Hey, I am a bit of a new voice so allow me to intrude your headspace for a few moments. I’m Jacqui, your resident Christian Hip Hop guru and it is a divine pleasure to review KB’s new album His Glory Alone. This particular album is impressive. He stayed extremely high-energy, great to listen to on your way to work or while in the gym. Specifically so, the opening song Let It Reign ft/ Bizzle was a great segue to the rest of the project-extremely lyrical, very well written and perfectly executed for the task at hand- to open the project for the listener. Bizzle never seems to disappoint, he never misses. He gave great lyrical content, and as always, used his voice to worship/reverence The King- Yahweh. Doing so is always appreciated when we are given Christian artists who are switching up and requesting to be known simply as “artists” rather than “Christian artists” due to making strong attempts to become and stay relevant to those who aren’t preferably fans of Christian music.
With this socio-political climate that we are desperately attempting to navigate, the song Dark Skin ft Black Violin was necessary. KB took the issue of colorism and texturism head-on and addressed from the POV of the Christian Black man. In my honest opinion, the intricate pieces of the Black experience in America have needed to be opened and dialogued at some point by the Christian community. Though I feel it has been grazed, I don’t believe anyone has asked the questions or spoke of these issues in the same light as KB did in this particular song. We should definitely, at this stage, be walking and dripping in audacity, to be able to direct our righteous indignation as Yahweh set the example by turning those tables. KB accomplished that in Dark Skin

The Name ft Koryn Hawthorne was another favorite from this album as I enjoyed the feeling that particular track exuded. At the moment, as it played, I was lifted. Immediately, I went into worship. The song sounds like a prayer and completely embodied the title of the entire project. Koryn’s voice was intense as ever, she was the perfect voice combination for this track. I recommend this track for those heavy days, when life is too much to bear, when things don’t come together as you imagined, when you cannot speak, when you don’t know what to pray, just play this one and exalt Him. To follow this track the project ender, Si Cancion- which simply translates to “Yes Song”-is the perfect comedown from The Name, as is it beautifully sung by Bianca and Marko.
I am thoroughly impressed and fascinated with KB as an artist. I definitely give this project 5 stars and I am going to put this on replay on Spotify and enjoy the rest of my day. I hope you do the same.
Till next time,
Jacqui
