Erica Campbell, one half of the four-time Grammy Award-winning gospel duo Mary Mary, made an interesting claim about Christian hip hop this spring in an interview with CNikky.com as she explained her popular single "I Luh God." "I just wanted to have fun and declare my love for God, and, at the same time, reach an audience that I think sometimes the gospel community ignores," Campbell said. "There is Christian hip hop, but it seems like more Caucasian children gravitate to it."

Two of Christian hip-hop’s favorite public figures won at the 2015 BET Awards, which took place on June 28 in Los Angeles. Lecrae won Best Gospel Artist and Stephen Curry won Sportsman of the Year.

Lecrae is the first rapper to win in the Best Gospel Artist category. He beat out Mali Music, Erica Campbell, Deitrick Haddon, Fred Hammond, and Michelle Williams for the award.
