hurting world -- a committement that God will always honor.

Bobby Bruno was saved 15 years ago in a way that left him no doubt that Jesus wanted him to reach others with His great and abounding love. He started writing at the age of 12 and hasn't stopped since. He achieved Associates Degree in Biblical Studies from Ohio Christian University in early 2014.
