Daily Devotional: Why You Should Be Steadfast And Immovable In Your Walk With God

by Ngozi Nwoke

Have you ever felt like quitting God? Or have you ever thought of taking a break from your service unto God? This is the case with some believers. But, the truth is that it's not the Lord's will for you to draw back. And God doesn't take pleasure in those who draw back from the faith. So, this post tells why you should be steadfast and immovable in your walk with God.

Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him - Hebrews 10:38 (NKJV).

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord - I Corinthians 15:58 (NKJV).

Introduction

Challenges, persecution, and lust of the flesh are the main reasons people think of quitting Christ.  They get so overwhelmed by these that they desire a break even if it's for a short period. However, drawing back for whatever reason, even for a short time, is to break the hedge, and surely the serpent will bite. This is because, quitting God is to depart from His divine covering, and it's not a good decision. Therefore, it's important that you remain steadfast and immovable in your walk with God.

Why You Should Be Steadfast And Immovable In Your Walk With God

1. To secure God's pleasure in you

If God is for you, no man will rise against you. But, what happens when God is not for you? Surely, everything will be against you, no matter what the enemy promises you. This is because the devil's work is to kill, steal and destroy. And whatever he gives you, you will repay in multiple forms. Now, the Lord said that if anyone draws back from faith, He will not have pleasure in Him. And when God withdraws from you, His blessings and covering go with Him. Truly, no matter the negative thing that is happening to you or around you, you're better off in Christ. Surely, outside Christ, you will have crisis.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? - Romans 8:31 (NKJV).

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly - John 10:10 (NKJV).

Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him - Hebrews 10:38 (NKJV).

2. To overcome the attacks of the enemy.

When you're steadfast and immovable, no matter the challenge, you remain in Christ who is the head of all principalities. So, the devil can't reach you to afflict you. Truly, the enemy is not happy that you left his camp when you gave your life to Christ. This is because he can't oppress you the way he used to. And if you continue with God, you will not spend eternity with him in hell. So, if you ever break your hedge, he will strike immediately. This can even lead to your death so that you won't have the opportunity to repent. Therefore, abide in Christ where he can't have his way over you.

And you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power - Colossians 2:10 (NKJV).

He who digs a pit will fall into it, and whoever breaks through a wall will be bitten by a serpent - Ecclesiastes 10:8 (NKJV).

3. Your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Every labour of yours in the kingdom will surely be rewarded, for God is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. And there is a record of all our labour, for the Lord will reward us according to our work. Therefore, remain steadfast and immovable in your walk with God, because no work of yours will go unnoticed. Truly, a man may not notice your works but not the Father. His eyes run to and fro to show himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are perfect towards Him.

Also, no matter how long a challenge has afflicted you, it will surely go because the Father promises to deliver us from all afflictions.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him - Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV).

And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to everyone according to his work - Revelation 22:12 (NKJV).

For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars - 2 Chronicles 16:9 (NKJV).

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all - Psalms 34:19 (NKJV).

Conclusion

Now that you're saved, never consider going back to the world as an option. Indeed, it's not wise to go back to the things that have no power to save you from God's wrath. Rather, with your knowledge of why you should be steadfast and immovable in your walk with God, remain rooted in Christ. And this will be your stability at all times.
